I'm thinking about starting a music blog where I review an album every day, based on suggestions from friends, family, and you AP members! Any suggestions?

Or is this a lousy idea?

I give it a week before you collapse into boredom, apathy, and self loathing.

Maybe an album a week is more reasonable. One per day is a huge commitment that would burn you out abruptly.

I think it's a good idea. I'd do it if I wanted to collapse into boredom, apathy and self loathing.

You can't review an album in just one day.

you need more than a day to get familiar with an album. one a week would be better.

good idea if you change it to an album a week. start with nfg self titled

Bad idea, I'd say to review an album it takes around 10 solid listens at least, and not just back to back listening. Like above, one album a week would be more realistic.

One a week. Review the new Freelance Whales record. That album rules

If you have enough time on your hands -- for a thorough 5-10 listens and the writing process -- I don't see why not. Suggestions from family would be particularly interesting, at least to me.

I think one album a day would be really difficult to keep up with.

I think you should do it. But maybe every other day or once a week, depending on how much time you have. Even if you do have enough time to listen to the album a bunch in one day, I think it's usually better to let it sink in a little before reviewing it.

I can't think of the name of it, but there's a blog that already does a review a day of this kind of music. Doesn't mean you shouldn't go for it though.

I guess you could do 1 a day if it was 'first impressions' instead of reviews.

so album a week would be a decent idea?

Hahaha I guess the real question is, would anyone read it?

I write reviews for TV shows on various websites, and trying to write a review right after watching an episode means writing it based on your first thoughts.. but any new things you pick up later go unsaid. I'll follow what everyone else has said and agree: one a week, or at least one every two days or so, after you get familiar with it.

I would. It is an interesting idea even if it isn't the most original. I always look forward to reading peoples thoughts and opinions on music and certain albums.

Depends on whether you can write or not.
And an album a month would be more reasonable

And I'd say keep it at an album a week. Obviously this is something you're interested in doing and if your original idea was one a day than you want to do it often. One a day might be a little too harsh on yourself and your reviews may not turn out as great as if you gave yourself a week to listen/write. you'll find yourself missing quite a few days too I'm sure. Doing one a month might not turn out so great, either. You won't be keeping yourself busy and would probably lose interest in the idea.

I'm going for one a week, any ideas what to do first albumwise? I might go with Enemy of the World, but I want some good suggestions

Begin writing maybe ten or twelve reviews in advance before you actually start the process, would give you time to keep on keeping on.
If that does fall through though, just do one a week; way to big of a commitment for one a day without the afore-mentioned try.
Anyways I'd like to see another review for New Junk Aesthetic- by ETID, and perhaps a back in the day review for Dying Is Your Latest Fashion- by Escape The Fate.
(I understand that DIYLF is somewhat generic and all, and that many people dislike it: but I just love it. Hope ETF can redeem themselves with the TBA.)

I agree with everyone else on the one album per week thing. I tried to do a blog where I just blabbed about one SONG per day and I could barely keep up with that. Oh, and I recommend St. Vincent's Actor. it isn't a very new album but I've been listening to it a lot lately.

One a week. For your first album you should review Mosaic by Woven Hand (or are you only reviewing new music?)

Well, I started mine with this concept a few months ago. It's not about the lack of albums or the lack of listens to judge them but the lack of time to write the reviews. I used to keep the pace, but if you're a student and if you have a busy social life, it's pretty hard. I just do as many reviews as I can.

i was going to start doing something similar. if you read my blog here, you'll see what i mean.

weekly updated posts that have a short write up on something that i've been recently listening to for the first time, new bands, etc... then a longer post about a favorite band.

if you dig what i wrote, comment on my blog!

Make sure you don't just review albums you like.

Don't you feel like you know every inch of your parents' music collections by now, growing up with them and all? Or is that just me?

Personally, the only knowledge I have of their favorites comes in the form of tunes they played when I was growing up. If their interest in music has remained since, I would love to hear what they've been spinning of late.

Always interesting to read album reviews. As mentioned by others, if you can review albums outside of your “preferred” pool you should be ready to go.
