Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), in a highly competitive situation, announced today the signing of rock group Dashboard Confessional front man and founder, Chris Carrabba, to an exclusive, worldwide co-publishing deal. The band's new album Dusk and Summer (Vagrant) enters at No. 2 this week on the Billboard 200 top albums chart
"Chris Carrabba is one of the finest songwriter/artists of our generation and we are thrilled that he and Dashboard Confessional are joining the UMPG family. He deserves this, congrats to him and the band on all their success.
This doesn't mean he's going to be in films and television shows...it means his music is. All a publishing deal is that he allows Universal to seek opportunities for his music to be used: commercials, video games, ringtones, etc....and also collect his mechanical royalties.
It has NO bearing on his contract with Vagrant, and he probably received a very large advance, somewhere in the $2-3 Million range, which will offset his earnings from both synchronized and mechanical royalties.

Yeah, and the fact that Interscope owns Vagrant, he's pretty much already affilated with Universal Music Group, even more so now.
