can someone please post the set-list from the upcoming tour?

I saw them spring of last year, they played:

Summer Wind
1.15.96
Unopened Letter to the World
The Hero Dies in This One
So Long Atoria
Diary
Boys of Summer
Your Boyfriend Sucks
San Dimas

Real short set, hopefully they play longer this tour but it probably won't be too different.

kman

Yeah, I saw them two springs ago, and they played almost that same set headlining, it was so disappointing. They have a decent amount of material, and they are headlining, I really wanted to see them play for at least an hour, including their break/encore.

from what I've read on the bands facebook, they swapped out songs from that set and replaced them with older fan favorites. I also know they learned a couple from welcome the night too. i'm sure people will post what they are playing as the tour goes on a bit

Why would they swap out songs. They're headlining and have so much material. An 8 song set just isn't enough.

because besides Kris Roe it's an entirely new band. last year they did 14 songs at our show and spent 5 minutes deciding on one last song to do because they had literally done all the songs they knew. fast forward to a year later and they have a new guitar player from last year as well. so now you've got 2 guys who know a relatively small amount of the songs plus one guy who probably had even less experience with those songs.

So, they practice and learn like 14 songs to do for the set? You do realize this is The Ataris, right? It's not like it's a complicated band to learn songs of. It takes a minute to figure out pretty much all of their songs...

tonyregret
02/22/10, 01:06 PM
judging from the live videos floating around the past year, as well as the new posts made by the band, I'd say the ataris have about 20 songs they are capable of playing live

you do realize that i'm not in the band and don't know the expertise of these individuals and how long it would take them to learn these songs? and that the one song they added at the end took them a while to remember including the guy who wrote the song.

and yes, they said practiced enough songs to get them through a tour. they were also busy writing and recording music for the new record at the time as well.

teenage riot is one of their first original pop punk songs...a staple in their repetoir. I mean to say that the song teenage riot SUCKS but the rest of their catalogue is exceptional...that just doesn't add up to me.

Just wanted to throw this out there. Kris posted on their facebook that he recorded all the guitar and bass parts on the new record, and Bob Hoag (pollen) played all the drums on the album. So it's not like the new guys in the Ataris know the songs, Kris has to bring them to them and teach them, much like any older songs he wants to do.

Teenage Riot is still lame, there's songs off Anywhere But Here i'd rather hear and that album is even more generic.

03/02/10, 05:27 PM
I get that Kris has to teach the new guys the songs and time apparently is an issue, but if he is going to take the time to teach them new songs, why doesn't he use that time and teach them some songs that aren't the same ones Kris and the other guys played last year and the year before on tour. Don't get me wrong, their popular songs aren't going anywhere, like their cover of boys of summer, in this diary, and San Dimas...., but varying the rest of the songs a bit would be good. They have a lot of good songs that are relatively easy to play.

love that set-list, actually. haven't seen an ataris show in over 5 years so it's fine by me. i'm surprised at how small of venues they are playing at. if anyone else goes to any shows please post what you can remember of the set-lists. thank you.

Ataris pulled out IOU One Galaxy and Broken Promise Ring tonight.... so good. Going again tomorrow in Fall River, and Kris said they'd definitely mix up the set list between the two days in MA. Nothing else really stood out as different from their usual.... they said they're not going to do IOU much at all this tour tho

A notable difference from the Worcester show is that instead of Boys Of Summer, they pulled a Misfits cover (Skulls). Also they played IOU again.... VERY surprised, but Kris said they felt comfortable enough that it felt right. Also, Kris said after the show that this show reminded him why he still plays music.... I haven't seen him this happy in like 6 years

very small turnouts from what i hear (i guess the MA dates have been the biggest on the tour, and both were like 200-300 kids I'd say?), and for the first show i went to, the crowd was entirely still the whole time and just sang along, didnt really get into it with energy at all. second show was just wild.... singing along, moshing, kid jumping off the speakers. kris roe was so stoked on that show. if you want to show the ataris some love, give them a little bit of energy!

it's a 7", not sure if there's going to be a CD version. I got confirmation from Vinnie a few weeks ago, he was being secretive about it and just mentioned that he was releasing some stuff from "friends" in the future. Since Kris is talking about it now I guess it's ok for me to mention it lol

Me and a buddy are going to check them out tonight at The Ottobar in Baltimore. I saw Kris play his acoustic set of Blue Skies a couple years ago and haven't watched The Ataris since they toured with Bigwig eons ago.
