One of the greatest jazz pianists of all time if not the greatest, Bill Evans ushered in a new aesthetic for the genre, tapping into introspection rather than aligning himself with the prevailing forceful swing of the time. He would go on to influence countless artists including fellow seminal pianists Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, etc. Many know him as merely that white guy on Kind Of Blue which, while accurate, is also unfortunate given the slew of fantastic records Evans offers as a bandleader. This is quintessential rainy afternoon jazz. Discuss, discover, etc.

It's an admittedly daunting discography, so I'd suggest starting with any of the 6 I've highlighted above. Here (http://sunonthesand.com/2009/my-little-corner-of-the-world-volume-33/)'s a blurb I wrote about You Must Believe In Spring (bottom of the page) a while back.

Undercurrent is oh so good. I can never find live at the village vanguard at the cd stores around here which sucks.

I cannot get over how absolutely gorgeous "A House Is Not a Home" is. I'm not sure there are words for it.
Edit: What record would I find that on? Because I'm buying it ASAP.

Nice rendition of My Funny Valentine on there.
Edit: A House Is Not A Home appears on I Will Say Goodbye.

Feel free to create a Monk thread, his work certainly warrants it.

Absolutely locating a copy of I Will say Goodbye. It's worth $10 just to be able to hear that one track any time I want.

You had me at rainy afternoon. Been wanting to expand my appreciation / knowledge / library of/for Jazz. Really enjoying the videos you posted here Vinh. Would you, or anyone else, suggest a particular album to start with or mainly just one of the 6 in the original post?

Apparently he played on a bunch of Tony Bennett records? This guy gets more and more respect from me by the second.

Mmmm. Was just listening to Symbiosis this past weekend while cranking out some horrid term papers. Perhaps not the most suitable Evans record for that purpose but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

He is great study music though. Can't wait to locate some of his stuff on vinyl and just chill out with a record on.

I got my friend's entire record collection, he's an older guy, and I found some great records. New Conversations and Interplay were two of them.
Bill Evans and Art Tatum are two of my favorite Jazz Pianists

Pick up Conversations With Myself and Further Conversations With Myself. The latter especially, is the finest of the "Conversations" albums.
