Don't overdo it in the first few workouts. If your body isn't used to it, you have to build yourself up to a better stamina level. Keep yourself hydrated... eat right, so you don't just undo all of the work... all that stuff.

make sure you include a sufficient amount of time focused on weight training, cuz it's a hell of a lot better for your body than just cardio

Make sure to always do a soft warm up for 10 minutes and stretch for ten. If you're going to do weights, don't push yourself too much, same with push ups and sit ups. Basically, yeah, don't overdo it when you're just starting out, build up what you can do over a few months.

Why don't you just give tips here that everyone can see instead of only the people who make the threads?

Running is really good for your heart. Try doing some of that.

Well that presents a problem for me because I don't have a membership to a gym and don't own any weights. So for right now I've started a run-walk type thing for about half an hour and then hope to build incrimentally. I was planning to do crunches and push ups but I did the run first and I felt like throwing up after that.
I hate not having a gym membership at home. At school its free and I miss that.

I've started to work out again too.
I love the fact that we have a Cross Bow at my house so I don't have to go to the gym. :D

you can improvise with weights: paint cans, bricks, etc. the easiest thing to do, though, would be to buy a set of those rubber band type resistance deals, as it's the same principle as weight training.
while you're out running, take a quick break and do some tricep dips on a bench.

lift just under your limit.
and do it every other day.
doing too much can cause you to lose muscle.

Noted. How exactly does one go about doing a tricep dip?

Well my school is half an hour away from me and I don't feel like driving all that way just to work out, plus I have no idea what the hell to do on most of the machines so I figured I'd just start jogging and push ups and stuff like that. I think I'd also like to do some swimming.

Don't worry about how much other people are lifting. Just do what's right for you and for your own body. You might feel like a pussy, but make sure you go slow and gradually increase the weights instead of starting with stuff you can't handle.

Jumping rope is a great cardio workout, and it'll tone some leg muscles up for you.
If you go back to school, use the erg (or to the non crewers of this board, the rowing machine). It's said to be one of the best cardio workouts you can do. Also, go to a pool and try swimming, again a great cardio workout.

diet+cardio=weight loss
that's actually been proven false
though cardio is important for warm up, weight training is far more conducive to increasing your metabolism when you are at rest, which is what you want if you want to burn fat efficiently
simply, muscle burns fat
and, of course, you need a healthy diet

a six pack is difficult if you don't have the genes for it

He's right. It's true, for every pound of muscle, you burn another 100 calories.
