As the global economy teeters on the brink of disaster, a young Wall Street trader partners with disgraced former Wall Street corporate raider Gordon Gekko on a two-tiered mission: To alert the financial community to the coming doom, and to find out who was responsible for the death of the young trader's mentor.

I'm not sure how many feel about the original, personally it's one of my favorite Oliver Stone films, but this looks like it has potential. Thoughts?

It can't be bad, there has to be a good reason why Stone chose to do this as his first sequel film (I think there's a lot more going on story-wise than what we're being told, why else hasn't anyone heard about Charlie and Martin Sheen's appearances?)

Because it fits in perfectly with the current economic crisis and Stone hopes to pull in more viewers because of it. If Obama had been assassinated last year we'd be seeing JFK 2: Night of the Living Jack.

Come on now, it's not like the film came out of nowhere haha. I know it's been talked about for years, I'd call it a coincidence. The only people who are going to rush out to theaters to see it are the ones who know the original and know what they're getting into. I don't think Stone picked the time to do it based on current crisis, he knows he's not going to win over new fans with this. Just like the original, this film takes place 2 years ago from present day

Really? He has the ability to act frantic and high strung, Thats how Charlie did it back in the day. Well, for the most part. I have a feeling this is going to be along the lines of Boiler Room, underrated movie IMO.

Boondock Saints and Wall Street are not on the same level in any way, shape or form. Comparing their sequels wouldnt prove anything to anyone.

The only movie I've ever liked Shia in was A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints, and he hasn't done anything as half as good as that.

He wasn't bad in Eagle Eye...Although, i would have liked to see someone like Ryan Gosling or Joe Gordon-Levitt in this movie instead of Shia.

relax

This movie is going to be bad, it was a film that wasn't set up for a sequel, it's only being released because of the current economic climate, etc etc.

Have you seen the ending to the first one? All we know is that Bud comes out of court presumably testifying against Gordon. Then the movie ends!!! Thats not so much a "cliffhanger", but it certainly doesnt leave the viewer with a sense of closure as to what happened.

Shia Labeouf is a good fucking actor who needs to make better choices. See Bobby for all the evidence you need.

I watched the first one in economics senior year of high school. I enjoyed it, but this one looks super lame. BUT I will admit, the trailer where the correctional guard is giving Gekko back his stuff and he goes "one mobile phone" and puts down the big old school cellular, was pretty sweet.

I agree with this 100%. Bobby was a really good flick, Shia needs to drop the sidekick roles (I Robot, Indiana Jones, Constantine) and cheesy lead roles as well (Eagle Eye, Transformers) and just focus on a powerhouse performance. I'm not saying this film's going to earn him a bunch of nominations, but it'll be a chance for people to see what else he has to offer.

I saw Oliver Stone last summer on Real Time with Bill Maher and he said he got obsessed with reading about the recent market crash and felt compelled to do a sequel .

Style over substance, as per most Oliver Stone films, and ran about a half hour too long, but I enjoyed it. The second act dragged like a motherfucker but the third was pretty exciting.

And great acting by everyone, of course. Carey Mulligan is so beautiful.

Unnecessary, clumsy references to the original. Some really awful expository dialogue and I don't think Shia LeBeouf is a good actor. Sorry. The movie was entertaining at times but Stone is so desperate to make a point, it gets insulting. Just show us, we don't need the lecture. Most of the things that made the first film good aren't here.

Edit: And since I'm sure its coming, to be fair, I haven't seen Bobby. So if thats the film that will change my mind about Even Stevens, then I'll check it out.
