Had my Music Theory midterm today. Guy was cheating in front of me and I left a note on my test telling the teacher he was. I feel kind of bad now. Not really sure why I did it, didn't really know the guy or anything, didn't really care about doing the right thing, just did it. He looked like an extra from Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift, probably one of the evil asian guys....

Guy was copying from homework, homework was corrected and in same format as class.

Class is graded via Bell Curve/weighted what not. We basically get slots for our grade. Certain number get A,B,C etc. If he does better because he cheated, I could go down a letter grade on 25% midterm

I'm not an expert in cheating myself, but here are some pretty easy ways:

1. Calculator programming
2. Secure the test questions beforehand (There was a student working in the admin office at my school that drunkenly admitted to having used that access to get an exam in advance)
3. Hide answers in the building and ask to go to the bathroom during the exam (I saw the same kid leave one of my finals three times to go to the bathroom. There's no way he wasn't cheating... but I can't prove it).

There are a ton of ways. And these are coming from a guy who's not very well-versed in it. Imagine if you took somebody who actually put their mind to it and was good at it...

If you're smart enough to cheat and not get caught - good for you. You've taken advantage of the system.

If you cheat and get caught - you deserve whatever punishment you have coming to you.


The reality is that this guy clearly wasn't smart enough to try cheating as he was caught by you. No harm done on your part. Don't sweat the guilt.

When I was studying in Australia they claimed they'd do this but then they asked us to clear the calculators rather than them clearing them for us. Suffice it to say, many students opted not to clear their calculators.
