I'm interested in seeing what you all think of this series. When i get the chance, i'll work like twenty minutes at a time on Shattered Memories and i've never completed a whole game. (The only other ones i played were Silent Hill 2 on the xbox, and The Room on the xbox, both great games.) How do they hold up in present gen format to you?

Parasite Eve was better.

Parasite Eve was better.
Psh, D was the best and came out before Silent Hll and Resident Evil.

OP, have you played the first Silent Hill? That is probably the single scariest game out there, IMO. By far it is the best one compared to the rest in the series.

Resident Evil was also very good, have you played the first two in this series?

The Suffering is the scariest game I have ever played. It seriously gave me nightmares.

Really? The 1930's or so prison thing?

Dead Space was pretty good...

-Resident Evil 1
-Resident Evil 1 (gamecube remake)
-Res Evil Code Verionica
-Silent Hill series
-D (ps1 title from like 95, not very popular)
-Friday the 13th for NES i thought was pretty scary.

The whole game just freaked me out. The ton of it, darkness, the frightening enemies. It was all just crazy.

Silent Hill 2 > all other Silent Hill games

Parasite Eve was better.

One of my all time favorites.

Can't really compare the two. Silent Hill was seriously scary, while Parasite Eve was more of a sci-fi thriller.

The original Silent Hill is ridiculously scary.

I've actually been trying to get into these lately. Tried SH1 for PS1 two days ago, one of the worst control schemes I've ever seen on a game people actually praise. How did you really sit through that? Whoever had the great idea of "up walks forward, left and right turn you" in a style of game like that needs to be shot. Seriously, I know a lot of that-era games were like that, but I find it unbearable.

I like the games, but only played 3 and 4. I really want to play the other ones but they're so damn hard to find/expensive

I love that game. So easy to beat.

I remember the first time I played Silent Hill. I wanted a "scary game", to spook myself with at night. So I picked up Silent Hill 2 for like, $8 at a Gamestop once. I went home, started to play it and found myself bored with the story, hating the shitty controls and just overall not really excited about it. Went to return/trade it in and was only offered $2. So I kept the game and forced myself to play it. Since then I've loved it.

I've played 2, 3, 4, Origins and Homecoming. Frankly, I love the games but I think the best part of the games are not only the stories, but the great music by Akira Yamaoka. And it sucks that he left Konami.

The second one was horrible.

Did you ever play either Condemned? Those games were pretty brutal.

Really? I remember thinking the second was the first with just a different storyline, which was the firsts re-worked a bit.

Yes, never beat it but I think I still own it. It was fun, just not fun to play at night which is when I have the most X-Box time, haha.

I just didn't like the atmosphere of the second game. It didn't have to fright factor the first game had. The ending sucked too.

Condemned was so damn creepy. The scene in the subway was damn scary. The second game had an epic battle with a bear. Loved it.

I agree.

I never played the 2nd but I've heard it's as good as the first. Need to check it out. Looks epic.

Can't really compare the two. Silent Hill was seriously scary, while Parasite Eve was more of a sci-fi thriller.

Not to mention fell under some role playing conventions as well. Now that I think about it if they released Parasite Eve and Vagrant Story on PSN I'd be very content with life.

The original was an awesome game, I loved it. I haven't played the other ones due to me not wanting to pay an arm and a leg to buy them.

Exactly! I got both 2 and 4 soundtracks. The eerie music mixed with a very dark room makes the game 10x better!

i think if you're playing the game today, alot of it would not be as scary... I recently replayed Silent Hill 2 and it's not very scary at all. I even played the Xbox version. I played through alot of RE2 and the graphics and control just kill the experience now.

Although the gamecube Remake of Resident Evil remains the scariest for me. It caught me a few times.
Also Deadspace got a few jumps. Doom 3 did too.
