So I'm one of those guys that has a BA handbook and memorizes every player in it. Does anyone else follow minors/college guys here? Who do you think is on the verge of breaking out or is underrated?

Tyson Gillies is one of those guys I just have a feeling is going to be a stud leadoff hitter, A good 290/380/420 hitter with plus plus defense in CF and 50+ SB.

Adrian Salcedo of the Twins I could see becoming a top 20 pitching prospect this year. Great stuff, amazingly projectable frame, and only three walks in 61 innings? Count me in.

I took my son to his first Texas ballgame on Sat. 13 months old and he made it through 5 without getting pissy, pretty fucking good. Too bad we dropped 2/3 vs. NM. We were fucking awful this weekend; hopefully we turn it around vs. Stanford.

I go to Seton Hall and I'm their official scorer for baseball, so I see pretty much every home game. College baseball is so great. I also worked grounds crew for the Staten Island Yankees (NY Yankees A-League affiliate) which was an incredible experience.

Gillies will likely be the Phillies starting left fielder in a couple years before moving to center, but the Phillies have a plethora of outfield prospects, so we'll see who is their future starting centerfielder, Gillies or Gose.

I'm a Reds fanatic so I follow our minor league system closely. Looking forward to see what happens with Aroldis Chapman. I'm hoping he starts out in AA or AAA but I have a bad feeling that he may end up the Reds fifth starter because we need one more starter pretty bad. Not sure I like that idea yet though.

Every summer I make it out to the nearby cities and see a game. Last year I saw the Dayton Dragons, Louisville Bats, Indianapolis Indians and Toledo Mud Hens all at each of their ballparks.

I basically study players on baseball-reference.com. I haven't checked out the encyclopedia yet, but that's a good idea.

I adjust college offensive statistics to neutralize them as much as I can for park and strength of schedule.

I'm still skeptical of Gose. Even so, I think Gillies will be the more valuable player, although Gose may have more trade value.

I've heard good things about Mather, but it seems like he's been put as a AAAA so far.

Is that high A or low A? I haven't memorized most teams. Did you see Banuelos play?

Yes, everything the Phillies got for Cliff Lee is worse than Jason Knapp, the main guy we traded for Cliff Lee. Excited to see Brown at 15 though.

Gillies is underrated. As I've said. Now, Knapp could be a TOR starter or a dominating closer. However, the chances of that are a lot less of him reaching that ceiling than Gillies is being a great leadoff man/++ CF defense. Knapp has more upside, but Gillies is safer. Aumont could break out this year since the Phillies are going to start him.

Knapp was traded to Cleveland. I didn't even talk about the guys we traded for Halladay...

Those guys...

Drabek (25)
Taylor (27)
D'Arnaud (81)

Aumont is the only top 100 guy we got back from Seattle and he is ranked (93). Such a terrible trade.

Gillies needs to prove something outside of a offensive minor league before he sees a proper rating.

Drabek is a stud. I'm actually much higher on him than 25. He's top 20 for me. Taylor too. D'Arnaud is also a great prospect. However, Gillies has proven something. Even park and luck adjusted his stats are still great. I see him with .290/.380/.420 with 50+ steals and amazing center field D. Now, that's a peak projection, and he could easily not get there. However, I think he's easily a top 75 prospect. Rankings aren't everything though. I'm not saying I agree with the trade (I don't, you traded one ace for another, barely a difference in value).

Well not necessarily. I don't mind moving Lee for a good package. What we got was shit. What Cleveland got for Lee, was shit. However, at the time, Cleveland got 4 of our top 6 prospects, who were rated highly last year, and we got the 93rd best prospect for Lee, a guy who will likely be in relief, another guy who will likely be in relief if he ever makes the team, and gillies. An outfielder...the one position we are filled with in terms of prospects.

Halladay for 4 years > Lee for one...or even Lee for six, which is the type of deal he's looking for. Money was never an issue between he and Philly. It was the years and the Phillies never offer anyone more than 3 years unless their name is Chase Utley.

Nobody knows what organizational thoughts are. They may value those guys very highly. It just makes me think about those rumored deals for Halladay, especially the one from the Sox.

....everyone on the planet will tell you what the Phillies offered for Lee/Francisco and the Mariners offered for Lee were shit. The initial reason to even trade with Seattle, not even to mention the Phillies chose Gillies over Saunders (30th rated) prospect. According to everything that has something to do with the Phillies, they said Gillies was the centerpiece. makes no sense.

I think you're too high on Gillies. I think he profiles closest to a 4th outfielder.

I don't want to sound rude, but I also question is hearing issues out there. I mean if he's playing center it shouldn't matter much because he can call everyone off, but if he set to play the corner outfield position, it could be a problem. I mean he seems like a guy you definitely want to root for, but like you said, he is probably a future 4th outfielder, especially when he was rated as the 3rd best outfield prospect in Seattle.

Was proud that my school (Salisbury University) was able to make it to the regional tournament this year considering we lost a lot of senior position players. We're going to be losing some of our best pitchers going into next year, though which will be a real bummer. I usually cover their games for the college's newspaper and really enjoy going to the games. I also was planning to start a blog for their conference (CAC) but that didn't quite take off.
