Is so underrated. Any fans around here?
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y88/FstFtsVsFences/DSC01031.jpg
Not really.
Worst Disney park in North America, possibly of all of them.
Granted, that isn't necessarily an insult, because being the worst Disney park is still a good park. But I'd rather spend two days at DL than one at each park.
Although the last time I went, Superstar Limo (worst Disney ride ever) was still open. I know the Monsters Inc. ride in its place is a definite improvement, from watching a POV video.
I hope to get back there next year, but I'm a WDW man, myself. I'm going there in October for the Halloween party and Horror Nights.

My family are all big WDW fans. We went last month. Favorite trip ever. We stayed at the Boardwalk for the second time and absolutely loved it.
I'm probably staying at the Beach Club next year. My fiance and I are going there as part of our Honeymoon. She wants to do that, I wanted to do Polynesian (mostly because of the 3 minute monorail ride to MK).
The fanciest Disney resort we've stayed at so far was Port Orleans Riverside, which was nice. We usually stay at All Star Movies, which gets a bad rep as a shitty resort. It is the lowest quality of the Disney resorts, but like I said before, it's still Disney. Staying there saves us a lot of money by being a cheap hotel, free parking at WDW, and it's a quick drive.
underrated? Nah.
It's an okay park. When its hot the rapids are good. Soaring is cool, Screamin is cool, Tower of Terror is cool. Monsters is alright, but if you've seen the movie, it's the same (I hold the same stance on Pinocchio, Peter Pan and Snow White in DL). Maliboomer was basically replaced by TOT. The swings are alright, but nothing the local state fair doesn't have. And I'm not a fan of being whipped around on Mulholland. I still go over there to go on Soarin,Screamin, and Tower of Terror multiple times when I'm down there. And it's nice that it never has lines.
Well dark rides aren't famous for veering far from their subject material, or even being very innovative. I still love them, for no real explainable reason. Luckily WDW has Soarin' and TOT, so I'm not missing much from DCA.

While I understand and agree with those of you that made it clear DCA can't stand on its own, I think it's a great compliment to Disneyland. Animal Kingdom opened in 1998 over in Florida, so it's still a new park, but you have to give them a few years to get going.
DCA recently fixed up the whole Hollywood area with TOT, Monsters, and Crush, so with that kind of progress, I think this place has a lot of potential. Now I don't think they're going to overhaul the park and start over like some rumors out there, but what they need to do is just keep at it. With advances over in A Bug's Land and Hollywood, I hope they move over to the Bay Area and add some stuff there so it's not just restaurants.
California resorts I've stayed at:
- Grand Californian
- Disneyland Hotel
Florida:
- Port Orleans French Quarter
- Caribbean Beach
- All Star Sports
- Beach Club
I've been to all of the Florida resorts (eaten at a restaurant, pool hopped, or just walked around), and The Beach Club wins for best pool as well as best general area. I love the whole connection with the boardwalk and that lagoon there. Plus you're right next to my favorite park, Epcot. Polynesian I think would be a high contender with the monorail access and awesome food. Ohana = best meal ever.

1. Epcot
2. Magic Kingdom/Disneyland
3. MGM
4. DCA
5. AK
I have also been to the sports thing and both water parks but they are not worthy of this list. When I went to Disney Land I stayed at the Grand Californian and it was kinda lame.

I went to Disneyland and California Adventure last week and I enjoyed the few CA rides I went on. I was a fan of California Screamin and the Tower of Terror and that ferris wheel was hands down the most terrifying ferris wheel I've ever been on..but I wouldn't say it was my favorite park.

No seriously we had a packed cart because there were 8 of us, so obviously that made it swing more. I thought I was going to die, we were like facing straight down at times. Throw me up a building in an elevator and I don't care..but that wheel was some scary shit.

ah, i forgot about the ferris wheel. It's cool, but the line is always way too long. Usually about a 45 minute wait. And when you wait that long, then they put you with random people it's like wtf? I know they need to move people through the ride, but I don't want to talk about stuff with the people and my car and some woman with her 2 kids.
And Morgan: Turtle talk I also forgot about. It was cool the first time when the kid asked where do baby turtles come from? But last time I went one kid asked what's your favorite food? and then another asked what do you eat? I realize they are kids, so I shouldn't expect them to be too genius or anything...but the same question was just asked. Make my time with Crush more fun plz.

See I think it would be tough to spend a full day at DCA, but it works perfectly with Disneyland. Follow me here...
You start the day early at Disneyland, get on the big rides before the crowds show up. By lunch time, early afternoon the crowds have arrived and you're waitin 45 minutes to an hour for Indy when you know you should only have to wait 30 or less. So you skip across the way to DCA where there's never anyone over there in the first place, keep walking onto rides, and by the time you're back at Disneyland later that night the only crowds are gettin spots for Fantasmic and the fireworks, thus leaving the rides back to the short lines you know they should have.

It's probably one of my top 10 parks. I think it's absolutely beautiful and I could ride Screamin', Tower of Terror, and Soarin' all day. Actually, I could just walk and wander around the park all day and be insanely happy. It's a very underrated park and will grow on people as the park grows I'm sure.
See I think it would be tough to spend a full day at DCA, but it works perfectly with Disneyland. Follow me here....
While this might be faulty reasoning, if you can't spend a full day at a park (on your first visit), it's a weak park. If DCA had the two greatest rides in the history of amusement parks, and the rest of the park sucks... it's a weak park.
I definitely agree with what you mean, how it's a good two park-one day type of thing. However, DCA is still weak on its own.
I'd probably rank them:
1) MK
2) DL
3) Epcot
4) MGM
5) AK
6) DCA
MK and DL are close for me, but since I visit MK about twenty times as often, it gets the home field advantage for me.
I think Animal Kingdom is coming along well, with the addition of EE (which is fantastic, the yeti animatronics are unreal), and will continue to improve. Maybe DCA will follow suit, I guess we'll see.
And I was debating between Beach Club, Boardwalk, and Poly for my honeymoon. Poly only has double queen beds, and the Boardwalk pool has that fucking clown slide, so Beach Club it is.
Damn, I can (and once in a while, almost have) talk about Disney resorts all day. I'm a loser.

I love switching parks, my friends hate it because they're lazy. I like to start at Disneyland in the morning preferably. And ride Indiana Jones 1st, then Pirates, then Splash Mountain, then make my way over to Matterhorn, then to Space Mountain, then I leave and go to Mcdonalds across the street for cheaper food. and then go to DCA and ride Rapids first, then Screamin', then Tower of Terror, then some more rapids, then Soarin', then Rapids, then back at D-land. It repeats itself over and over because my friend's mom works there and signs us in for free every time.

I love all of the parks but MGM is just the weakest to me. Tower of Terror and RNR are 2 of my favorite rides but besides those 2, the park doesn't have very much to offer. I thought the great movie ride was fun. But the park has, imo, the worst 3-D rides out of the Disney World parks and Star Tours is vastly in need for a refurb.
The Lights, Motor, Action Stunt show was pretty damn cool though.

Yeah the Asia part helps a lot. To me, Animal Kingdom is just a fun park to walk around and look at everything. Going on all the trails and just taking everything in is half the fun to me. Sure they don't have a lot of rides, but the park isn't even 10 years old yet, they're gettin there. Everest is amazing and probably one of the best rides i've ever been on.

Please explain how DL is better than WDW.
Part of it may just be because I've grown up in California, but I've been to WDW 5 or 6 times now and just finished up a 5 month internship out there in June. Now, for me it's all good. I love Disneyland and I love WDW, but I prefer Dland in a second.
Magic Kingdom feels to me like it needs to be updated. Tomorrowland looks run down, a lot of the rides haven't been refurbed in a long time, it just feels like the company forgot about the park. Disneyland has more and better rides than MK and everything just looks nicer. Fantasyland for instance at MK is pretty much just a pathway with a couple rides. The outside looks the same to all of it except the signs on the outside saying which ride is which. There's more personality at Disneyland. Oh and if you head over to Adventureland, you'll run into one of the biggest things that Dland has that MK doesnt....... Indiana Jones. This ride is amazing.
WDW overall has more than the Disneyland resort, but MGM is boring and out of the 5 months I was there, I went there maybe 3 times. MK just makes me wish I was at Disneyland. That leaves Epcot and Animal Kingdom. I loooooooove those parks SO much. They're awesome, but I still like Disneyland more. I dunno, it's a tough call and I understand someone saying they like WDW more (hell, that's what everyone says out there), but for me it's Disneyland in a heartbeat.
Well I have no problem at all with someone preferring one over the other, but I just can't see how DL can be argued as superior to WDW.
I personally think the biggest advantage of DL is the fact that it is the original. It has some rides WDW doesn't, including the Matterhorn and Indy (although WDW has Dinosaur), and a few classic rides are better (Pirates, Space, and small world).
One of DL's biggest faults is that it is too close to reality. When you're in WDW, you can spend weeks there without ever having to go back into the real world. Even within WDW, the behind the scenes are so amazingly hidden, you almost never see a 'real world' interruption. I don't know where you interned (which sounds like the best thing ever, BTW), but I'm sure you know about the amazing utilidor system there. garbage cans never fill up, and instead of a cast member from Frontierland having to cut through Fantasyland to go somewhere, they just enter a doorway and disappear underground.
And while I do agree some of the aesthetics of Fantasyland could be improved, disregarding the area is crazy. Three dark rides, a carousel, Dumbo, iasw, Tea Cups, and (best of all, also lacking from DL) Philharmagic.
MGM isn't great (I don't know why I ranked it above AK, switch that for me), but it does have a lot of worth. Lights Motors Action, ToT, Rock n Roller, and the Indy show.
I'm gonna stop without getting into Epcot and AK, because I've already blabbered on long enough.
I also would like to say that I do think arguing (more debating, but still...) over which resort is better is more embarrassing after thinking about it. Personally, whatever one people like better is cool with me, and if people want to say this > that or whatever, that's cool too. I also think even debating over one resort's superiority almost goes against the 'magical' spirit. But I'm a Disney ****** like that.
Fst, what did you do as an intern? I would love more than anything to work at WDW in some career capacity (aka not working in the Frontierland McDonalds fry booth), so that really sounds awesome.

Yeah. That is what I do and makes me enjoy the park. It's not enough to spend a full day at, but there are a few things to do there that makes hopping across parks worth it.

The Magic Kingdom POTC is terrible imo too. It's like 5 and a half minutes, and doesn't make any sense linearally. As Morgan said, its like take everything that was a hit at disneyland, but pack in a little more, then add Phillharmagic.
Phillharmagic really needs to come out to CA. Possibly get rid of Golden Dreams? But then DCA has too many 3D movies =\.

Yeah they were really tough on all that sorta stuff. Lots of people got sent home and when you get kicked out, you only have 24 hours to be off premesis. Also, they're really strict on who they let into the apartment complexes... They can search any cars coming in randomly, even the trunks. So yeah security was tough.

That's what I did. They put me as Merchandising in the store Mouse Gear at Epcot. We were the second largest store on Disney property (World of Disney in Downtown was the biggest), so it was always busy and shifts usually went by pretty quickly.
You work full time in the parks, you get all the Disney benefits (ie. discounts, free entry to the parks, free parking, that type of thing), but you don't get paid very well. What they lack in paying you though they make up in hours. You work A LOT. And most the summer you end up working 6 days a week. Work sucked here and there, but playing in the parks was fun and it was more than a worthwhile experience. You get Disney on your resumee, you meet a lot of great people (met my soon-to-be fiancee there), and it really is as much fun being a cast member as it is being a guest.
Also for you Disney nerds, you can pick up shifts at other places other than just your place. Your home job is totally randomly placed (one of my roommates lucked out and worked at Soarin, others worked custodial or parking trams), but it is fun picking up shifts at other places on your days off and getting over time. I picked up at Animal Kingdom and MK a couple times and it was rad. I worked at The Emporium on Main Street (lame store, but snaaazzy costume) and Island Mercantile at DAK (really laid back store and costume, lots of fun).
So overall, it's definitely worth looking into and doing, but rather than picking the longer of the 2 programs, pick the shorter one and if you like it then extend. If you pick the Advantage (longer) one you're stuck there the whole time. Also, make sure you bring a car if you can, the buses were really unreliable.
Ah, that sounds really good for a job, just for one below my age group. I'm out of undergrad and am working on my mba now. I'll keep looking, but I'm not going too hard at it, since I'm sure good careers there are hard to come by.

I may look into this, but unfortunately not right now. I'll be getting married in June, so I'm sure the last thing my fiance would want is for me to be in another state for months at a time in preparation for the event. I wish I had done something like this a lot earlier.
We are, however, strongly looking into moving to the central Florida area, so if we do, I will try to inquire from there.

i just feel the rides are better and the staying at one of the universal hotels is awesome because when you use your room key you go to the front of all the lines. no waiting an hour with fast pass

Comparing Universal and Disney World is the equivelent to DCA to DL.
Universal/IOA are great parks to complement Disney, but it isn't better.
the rides are more thrilling at universal, but disney is just so big and has alot more staying power.
if you stay at disney you could stay 3 hours before/after the parks close.

but with universal staying their and having the unlimited fast pass from the hotel you can go on everything you want to as many times as you want to

Ha ha, yeah, that's what I'd be worried about. As much as I would love to work for them as a career, I think that retail is about as high up as you'd go at first. And even though you could probably work your way up, it'd be too late for me to start.
DL doesn't have the vacu-garbages, right?
I've only seen the sweepers and people changing the stuff on their own

Universal Studios is Hollywood sucks except for Jurassic Park and the Tram ride. I don't know about the Florida one.

Neither Dland nor WDW have vacu-garbages. It's all custodial.

just out of curiousity but does anyone know what Epcot is planning on doing to the wonders of life pavilion? To my understanding they closed it down last year.
