It’s very rare these days to find an album that does true justice to it’s artwork. I’ve been a big Ike Reilly fan for years and I just picked up a copy of his latest release Hard Luck Stories and WOW what a package! 16 pages of hand drawn graphics and pictures mixed into small CD case. Really just icing on the cake of a GREAT album ☺

It's cool but I ultimately buy the CD for the music, rather have quality songs than good artwork.

Yeah the music is what's important, but I appreciate artists who take the time to incorporate cool artwork into their album.

Agreed :P
It's fun to see how the artwork relates to the music sometimes too though :) Like when some of the songs have stories and the pictures that relate to the songs are in the album artwork... :D

exactly! That's why this art is the cherry on top :) It came out digitally first and then released this insane package to go along with it and that just really makes the songs pop even more when the art can supplement it

every mewithoutYou album is gorgeous.
As much hate as I might get, I thought the newest TDG album was actually really good.

This may sound bad...but sometimes if I come across a band that I'm unfamiliar with, but the album has awesome cover art, I'll buy it. And usually, I'm not let down. I guess it's a superpower or something. haha

Exactly. I bought On Letting Go JUST because I thought it looked cool and the music was pretty damn cool too. The new album's cover is just... silly looking? It's something I would expect to see one of my coked-out art friends from high school draw.
Besides that I feel that CDs are too small to show off a good piece of artwork. I started buying vinyl not just because the music sounded great, but because I could really open up and see the artwork at a decent size. Some of my recent favorites are Copeland's Beneath Medicine Tree and Thrice's Beggars. I really enjoyed those a lot more after getting to see the album art and inserts full size. I'm like that with manga, too- I like reading stuff in Shonen Jump more because with the tankoban it's harder to lay it out and enjoy the artwork. :)

Did you do that with that gem of an avatar you have? And is that the kind of thing you are picking out? Cause I could probably do the same thing if I liked scene-core music.

I did that with Radiohead's In Rainbows. Definitely was not disappointed. Haha.

i do this alll the time! haha and likewise, an album with bad artwork makes me doubt the material on the album as well.
