probably because it takes more than 2 award winning players to make the playoffs....

Obviously, but if he is that high on a Marlins prospect who probably won't even be up with the club until at least July/August.. I don't see why he would be so down on the rest of the team. If the Braves make the playoffs then Heyward is going to have to have a huge season and it's just makes more sense to pick Heyward as NL ROY if you think the Braves are going to win the WC.

easy. ROTY and MVP are INDIVIDUAL awards and have no bearing on how their teams do.

i don't think the braves are going to win the wildcard anyway, so your reasoning is all wrong.
me picking stanton over heyward has absolutely zero to do with which teams i think will win their respective divisions and the wildcard. that's not to say i don't think heyward will be an absolute beast. they're just predictions.

I misread your NL WC team so yeah it doesn't make any sense and even though I hope that you are right about Stanton, I don't expect to see him before September call ups (even though he could obviously be called up earlier depending on need)
easy. ROTY and MVP are INDIVIDUAL awards and have no bearing on how their teams do.
I agree that ROY has little to no bearing on how your team does, but do you really think that MVP is totally an individual award? I don't think you can consider somebody a legit MVP candidate if they are on a sub .500 team.

it's absolutely an individual award. look at what happened in 2003.
alex rodriguez won while he was on the rangers who were 71-91 and finished last in the west that season.

That is one example, where one player went miles above anybody else.. what about last season when two division winners won MVP
You can't say that team record has absolutely nothing to do with winning MVP

2nd in the NL East is not sub .500.. I know it doesn't have to be a division winner but I do believe that the only way Hanley will ever win MVP is if the Marlins win the NL East because of their overall lack of national exposure (0 total games on ESPN 2008, 2009, and now 2010)

I am very aware of that but he wasn't even close to Pujols and I don't see how he will get anywhere close to him this season unless he goes down with injury.. and that was a year when Hanley won the batting crown, career high in RBIs and the Marlins finished 2nd in the NL East. He also benefited from Rollins/Reyes down seasons (for whatever reason).

The Pirates are gearing up for an upswing. I'm not saying they are going to be competing for anything significant, but they have promise. They have some good talent this year. If all else fails, the pitchers could just start dropping acid.

Haha yeah. I hear you. We definitely do have a better team this year than last, but with our cheap owner refusing to spend any real money on players, we won't ever have a chance to compete for the playoffs. I'm just waiting for them to break .500. Hopefully it will be by the end of this decade.

Yeah I am an idiot he won't get called up what was I thinking there. Just read a lot about him how he is suppose to be a top shortstop. I was going to put Gordon Beckham but I think he has played enough games he isn't considered a rookie anymore. Yeah, I just think he could use more work building up his arm strength considering he's already had a TJ surgery. I mean even if he stayed in Philly, he wasn't going to be in our rotation until at least the summer. He's yet to pitch AAA yet.

He was on pace to lead the minors in strikeouts before being promoted. Plus, don't forget, he had TJ. Doing what he did in his FIRST full season back is especially awesome. Plus his velocity was down slightly if I remember correctly. He had been 93-95 hitting 97. I think he was sitting more low 90's last year.

Often, not directly correlated, but pitchers see the same, if not higher velocity after tommy john surgery. He was hitting 95-97 last year with Reading. It's not like he was out there having Cole Hamels rates in terms of strikeouts. He went from 10.8 K/9 to 7.1. Sure, some of it could have been because we not trying to strike out everyone in AA (and that was part of it) but he was also facing better lineups. He had better K/9 rates post surgery compare to before. In terms of strike out ability, he wasn't even their best talent. That was Trevor May or Jason Knapp (before traded).
J.A. Happ also led the minors in Ks. Doesn't always turn over to the majors.

I wasn't sure if he was hitting as high as he used to. I stand corrected.
I have a feeling he wore out a bit. He'll come back with a vengeance and strike out over a batter per inning in AA this season. Mark my words.
Drabek has better stuff than May. Rather easily IMO.
Happ's stuff isn't in the same league as Drabek.

I know Happ's stuff isn't but I'm saying Happ did lead the minors in Ks before. So he obviously had enough stuff to dominate those same leagues.
Drabek does have better stuff as May is more suited as a future closer. Drabek will likely be in AAA. If Gillies ever makes the Phillies, he'll be an easy fan favorite. Guy is a fucking speed demon.

Why? He just signed a 3 year extension
Gillies could play left in 2012.
Gillies in left is wasting his talent. He's an 80 runner with a 65-70 arm.

Actually yeah, Victorino or Brown would move to left. However, I'd prefer switching Victorino and Werth right now. Signing Werth and finding a home for Ibanez.

I'm assuming that Posey plays over Molina by midway or less of the year,Sanchez is healthy at 2b, and they pick up somebody at the deadline. Their rotation has the chance to be ridiculously good. Plus they have a decent bullpen and weren't too far out of it last year.
I'm not a Giants fan by any means but I could easily see them making it and could be really scary in a short series.

I don't know, last year the Giants went 88-74 which was the 5th best record in the NL, and two of the 4 above them were NL west teams. So 3 out of the top 5 records in the NL were in the NL West. Legitimately good division.

this thread lovesss roy halladay. don't think lincecum's been mentioned once, ouch. though i would probably pick halladay as well, even as a giants fan.
people in this thread would probably be picking roy halladay for cy young regardless of league. he is one of the more dominant pitchers of the last 10 years. he's put up GREAT numbers in a very difficult division on a not-so-great team. now that he's been traded into the "weaker" league it's so easy to predict that he'd absolutely dominate and win the award considering past success, the switch in leagues and the favorable, run producing team he's on.
had halladay not been traded to the national league i'm sure there'd be a lot more lincecum choices.

Exactly, him going to a good team like the Phillies from a bad team like my Blue Jays is only going to make him better.
I'm excited to see what he can do.

I still think Lincecum or Carpenter win the Cy Young.
• AL East: .271 BA, .447 SLG., 204 HR
• NL East: .265 BA, .405 SLG., 140 HR
Not that big of a fall-off considering pitchers bat, besides home runs. Obviously Halladay's numbers should improve, but I'm still not sure if he'll be a 20 game winner.

Zach Greinke wasn't even a shoe-in to win the Cy Young this year when he DID win it. King Felix put up quite a battle. Could've gone either way...
I don't think Greinke is going to win it again easily.
