My band recently had Shine drums reach out to us about a possible endorsement and I'm wondering rather or not we should take the offer.

Drum companies offer "endorsements" to every single band just to sell their kits.

"Hello,
My name is Barnes and I’m with Shine Drums Artist Relations Department. I would like to speak to someone from the band (either the drummer or management) about the possibility of working together and the current drum endorsement situation for the band."

Does that sound like just trying to sell their kits?

Ask the guy from Shine questions. Find out what he see's you guys doing together or if there's anything you have to do in order to have this endorsement.

I think we are gonna talk to him today, I'm hoping it goes good, we were in the middle of a local drum endorsement but its been almost a year and we still havent gotten the kit but I dont think anyone signed anything. He won't give the money back cause he spent it on his hospital bills so we are shit out of luck with that it seems. Im really praying it doesnt cause any problems with Shine.

Yes, actually it does.

if they offer the endorsement, it's not a bad price, if it's the "sponsorship" it's like %10 off.. You will have to sign a contract regardless, a lengthy one at that.

How?

How?

Have you ever talked to a salesman before, let alone one who's able to send mass messages like that? If it were "hey I keep hearing about your band from all of my reputable friends and want you to be with our company so bad that I'm willing to make your kit at cost and not make commission just because you using our drums is going to bring in a lot of sales" is something to look into. At best you'll get 30% off unless you're already booked for substantial tours in the near future. The mark ups on custom kits are extremely high and getting bands to spend 30% less is still getting them to spend $3k on a drumset.

I've dealt with this kind of thing before and its never been like this. This actually kinda seems "legit" to me. But i'll wait till we actually talk to him to decide that. I know we've dealt with a horrible custom drum company before, we haven't gotten the kit and its been almost a year and they won't refund the like 2500+ because he spent it on his hospital bills or some shit. So i'm really hoping this turns out good.

Our drummer recently toured with a band that toured with some of the bands on there roster so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it.

what drum company is it and who's the name of the guy screwing you over? this is the kind of stuff that should be posted in the musician forum. this will spread and the guy will go out of business hopefully....even tho it sounds like he already did

I believe it was "Outlaw Custom Drums" but I tried to check and it looks like the myspace page was deleted...

You wont have to sign a contract for a drum endorsement with shine. Like I said they offer to almost any bands. Just how recording studios message bands and go "Hey we LOVE your music, come spend your money... I mean record here!"

hey man, had Shine and SJC reach out to us with the same exact pitch. Essentially what they do is offer you a discounted kit like everyone said. Don't get your hopes up. The only way they'll actually give you a free kit is if you're really doing big things. One of my close friends Jake is on SJC and he got a free kit from them simply because he plays with a girl who is on Radio Disney and is best friends with the Jonas Brothers and all that. Don't mean to be a dick, just wanted to give ya a fair heads up.

you rarely sign endorsements for musical items. Im with SJC and theres no contract. Although I will say every artist i've talked to that plays shine doesn't like them that much.

One of the bands that my band plays with regularly is sponsored by Shine drums. The sets sound great and from what i have heard, they have great customer service for their artists. As with anything of this sort, talk to their rep and make sure its something you want but i hear good things about the company.
