Normally i hate those jokes also. But i didn't really see these as mentally challenged jokes. To me, it seemed more like they were trying to make stillers character look ignorant than anything else. It made fun of a false perception of mentally retarded people (I don't think i've ever seen someone who was mentally challenged and looked anything like the way simple jack did in the movie), but I can't remember this movie ever taking a direct shot at the mentally challenged.

Before this movie came out, there was a lot of talk about how offensive it was, and I just didn't understand why. If anything, it was calling actors idiots. I don't think just using the word retarded should count as being offensive.

i thought it was great. Downey and Black's characters were hilarious and Cruise was just out there funny. I have a brother with down syndrome and love him to death but I wasn't offended by the "retard" jokes either. Like someone else said, it felt like they were making fun of actors so no problemo.

i do like to laugh, i just don't think comedy translates well to film. i like some comedy movies, but the best movies ever made are never comedies. there's countless comedic t.v. shows i like; south park, seinfeld, the simpsons, fresh prince, even malcolm in the middle on occasion.
