View Full Version : FOB Among Top Concert Money Makers

Fall Out Boy (http://www.falloutboyrock.com) grossed about $9.8 million so far this year in concert sales (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/28/AR2006072801444.html).
The emergence of Fall Out Boy is good news for an industry needing new headliners. "We're very excited how the FOB tour went," Fall Out Boy manager Bob McLynn says. "They've built it from the ground up. Kind of surreal to see the same little band selling out all these arenas."

That's pretty amazing...I'm still in shock considering just over a year ago I was seeing them at House of Blues with a couple hundred people, but now you see them selling out arenas and amphitheaters.

Wow that's a boat load of cash. I wonder how much they actually get from that total.... and i'm sure merch sales are seperate also, so i bet they made a pretty penny off that considering every twelve year old girl in town wants a FOB tee when they go to the show.

OMG! FOB!

Which do you think it will be for their next album? Either, a repeat of FUCT, platinum and another set of 10 million dollar tour and TV appearances... Or, a repeat of FUCT, no progression and people get sick of them in 3 weeks, first single bombs, second single never happens and they choke out a living because Island is a good label... Well, that or Pete Wentz leaves the band for his GAP modeling campeign with Lenny Kravitz and Sara Jessica Parker.

sometimes its weird to see how huge theyve gotten. but they really do deserve it

geez. I read somewhere else, too, that they were one of the only "rock" bands to do so, either. A lot of the top concert sales are shit like Mariah Carey.

yah apparently they are... i guess my friend saw clerks 2 and saw pete wentz (at the arclight(?) in hollywood i believe) and wanted to punch him in the face (so he'd forever be known as the guy who punched pete wentz in the face) but mr. wentz was really nice and i guess recognized one of his friends at different shows and such.

That's an impressive amount of money considering the size of most of the venues they play, and that tickets (at least around here) were no more than $30.

Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Coldplay, Pearl Jam, DMB (ugh) U2 (ugh), Nickelback (ugh), Kenny Chesney (ugh) were all the other top sellers.

Everytime I've seen them since FUCT was released it has been around 30 dollars.

You must be kidding. Nintendo Fusion had to have at least 1000 people there. When they say "from the ground up", we are talking in 2003 I saw them play a VFW hall for about 90 people about 50 minutes south of Pittsburgh. And they had a decent fan base here because they had toured with Punchline before that. So I'm sure they played even smaller places to less kids around that time.

yea, i saw them in 03 opening for LTJ at the Pageant, and opening for Mest at MS Nights. that summer they played Creepy Crawl, they've been through St Louis a ton and played all kinds of places for not many kids, that Fusion tour show was fairly large(Pageant), not ampitheater, but a large concert hall.

Damn, that is a lot of money. Good to see a "scene" band make it into the top money makers.

yeah selling out arenas on a headling tour is a little different than opening for other bands at shack places like the congress theatre in chicago which probably holds about 1500 people.

Hooray for a mediocre band making millions of dollars off of mediocre music because the people who decided old boy bands aren't cool anymore ate it up? That's America for ya. I don't care how "hard" they've worked (and over what? one or two shitty albums? big fucking deal.) or how "nice" they are. There is a mile long list of bands who are harder working, nicer and have much more interesting and intelligent subject matter who deserve it more, even though they don't try way too hard to get it. The only reason this band got big is because people are stupid and will buy into anything that doesn't require thought. No one will care about them in a few years and I won't be surprised. I don't read these threads enough to see all the retaliation I'm sure I'll receive for seeing through the bullshit. But then again, it's almost even more cool to ignore disagreeing opinions, so who knows? Who cares? Most of you people are so far up FOB's ass to see daylight anyway, so there really is no reason for me to say anything in the first place. I need to stop reading this crap. I'm going out. Have fun.

In regards to St. Louis, the pageant holds about 2200 people or so, so it isn't too small but compared to the family arena (which is where they played last) its a drop in the pond. Fallout boy played Pop's in Sauget with Midtown 3 months before the release of FUCT (before sugar, we're going down even hit air) and sold it out. They've progressively made steps up. They played the old Creepy Crawl at least 2 times I can think of before before the LTJ show and it held less than 300 people at max capacity along with playing Mississippi Nights once. St. Louis was a major staple of tours for them seeing as how Chicago is only 5 hours away during support for take this to the grave. While everything may have looked like they were an overnight success it was more like a 3 year progression and it spread faster than an std

That is completely amazing. To see a band go from mere obscurity to a household name is so weird, no matter how many times it happens. I am happy for them, that is really awesome. It's just nice Pete finally earned the cash to move out of his folks' house.

he could have moved out long ago, Joe has lived on his own for years. Being on the road so much there was no point to do it so fast.

He has said he needed to move out earlier but was too lazy. But whatever, I'm just happy for these guys.
