View Full Version : Fall Out Boy Begins Recording New Album
Jared Kaufman
07/27/06, 06:07 AM
Fall Out Boy (http://www.absolutepunk.net/falloutboy) is entering the studio today to officially begin the recording process for their new album. Pete offered some details, which you can read below.
We officially went into the studio today. We are going to be recording somewhere between 12 and 15 songs and should end up with about 12 or so on the new record. Yes, there are love songs. Yes, there are songs about the world around us (more than just stupid boys in bands singing about infamous girls), but there are a bunch of those songs as well. More updates on songs and new record very soon. Expect to hear the first single this winter and the new record very early next year.

So it sounds pretty "typical" for their sound. But earlier in the year, they were touting it to be "way different."
So, thematically, is it the same and it will sound different? Or was that just lip-service that bands like to dish out without thinking?

This band is soo fucking gay. They should just stop sucking each others cocks and start going on tour with Jessica Simpson. I have an urge to go out and buy Fall Out Boy's action figures along with MCR action figures and burn them in my oven, but I'm afraid of the nasty toxic fumes their shit spewing asses will give off. MCR = gay, Fall Out Boy = gayer, Hawthorne Heights = gayest.

Man I love pissing off you teenage emo kids on this website. The thing is MCR, Fall Out Boy, Hawthorne Heights, and all of the bands of Victory (excluding Voodoo Glow Skulls and Catch 22) write and play music that is so utterly bad that its like they are insulting themselves. When they learn to write songs about the problems really going on in this world then maybe I'll give them a listen, but I've been out of high school for 5 years and man I didn't even listen to this kind of shit music when I was in junior high. So go put on your eyeliner, your jeans you bought in the girls section, and keep your long ass hair in your eyes because the world knows that your just a pussy little pseudo depressed high school kid who thinks scremo is hardcore. VGS and Catch 22 are just so out of place on that label full of whiney, long haired, mid-west suburbia kids with too much time on their hands.

the best albums in my opinion are recorded in short periods of time, Tell all your Friends was recorded in like 2 weeks and I'm pretty sure TTTYG was recorded in around the same period of time. When you take too long in the studio you tend to want to tweak every little thing when it doesn't need to be done. Just my opinion.

also the longer it takes the more time people think about what it "should" sound like and a giant hype is created. its easier to fail that way. i dunno im not trying to act like i know what im talking about. im just saying from observing the way people act on here, the less time it takes for bands to make cds, the better the outcome usually is on here...

Good point! I shouldn't even be wasting my time dissing on spoiled little suburbia kids and their shit music. Good music lasts forever. FOB and MCR will be gone in a few years anyway while bands that play quality music (NoFX, Bouncing Souls, Sick of it All, and Ignite) will still be releasing amazing albums like they were in the 80's and 90's. I'm gonna go back to Punknews and enjoy the new Falcon song.

Do you realize that you sound like the biggest asinine fuck that has ever graced this website. First of all, most of the bands on Victory aren't "mid-west screamo bands, alot of them are from Long Island. (Sidenote: I hate most of Victory as well, but they had nothing to do with this discussion) And if I'm not mistaken...doesn't The Falcon have Dan Andriano in it? Didn't he like...just come off of a tour with My Chemical Romance a little while ago? Don't get me wrong here, I love Alkaline Trio, I love MCR and I like Fall Out Boy alot, there are all talented bands in what they do. MCR has its roots pretty deeply seated in the "punk" or "hardcore" scene of New Jersey, they just didn't feel like playing the same bullshit four-chord "punk" crap that has been repeated over and over again. Grow up dude, you make me ashamed that I like NOFX and Bouncing Souls and Catch 22 as well.

I'd definitely take a TTTYG pt. deux.
i wouldn't . . . i mean it's a great album and all, but that sound has been beaten to death and i think the guys in fob are much better songwriters (and probably musicians) than people give them credit for. i know that their new album probably won't be groundbreaking but i'd like to see them keep progressing and developing that TTTYG and FUCT sound that made them who they are, by combining it with their other influences and new styles. especially given some of the stuff patrick has worked on this past year, i'm quite excited to hear what they come up with

Patrick is an amazing musician, and I don't think he'll get the real credit he deserves while he is in Fall Out Boy. I mean, he'll get world wide recognition, but alot of people won't take him as anything more serious than another pop-punk guitarist, no better than Tom Delonge or whatever. I'd like to see Patrick do some acoustic R&B stuff. His vocals on the new GCH record and that acoustic version of the Ne-Yo song were incredible. Even the acoustic version of Sugar We're Goin Down re-sparked my attraction to that song after it was long since killed video radio over-play.

No, I just graduated UCLA with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I just am bored at work and nothing keeps me more entertained or occupied then bagging on bands that I don't like and seeing people get mad about it and mad at me. Fair enough. But, usually, after one goes through college they realize that there's just more important things to worry about than ripping on easy targets (such as FOB or MCR). Judging by your profile picture, you're not as unique as you probably think you are (studded belt? I don't try to dress the scene either, but I assure you you'll never see me caught in a pair of chick jeans wearing an underoath shirt with a huge mop of hair on my head.
I don't know man, you look pretty "scene" to me. You might not wear an underoath t-shirt, but I really couldn't tell you apart from all the other Warped Tour minions.

i think chick jeans are lame on dudes. but you know whats even more lame? red pants. who the fuck wears red pants? aren't you supposed to stop dressing like a jackass when you get a real job? or are you trying to keep it real and not become your dad?

pete is smarter than you think. he is a marketing guru-just look at him. i think that this album is going to lyrically probably stay in the regular but musically I think they are going to do something different-i'm excited for them.
yellowcard killed me with this new album-pretty horrible.

So it sounds pretty "typical" for their sound. But earlier in the year, they were touting it to be "way different."
So, thematically, is it the same and it will sound different? Or was that just lip-service that bands like to dish out without thinking?
you just completely discounted the actual music by saying this. everything's not lyrical content.
i wouldn't . . . i mean it's a great album and all, but that sound has been beaten to death and i think the guys in fob are much better songwriters (and probably musicians) than people give them credit for. i know that their new album probably won't be groundbreaking but i'd like to see them keep progressing and developing that TTTYG and FUCT sound that made them who they are, by combining it with their other influences and new styles. especially given some of the stuff patrick has worked on this past year, i'm quite excited to hear what they come up with
THANK YOU.
it's ridiculous to me that people want to keep listening to the same music/album over and over again after it's long been played out.

Maybe I'm a hypocrite, but I assure you I'm not a "hipocrite". I bought the red shorts at the dickies outlet store for $10 since you are so interested. Yeah I criticize the scene, but mainly I criticize because the music those bands play just sucks. Isn't FOB on Kidz Bop that CD where little kids sing songs. I bet there on NOW 2000000 also.

True story...
I was at a Simple Plan/MxPx show (no cred I know, but I've never had any) at Roseland in NYC and I was standing in line waiting to check my backpack. A convo went like this:
15-YEAR-OLD-GIRL: Are you like an accountant or something?
ME: Pardon?
GIRL: You look like you're an accountant?
ME: How so?
GIRL: I don't know, you look like you don't usually go to shows like this.
GIRL'S FRIEND: Yeah, you look like an accountant (snickering).
FYI: I have blonde hair, blue eyes, my hair is ocassionally spiky or messy but whatever. I usually wear t-shirt, shorts, or jeans and polo shirts and, you kids are right, it shouldn't matter. My point being here is that "punk" was initially started as to not comform with the norm but now, since I wasn't conforming with the usual ideas, I was being labeled as an "accountant" (I work in advertising actually). So what gives with this?
For the record, Fall Out Boy isn't on Kidz Bop, I think they were on one of the NOW CD's but honestly who gives a shit about that? The NOW CD's are all major label politics which, as I'm sure you know, is what happens when you sign to a major. If you like the tunes, listen to it, if not, don't. And what inspired you to by Dickies? I'm sure it wasn't because of your inclination towards the shorts. You bought them because the bands you like wore them and therefor, you thought it'd be cool which is fine, but just admit it.
P.S. The Suicide Machines are awesome.

Too bad they broke up in LA at the Troubadour. I was at that show... pretty sad. Hmm I've been wearing dickies for the last 7 years so it was probably some band I listened to back in high school. All I remember is I listened to a lot of NoFX and Pennywise back then.

Yeah, I remember seeing them at Warped Tour '00. That was my first Warped. Green Day was there too (right before Warning came out). They were a great live band. NoFx and Pennywise were always ok to me but they never seemed to progress at all.

hearing them play honorable mention was the best thing to ever happen at any of their shows I've been to this year.
At one point in time, Pete said it'd be like a cross between Michael Jackson and Take This To Your Grave. What happened to that idea?

Not many bands who get the success Fall Out Boy has gotten go and record a new album a year later, and I just think it's very cool and very humble of them to putting music out quicker than many successful bands do.
