See, again, when people call cats out on their own bullshit, these cats often happen to be heterosexual. Interesting.
Here's the deal: Being something other than hetero is an insult because of the cultural belief that being queer is "bad" and makes them subhuman. It's not the ideal identity of the dominant culture and therefor, the deviation that reinforces the norm.
So these "funny little jokes" are also a lovely little form of oppression in their own right. There's more to it than you're acknowledging. The fact that you're claiming I'm "exagerating" a very dangerous belief that's manifested in a seemingly innocuous joke is part of the way this shit continues. Don't be lame. You're a kid, you know nothing but what you've been indoctrinated into. When you argue back, and you will, you'll be wrong.

I do. He's 15. What is one of the major institutions/agents of socialization? School. On the micro scale, the family. Children are forced into adolescence; which is an industrial revolution machination meant to prolong childhood and keep kids, well, complacent and dependent as the need for farm hands and laborers decreased.
It's not because of his age, per se, but what is done to kids to keep them, well, kids.

Am I generalizing or using correlative evidence to suggest certain things?
Yes, I think 15 year olds can critically think. No, I don't think it's encouraged in certain instances, especially when looking at the functions of macro institutions. Yes, I think their ability to do so is hindered because of this. Yes, I don't think there's a large level of kids who actually know why using non-hetero identity as an insult is damaging. Are they capable of it? Yes, but to do so, you often need to know the foundations of why it's something to look at in different ways. That isn't being given.
When I was 15, there were a few kids who wouldn't use "gay" or the f** as a pejorative. They said "that's homophobic," yet didn't really know why. Those reasons (which are many, deep, and rich) are not given easily to anyone, let alone kids taught to be dependent, taught that the epistemological nature of education is infallible.

Yeah, your right- I will fight back because I'm not going to be talked down to by anybody, and, anyways, being accused of only knowing what I've been indoctrinated into is pretty deemening and a false accusation none-the-less.
Yeah, being queer isn't the ideal identity of any culture, I understand this; and my jokes on said sexual attractions and tensions aren't trying to offend anybody or label anybody as a subhuman (even though they may be), there just jokes that have been worn out so much that they begin offending certain people. It continues, it won't soon end, and as far as I'll be concerned they are jokes, and will remain jokes. No matter whether that lovely little form of oppression follows, I know I'm joking and I couldn't care less about anybody's sexual preferences. What's demeaning is your cute little jokes perpetuating the notion that being queer is somehow an insult, that it's less than being hetero, which is an extension of the matrix of oppression and the bullshit hierarchy based on ascribed status. Yeah, that's fucking demeaning. Don't pretend like you've just been victimized here.

They're not "just jokes" and you clearly don't "understand this." Are you deliberately trying to offend or call anyone subhuman? No. I wasn't deliberately trying to be xenophobic when I called a lady a "Pollock" when I was 7. I learned that it was a joke. That the term was just a joke aimed at Poles. Turns out, it wasn't. Turns out, that "joke" had some weight behind it.

Sure, if you ignore the entire, traceable, measurable purposes of adolescence and the institution of school, but since I'm not in the habit of ignoring that, no, I don't think I'm being condescending at all.
Show me the concrete proof that being queer is less than being hetero (sexual attraction is, in part, also socially/culturally constructed).
Now, take any soc class and they'll point you toward the myriad studies, books and published treatises on adolescence, how it does, in fact, keep kids in an extended state of dependency and susceptibility to the dominant ideologies and how school does, in fact, help to hinder critical analysis. Yes, it's not as surprising to see a 15 year old blindly following dominant ideology, with all that considered. Sure, they're still capable of doing so, but it certainly isn't nurtured, in fact, it's the opposite.
But yes, teens can do this. I'm sure there have been quite a few that have.

I contradict my intentional means in this sentence. Yeah, if situations like this were more thoroughly thought through then social inequalities would be diminished, no doubt, but since a vast majority of the worlds population is as ignorant as they were first born into- the likelihood of this happening is slim to none, or would occur in a yet undefined time.
I rarely make jokes like this, but I can't really say that a small joke like that could have that large of an impact on a community.
As a matter of fact, last week in school we disscussed the demeaning term of 'retard' and how it affected 3 percent of the worlds' population daily; haven't used or thought about the word until today. Really sad and touching to hear some stories involving the hurt behind the use of the word.
Until my eyes are actually opened to the demeaning term of 'gay', I can't say I'll understand where people come from. It was a lame joke with no intentions of offensiveness.

and now, choosing to call out ignorance, which is an extremely harmful thing, is not "blowing that out of proportion." I can't say this definitively, but I'm almost certain you've never thought of the reasons why this is a problem before I even mentioned it. You were confronted and you became angry and indignant.
One more time; your joke was not innocuous. It's a direct result of the ideological perspective that heteo is the norm, hetero is right and everything else is a deviance. You weren't making it in some ironic way. You were using it as a throwaway line like every other goon who says "yeah, well you're tots gay! Ha!" It wasn't even clever. Lol. Kind of unrelated, but I have to disagree with you on some points of the sociology and school argument and here's why.
Granted, yes, schools do hinder the branchong-out of adolescent's maturity, leading to a more clique-based society in our youth; however, there have always been precocious adolescents in our society and, if history truly does repeat itself, then yes, there always will be. Because of this, there will always be people who lead others away from cliche fads. There will always be children who are obsucre and persuade others to do the same. People will find their niche, and others will always follow; that is not to say that there is no obscurity within our youth's social structure, which seems to be what you are saying.

The devil's greatest trick was convincing everyone he didn't exist. Socialization, dude.
I'm not being passive-aggressive. I'm being very abrasive. Do you know anything, or do your teachers drop some reference to something and you get horny to prove you know something without actually knowing it? You're like the kid who learned a new, big word and wants to throw it around without actually knowing what it means.
I don't need to to make my joke
Good. Go with that. Refrain from making them.
I don't care if [anyone] think it is funny or not.
Clearly.
edit: only read the first and last reply didn't mean to come off so harsh, but still don't tell me what I know and don't know, I know plenty.
I'm going to tell you what you do and don't know.

Lol. Kind of unrelated, but I have to disagree with you on some points of the sociology and school argument and here's why.

I just read a really cool anthro report that refutes this.
Children, being small, were often invaluable navigators and coordinators in hunts for food. In fact, adolescence, as I mentioned, was essentially a creation of post-industrial lack of a need of work. That clique thing is, in fact, a crude representation of value, status and competition.
They just opened and it was a thing.
In Mt. Pleasant?? If so, this could be great news for me.

Yep. It's great. I'm going to get fat.

Where at?? (it'll definitely contribute to the fatness that qdoba already provides me)

Sure, if you ignore the entire, traceable, measurable purposes of adolescence and the institution of school, but since I'm not in the habit of ignoring that, no, I don't think I'm being condescending at all.
I'm not trying to defend the dude, it's just that tone I take issues with.
Show me the concrete proof that being queer is less than being hetero (sexual attraction is, in part, also socially/culturally constructed).
Why would I attempt to prove something so obtuse and completely untrue?
Now, take any soc class and they'll point you toward the myriad studies, books and published treatises on adolescence, how it does, in fact, keep kids in an extended state of dependency and susceptibility to the dominant ideologies and how school does, in fact, help to hinder critical analysis. Yes, it's not as surprising to see a 15 year old blindly following dominant ideology, with all that considered. Sure, they're still capable of doing so, but it certainly isn't nurtured, in fact, it's the opposite.
But yes, teens can do this. I'm sure there have been quite a few that have.
Sure, I can see that.
As a matter of fact, last week in school we disscussed the deemening term of 'retard' and how it affected 3 percent of the worlds' population daily; haven't used or thought about the word until today. Really sad and touching to hear some stories involving the hurt behind the use of the word.
True, this applies to a lot of things besides homosexuality, it's a good point to bring up. If you just look at the changes in the past 50 years, prejudice has diminished greatly, or at least, has become a lot more subtle as opposed to blatant discrimination. I don't believe it will take that long, relatively, for society as a whole to become more aware of the inequalities against gay people as well. There's already been significant progress, and I'm not claiming that it will go away completely, because stereotyping and prejudices are inevitable, but at least it's an ongoing effort. And jokes like the one you made, as harmless as it may seem, propel this sort of progress backwards because it's seen still as socially acceptable.
Until my eyes are actually opened to the deemening term of 'gay', I can't say I'll understand where people come from. It was a lame joke with no intentions of offensiveness.
"Gay" is not a demeaning term, though it is frequently misused as an insult by some people. That's why it's a problem.

It's not only limited to adults. How many cliques have broken the borders of adolescents and made their way into adults? A lot. Some are even adult-only. Therefore, that sort of thinking is either flawed, or you must admit that the workplace, or people in general, have the same effect as public schools. I understand what you are saying and all, but I think that precocious and talented children get less credit than they deserve. Case in point, many avant-garde artists begin their work as adolescents. Many CEOs begin their work as adolescents. Many of our world's greatest minds began their intellecutal and creative growth in their teen years, despite the odds brought down on so many by our schools. Therefore, your logic is not bulletproof as Stephenie Meyer has tried to show.

This. The more that people who are oftentimes discriminated against separate themselves from society, the more they make discrimination more evident.
