Taylor Kirk's haunting howl provides a pleasant focus over economical, bluesy folk tunes. His third album, the brilliantly eerie Timber Timbre, was released last year and is his best work yet. Discuss.

Haha, I guess I'll have to check out the song now to see if that's an insult or not ;] I remembered you rec'd this forever ago...I must have forgot to listen.

No, I don't think I sound quite that manly either! But what a lovely voice...and the band name fits the music rather nicely. I can't make any promises, but I'll try to get the album soon haha.

Sweet! I've got a lot of use out of that album, so if you're anything like me it's worth a spin.

Still haven't listened to the album yet. My thoughts on "Demon Host" can be read here: http://thedecomposedblog.wordpress.com/2009/12/27/quick-listen-timber-timbre/

For those too lazy to check out the link:

"Taylor’s voice took a bit for me to get comfortable with. It sounds rather warm and inviting over the cool acoustic guitar, but something about it just didn’t rub me quite right at first. Lyrically, there are some good moments, but the constant couplets feel a bit forced at times. At his best, he flows smoothly from line to line, delivering his words rather naturally while retaining the rhyme and meter; at his worst, he feels choppy as a tenth-grader’s poetry assignment. In spite of these complaints, I did enjoy the song and will likely check out the rest of the album when I get the chance."

After hearing that you really dig 'em. :-d To be honest, I definitely like Joy Electric more, but that's not to say that they're "better." Not familiar enough with either to say, and don't care much either, lol.

I'd like Timber Timbre more if they sounded more like Selena Gomez... Just sayin'.

Does the whole album have the same swampy warmth as "Demon Host"? If so, I'll probably save it for warmer weather. It'd probably be a good album for warm summer nights.

Ha, true. The setting of the first serious listen can really affect my opinion of an album anyways, so might as well wait for the season I'd probably appreciate it most in.

It's his same excuse for the mics, "waiting til the summer" as in "I'm too lazy to ever listen, but thanks."

haha Yeah, I sensed some tone in that reply.

Just look at him! It's clearly Tim's sinister intentions. Just go look at his profile picture...he's playing mindgames with us both.

Edit: Oof, looks like the profile picture just entered the thread.

This doesn't count as Timber Timbre talk.

And I don't let Tim in this thread, so your secret is safe with me.

'Trouble Comes Knocking' sounds like Thorogood's 'Bad to the Bone'.

It's summer in Canada? We still had rain clouds this week! Well, us seniors are pretty much done with school next week, and we're probably going to hit the beach (which is rather overrated, in my opinion, except the breathetaking quality of the ocean itself.) Oh and I just took the AP Calculus test this morning.

High Violet growing on you at all?

I love the beach. Almost as much as I love beachfires.

Haven't listened since my initial time, as I'm waiting for the physical release. I'm very excited to hear it again and discuss it with you.

I've never made one before, but I like bonfires while camping. I like camping.

It's actually quite a gorgeous album actually. Didn't make such a good initial impression, but I think it was because what I was listening for didn't match up with what I heard.

That's so sad, but awesome. Listening to them makes me very happy to live where I am. You can really feel while you're driving around that the music was created in the same atmosphere. Same with Attack in Black.

Me and my friends have beachfires all the time here. It's sort of our thing. Camping is the best.

Whatchu mean 'awesome'? Well, it's better than Justin Bieber, that's for sure!

Camping is one of my favorite things to do. If it's that enjoyable with family, it's probably tenfold more fun with friends. Too bad most my friends hate camping.
