Underoath (http://www.absolutepunk.net/underoath) have left Warped Tour due to personal reasons. They were not suspended or asked to leave by the tour, but will not be finishing out the final two weeks.

I'm sorry to the people that won't get to see them. But I think a lot of you would be more pissed if we didn't post it. I talked to someone who said they've had a ton of people come up to them today and ask when UO is playing and he had to tell them that they're not.

As asinine a comment as PunkENG made, it does hold some water. You all can't deny that uO will more than likely not be a band that will stick around for years to come and continue to make "ground breaking" music. They're not doing anything that much different. And this is most likely a type of music that isn't going to be a staple in the music scene for many years.
With that said however, this is very sad to see, but when you are continually getting persecuted for making the kind of music you make, playing it for the largest crowds at Warped, all the while trying to have an uplifting message for the kids that goes in turn with their music, getting made fun of by the punk bands and members who think the music scene has turned to shit because of bands like uO, then why WOULD you wanna stay on the tour? That was a really long sentence.
When they came through Dallas tho, they had the biggest crowd all day. And when Spencer says they're doing it for Jesus Christ, the crowd applauded him. Not one boo-bird. He doesn't say you all should be saved. Damn your souls for not being a Christian. They love all their fans the same. That's more than I can say for most of the punk bands that are on this tour. Being torn down because of your beliefs is just sad and pathetic. The truth is, a LOT of people believe in this band and their music. And I think a part of Fat Mike, as well as others in the punk/true hardcore scene, are dissapointed to see the scene where its going. uO just seems to be taking the fall.

NOFX is the shittiest band on that bill.
Ask Fat Mike to sing ANY of the stuff that Aaron does,

Because Fat Mike can't sing, he can grunt.
At least Underoath doesn't release the same album twice,

Very well stated. I love NoFX and this year's warped tour sucked anyway. All the good bands (Bouncing Souls, Rise Against, Anti-Flag) have done or are going to do nation wide tours meaning no shitty 30 minute line up and no corporate sponsorship bombardment.

I am a n00b at posts/reading threads on this board. But a lot of you need to grow up and respect differences of opinion in music/band taste. I'm sure this will never happen, and it's been said 1000 times before.
Seriously tho, resorting to tearing each other down doesn't really quite make your opinion count that much more. In fact, in only lessens it.

fuck is right. i wish somethign about it would leak out, haha. underoath has done warped tour before right? maybe it was too hot out, they forgot their sunscreen and had to go home.
When Warped came here, I walked in and caught the last few songs of Underoath's set, and right before their last song, they said their whole "we do this for Jesus, and we don't say that to upset anyone or try to convert anyone, we just want you to know." After their last song, The Bouncing Souls came out and Bryan was like "hey guys, we're The Bouncing Souls, the band that doesn't ask you to believe in anything except yourself."
And during NOFX's set, Fat Mike kept going off about how he'd let his Christian friend write the setlist (which opened with "Eat The Meek" and was very SLATFATS-heavy) and also kept making fun of the setlist that he'd wrote and blamed it on the fact that the dude was Christian.
So, basically, from what I've observed, there's quite the anti-Christian sentiment on this year's Warped. And it would seem that Underoath has had enough. Then again, I don't know all the details.

If Underoath isn't trying to convert anyone then how come they say constantly they are "doing this for Jesus". If they are Christian that's fine, but some people just get irritated when people keep outwardly confessing their faith. By doing so they are indirectly professing it to the crowd. They should just play music.

the same can be said that fat mike should shut his mouth and just play music.
1. he was discriminating against a band for what they believe
2. wasnt fat mike telling people on warped in 04 who to vote for? they do have an album cover with a cartoon of bush and an album of songs about how he doesnt need to be president right? the fact of the matter is, he was PREACHING a POLITICAL MESSAGE. telling people who to vote for or how to believe. if anything at least underoath wasnt telling you how to believe. they were just saying what they do believe.

Freedom of speech. I agree that if they just left their religous beliefs on the tour bus and could just play music for 30 minutes that would be good but if they insist on saying thqat, then so what? Just because they reiterate the fact that they are christians does not mean that they are trying to change peoples religous beliefs.

2. wasnt fat mike telling people on warped in 04 who to vote for? they do have an album cover with a cartoon of bush and an album of songs about how he doesnt need to be president right? the fact of the matter is, he was PREACHING a POLITICAL MESSAGE. telling people who to vote for or how to believe. if anything at least underoath wasnt telling you how to believe. they were just saying what they do believe.

Amen. I really cannot believe some of the things that he has done and said about Christianity alone, let alone other issues. (Remember that blog that he sat in on at "Warped Bible Study" or whatever, totally ignorant) I caught him saying stuff in passing, because God knows I wouldnt be caught dead listening to an NoFx set.

Freedom of speech. I agree that if they just left their religous beliefs on the tour bus and could just play music for 30 minutes that would be good but if they insist on saying thqat, then so what? Just because they reiterate the fact that they are christians does not mean that they are trying to change peoples religous beliefs.
Yeah I guess so, but I kind of understand because for most of my life I went to Christian school. I left because everyone at those Christian schools wouldn't shut up about thanking Jesus for everything and openly confessing their faith 24/7. My belief is that whoever you believe in, it should be a personal spiritual relationship. What you believe is up to you, some people just get irritated hearing about it.

it just bothers me that noone cares if a band tells you who to vote for,

Agreed. I'd have to say that I lost a lot of respect for him that day. I've never even seen NOFX play except at Warped Tour, and I don't think they've ever come around here in the 3 years between Warped appearances. I love NOFX, but I hate the shit he pulls on stage. They seriously wasted about 10-15 minutes of their set time just fucking around and even cut into Thursday's set time a little (but only because Thursday was the last band of the day).
If Underoath isn't trying to convert anyone then how come they say constantly they are "doing this for Jesus". If they are Christian that's fine, but some people just get irritated when people keep outwardly confessing their faith. By doing so they are indirectly professing it to the crowd. They should just play music.
Professing != Converting
I thought they way they chose to express their love for Jesus was very tasteful and in no way preachy. Comments from The Bouncing Souls and Fat Mike were not tasteful at all. Besides that, they didn't say it "constantly." They just said it the one time at the end of their set.

So they take say 15 seconds out of their set to profess why they are a band and shoot straight from the heart!? HOW FAKE! I'd much rather hear 43 year old ass clowns yelling about how "Bush isn't THEIR President"...oh wait...no I wouldnt....

So, basically, from what I've observed, there's quite the anti-Christian sentiment on this year's Warped. And it would seem that Underoath has had enough. Then again, I don't know all the details.
I doubt this because UO probably deals with stuff like this all the time. I bet it's a family situation or someone got sick and they don't want to trumpet it to everyone.
but what you people have to realize is that many people feel that christianity is opressive/bad/whatever. They have just as much right to bash Christians as you have to bash them for expressing their anti-christian views. get off your high horse unless you're being truly tolerant and saying something like: "i disagree with what fat mike has to say about christianity and feel it is hypocritical, but he has the right to say it."

NOFX is the shittiest band on that bill.
Ask Fat Mike to sing ANY of the stuff that Aaron does,
and he won't be able to.
Because Fat Mike can't sing, he can grunt.
At least Underoath doesn't release the same album twice,
or 20 times like NOFX.
That's all I'm saying.
And Christianity is not something to mock, man.
Just because they believe in something you don't, gives you
no right to go and belittle what they believe. It's not like
they're asking you to believe in it.
So go put on your sleeveless leather jacket with patches
cruedly sewn on that you probably bought at Hot Topic
along with your plaid pants and quit being such an asshole.

They did not leave the tour because Fat Mike "pissed them off."
And seriously, I'm an atheist. I don't believe in any god, higher power, et cetera. But I don't have a problem with Christian bands spending 10 seconds talking about God or saying "God bless you." They play music and they believe in something. Isn't that what it's supposed to be all about in the first place? Fat Mike follows a similar trend, but he spends the entire set talking about it and hates on other bands and people.
I like both bands; I saw UO at Warped and that's really what made them click with me. But why people feel the need to be complete douchebags on here and hate on a band because of what they believe in (which really doesn't affect any of you)--it just doesn't make sense to me.

Yep. No one's been maimed, tortured, or murdered for their beliefs before...and forget the crusades or anything...these Underoath guys certainly have it the worst anyone has had it before. Not to mention the thousands of fans on any given day that will stay and see them and give them positive feedback. So their plan was to stay on the dates in the south, preach to the choir, and then when they go to the north they let some fat cokehead asshole's comments override their message and quit. Whatever.
I have a lot of respect for this band, their music, and even their message. It's just sad to see that when the going gets tough they'd rather not spread their message and instead just go home.

NOFX helped pioneer pop punk/skate music in the early to late nineties, have their own record label, some really solid releases, etc. Are they still relevent? Maybe not, but to say a band full of kids who've risen to the pile of ever-growing MTV2 sing/scream/girl jeans metalcore bandwagon for a few years (they used to be much heavier if you remember) is BETTER is hilarious.

most Christians are pro-life, conservative, condescending assholes.
Please don't say "most." You only think that because you're only aware of those christians that speak out in the media and make themselves heard. You never hear about the christians that love and accept and forgive everyone. The nonjudgemental christians aren't ever in the public eye, and it's a shame that some old fashioned hypocrites are seen as the majority of a religion.

NOFX has some really great releases and some really poor ones. I have a feeling Underoath WON'T be performing those same songs when they're in their 30s or 40s or even be around that long as a band...imagine 40 year old men with the same side part hair cuts and and tight jeans, that would look hilarious, I mean it already does, but even more so.
well, it's a good thing you decided to not take sides.
This whole thread's been ridiculous. I hope it's something we can get a definitive answer to and make this thread stop.

You know, I'd almost consider doing that since you KNOW this would get a ton of press.

I'm just curious, but the people who say they aren't Christian, do you still celebrate Christmas? It seems like there are some people pretty against the whole Christian thing, so are you pretty bummed on Christmas Day when nothing under the tree is for you or do you not care? I'm not really trying to be a dick, but I always wonder that when religion comes up on this site. Because I'm sure people aren't Christian for a good reason and that's cool, but we all know there has to be a few brats on here who denounce Christianity, but would throw a total shit fit if they didn't something from Santa.

Hahahaha. Dude, I know Jewish people who celebrate Christmas. Its a fucking holiday now, and to a whole lot of people, has absolutely nothing to do with Christ. I'm not trying to be a dick, but you'd have to stupid to claim that the true essence of Christmas was Christ, when now its more about presents (and its marketability), family and the "Christmas Spirit," which is a feeling, and not Jesus. Christmas trees, lights and hot chocolate have replaced halos, waifers and wine.
If Christmas was still about Christ, then we'd be celebrating the decapitation of a Saint every February 14th.
However, if I'd been conditioned to get presents on Ash Wednesday and all of a sudden stopped getting them, I'd be confused and somewhat pissed.

If Underoath isn't trying to convert anyone then how come they say constantly they are "doing this for Jesus". If they are Christian that's fine, but some people just get irritated when people keep outwardly confessing their faith. By doing so they are indirectly professing it to the crowd. They should just play music.
During the election year, act's outwardly talked about who they believed everyone should vote for. They tried to change people's mind. What underOATH do during their set is the equivalent of merely saying what party the vote for. They're not even trying to change people's minds or belief system, they're just being up front about who they are. There is nothing wrong with that, and I have a lot of respect for their willingness to do that.

i really don't think it's because of fat mike, cuz in all of the interviews and stuff they talk about how he's a cool guy and "he does his thing and they'll do theirs" kinda deal. I would really be sad if it was parting ways with spencer. that would seriously suck. i don't want this to turn into a further seems forever deal. It says "personal issues" so maybe there was just some stuff going on that the band needed to take care of . . . maybe it's nothing that big at all. maybe they all got really sick and are going home to rest for a while. let's just wait to hear what the band has to say.

if that is true, that is surprising. however, i don't think underoath are the type that if spencer did something like that just once, then they would dismiss him and throw him to the wolves. there's a thing called forgiveness that they believe in. i mean, if this kind of thing happened everyday over and over on the bus for the whole tour and then they talked about it as a band then it would be different. A lot of my family is Muslim.. so I don't like the bomb comment. And all the Muslims in my family went to Catholic school. So I am cool with Christianity, but since I don't really have a religion, I don't celebrate Christmas.
I don't like Fat Mike's comments about UnderOath, I think they are unecessary, and I am surprised that Kevin Lyman hasn't told him to STFU. I'm not a huge fan of either band, but I don't think they are overbearing about their religious views. And I am the first person to be uncomfortable with preaching. I live on the same cul de sac as this family of Jehovah's Witnesses, and although I respect their religion, I HATE that they send us their religious brochures in the mail and try to convert my 15 year old brother.

I was told about this yesterday while at work. My friend called me from the Indy date and had talked to someone who is close to the band about why they weren't there. Here's what she told me:
Underoath decided to drop because of Fat Mike's antics towards them. He apparently had been making comments during their set about Spencer doing coke - which has been mentioned in this thread - and how Spencer was seen flirting with another girl, which might cause a problem since he's engaged/married, I don't remember anymore. Fat Mike also apparently made a sign that read "Atheists and Agnostics only shower here" one morning. I think that the last incident was the one that really got to Underoath and they decided to leave the tour.
However, some members were still seen walking around Indy yesterday. So who knows what's actually happening. I just know what I was told from a fairly concrete source.

Did I ever say they were original? No. I said they weren't like TBS. Because they're not. Neither TCOT, TOCS, or DTGL have sounded like Taking Back Sunday.

And I think a part of Fat Mike, as well as others in the punk/true hardcore scene, are dissapointed to see the scene where its going. uO just seems to be taking the fall.

they flaunt their faith openly...that is their selling point. They wouldn't sell as many records if they weren't christian. Comedy is NOFX's thing.
