you might say, "how could this be?" or "that's blasphemy!"

but it's actually quite simple. you see, i grew up a michigan fan as my family was from detroit. i was watching/loving michigan football before the big ten had 11 schools. the thing that penn state people don't understand is THERE IS NO RIVALRY WITH MICHIGAN! at least not on the michigan side. penn state people are pissed and desperate to have a rivalry, rich with tradition, but it's not there. sure, pitt, miami, and notre dame might be contenders, but those aren't regulars in their schedule. the ND rivalry might heat up a little now that they're back on the schedule, but still will be far from a michigan/osu or usc/nd rivalry.

the bottom line is that michigan is at the neck of michigan state, ohio state, and notre dame. sorry to burst your bubble happy valley folks, but penn state is no different to michigan than iowa or wisconsin. the *ONLY* reason why there could be considered heightened friction between mich/psu is that they are both storied programs, rich with tradition. and schools like ND, OSU, and michigan are either loved or hated. christ, the schools have only played like 11 times? how the hell can that be a huge rivalry?

so go ahead psu, get on with your michigan hating because it's the cool thing to do. but you'll never be more to michigan than a golden gopher or a boilermaker.
