Can the White Sox resign after this year? He reportedly wants 60 mil. And i hear Brandon McCarthy is nasty.

Hm...I hate the ChiSox...I hate Ozzie Guillen. Who the hell attacks one of their best pitchers because they failed to bean a guy. What an ass.
I wish soriano would go to a team that REALLY needs him.

Yea, i dont think they will either. Im saying the Rangers get in in the West. They beat the Chi Sox & Detroit takes the BoSox in the first round of the playoffs. Sorry i just felt the need to make a random playoff prediction in July.
xbrokendownx
07/24/06, 01:44 PM
the white sox have a VERY slim lead in the wild card...its 2.5 over NY, 3 over the twins, and 4.5 over toronto
its not like 9 like it was a few weeks ago. they arent even a lock for the playoffs, let alone to repaet as WS champs

detroit would play the team with the worst record, so you are assuming the rangers post a better record than the red sox?

I was actually under the impression the team with the best record played the wildcard team unless it was in the same division. if im wrong maybe it thought that because the team that has the wild card usually has the worst record.
In that case obviously the Rangers would play Detroit.

ok even if the best record did play the wild card team, why would the red sox be the wild card team if you have both detroit and chicago in the playoffs?

Unless Soriano's hiding a great fastball/slider combination he's not helping a team by adding more offense and weakening their already mediocre pitching. Basically, right now I look at them as the AL Central's version of the Texas Rangers. with bigger names in the pitching rotation, yet they're still a mediocre staff.
great move sox  .
Oh, and whoever is complaining because ozzie chewed out garland for not hitting the guy should just shut up. it was made clear that if Padilla hit someone ozzie expected Garland to retaliate. You hit him, get warned, then it's done with for the day and you move on.
but then again, Garland can't hit anything but opponents bats, so i don't know what Ozzie was thinking.

exactly. that guy is an idiot. He's just upset because he's an astros fan and they got their asses kicked last year. It's funny how biased everyone is in this thread. the guy from texas thinks the RANGERS (?!?!) are going to win the AL west, the guy from NY thinks the yanks are gonna win the wildcard. I think it's funny that everyone thinks the white sox, of all teams can't bounce back. doesn't anyone remember last year when we almost blew the lead andf won 15 of 16 in the playoffs? The offense is amazing, overall the starting pitching is good, the closer is awesome. It's just the bullpen that we need help with. I don't think we're going to catch the tigers unless they have some sort of crazy meltdown though...

sorry bud, but your rotation isn't good. too many inflated numbers that are only being hid because your offense is the best in the league. You'll slug your way to wins and probably make the playoffs, but come playoff time, you're not getting your multiple complete games like last year. not to mention, no you're replacing mccarthy basically with MacDougal? c'mon now.

even though he could play LF for the white sox i don't like the trade. they beef up their hitting, which they didn't need, and weaken their bullpen, where they needed to add people. not to mention, mccarthy was supposed to be in the rotation next year. and i don't see soriano signing anywhere where he can't play 2B everyday.

I'm amazed at Soriano's play at RFK. Remeber all that drama about moving to left? Doesn't seem to have affected him at all. I kinda want to see him stay in Washington. That city fucking loves baseball and haven't had shit going for them in awhile. But I'll think he'll bolt in the off season to the highest bidder that will let him play 2nd.

If that would happen, the Sox defense would be absolutely atrocious in the OF. Pods has no arm and Alf is still learning the OF.

yeah, plus the only source I've seen this from is Tim Kurkijan and ESPN. This deal will be shot down by the end of the day.
i think he goes to anaheim. they have more prospects to give than anyone in the running.
I agree with this. They desperately need a bat and they can overpay to get it. With the AL West being the way it is, this is the kind of deal that puts Anaheim over the top and makes them the undeniable favorite to come out of that division. He'll wind up an Angel.

The more I think about this trade the worse it gets. The White Sox have no need at all for Soriano. Why would they need another bat? They need pitching and McCarthy is gonna be good, and Soriano is as good as gone at the end of the year

exactly. even if they end up trading him for less than what he's worth, they have to do it.
he won't be back next year and he's not getting them anywhere this year. get what you can out of him and move on. if they don't unload him, they should move the team back to montreal as a punishment.

Yankees have a better team, yes, but the red hot Twins are right on their heels. Sure they can probably catch the White Sox because they are struggling, but i think between Min & Chi (if they get back on track) its gonna be too much for the yanks. both teams have a good shot at the playoffs, wether u want to think that or not. stros are 5 back right now, they play the wild card leader reds tonight.

Well lets see, A-Rod is gonna have a nervous breakdown if everyone keeps booing him when he dosent reach base when he goes 3-4 on the night. The pitching is terribly inconsistant. While Joe Mauer keeps getting better and better, Liriano & Santana continue to be lights out, and the team as a whole is just clicking. im glad you KNOW they wont keep their hot streak up and inevitably the yankees will come through this all and make the playoffs.

They probably have better team chemistry than the Yanks do, that can go along way. look at detroit. did anybody think they were gonna keep this up? they keep getting better and better. Of course the yanks have a better chance if they are 1.5 games out and the stros are 5 games out, then yes you would be stupid to say they dont. See, I see it the other way. I think it was Chicago's way of driving up the price for Detroit. If the Tigers get Soriano in the middle of their order, that team will be unstoppable.
About those assists....Manny led the league in assists a year ago and he has the reputation/actually is, a poor fielder. Soriano stunk the house at second and he is stinking it out in left. However, left field is a less demanding defensive position than second. Bowden was smart to move him.

he'd have to be playing LF here. we'd probably give up monroe and a prospect or two. humberto sanchez is who i think we'd give up but i'm not sure.
