I don't get what a mixtape is?

Sorry, I don't know much about rap considering it's not a genre I'm usually fond of (Fishscale has me interested in hearing more albums from this year though, that album is amazing).

a mixtape is an album an artist puts out on their own. its not put out in retail stores, which means you either have to get it off the internet (mixunit.com) or know where you can get mixtapes in your city.

mixtapes dont have to go through the bullshit of clearing samples or anything cuz they arent sold commercially... so theres usually a lot of freestyles/remixes over other peoples beats.

I think Clipse are pretty good, but I can't think that they will come anywhere near Ghostface or The Cuban Linx 2 or new GZA or Roots.

When Clipse comes out it's gonna be nuts. For now Fishscale is my favorite this year. The Vatican Mixtape is awesome too, I just heard it like last week.

basically, besides Army of the Pharaohs, '06 has been a down year... nothing spectacular... '05 was probably the best year in awhile for the hip hop scene, with Tonedeff and Cage making it a memorable year... hopefully, this fall will bring some sick discs that'll lift the scene... until then, its same old same old...

Well in their defense, they never claim to be gangsta rap and they do have some creative wordplay, but i would be inclined to agree with you that this new cd will be a big college kid sensation like fucking DMB.

Coldplay is a good band. I really like X&Y.

Limp Bizkit did a decent song with Method Man, but they still suck.

Inspectah Deck - The Resident Patient
Ghostface Killah - Fishscale
Masta Killa - Made in Brooklyn

Those are my top 3, when Method Man's comes out I'm sure it'll be at the top.

Lupe Fiasco's album was kinda nice
Ghostface stayed consistant with the great releases

Hip hop is realy a dying breed, to much shit out there, no one is doing anything new anymore
