View Full Version : Everything Is Too Cold, But Goddammit, You Are So Hot

In my opinion most intense, emotional, minute I've ever heard in a song.
I am of course speaking of the last minute to the wonderful epic that is This Room's Too Cold, from the multi-talented, Early November.
Ace Enders being one of my favorite musicians of all time, it's great to hear an extremely intense "unmanipulated" dry-throat scream.
And could it have better placement on an album?
Ending the journey of one of my favorite musical stories. It's unbelievable how much Ace Enders has grown, yet his old work with Early November still holds that emotional backlash that some artists search their entire careers for.
So now I ask you, AP community. . .What quick, minute-long verses have affected you in this same way?
Doesn't have to have any screaming or any parameters, but what the fuck out there makes you feel this way?
Just curious : )

The thing that kinda sucks about these songs is that after so many listens they kinda become
blasé
I guess inserting an accent changes the font? weird.

Good call. And I couldn't agree more with your second comment. It will never hit you like it did the first time.
I remember when I finally decided to give The Room's Too Cold the descent listen it deserved. My jaw literally dropped.

The last minute of "Red Sky" by Thrice is the most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard. No lyrics or anything, just amazingness.
Also "Family Tree" by Prawn, starting around 2:45.

I love this song, one of my favorite TEN songs, but others...hmmm:
1. Happiness by The Fray
I havent listened to this in a while, but the first time I really listened to it I was in a car with the guy I like's crush and he was was in the car behind us. He was probably the most intense crush I've ever had, like for once I liked someone not by their looks but by the way they think and how they view their future, he was very philosophical and such. Everyone was tired, we were on our way back from a leadership training camp and I was the only one who wasn't trying to sleep. I put some music on because I havent had time to do that in the last 3 days, and that song just came on shuffle. The first line of the song was "Happiness is just outside my window". I looked out the window and saw him, and that just hit me. The rest of the song progressed to how this "happiness" is destructive and you just have to accept things the way they are and not let your life revolve around it. As awesome as he is, he's probably not going to let go on the typical shallowness of guys his age and pick the token pretty girl no matter how dumb and uninteresting she is. I feel really silly talking about the situation, but that was a moment where music provides a sense of...I dont know what it is, it's just amazing. Kind of like an epiphany and feeling like you belong at the same time.
2. The Widow by As Cities Burn
My parents had a stable marriage and they never fought with eachother, but they have a lot of disputes with me. So our conflicts weren't like, Mom vs Dad but more Mom and Dad vs Me. Despite that, I can feel the emotions sensed by the songwriter for some reason, especially in the bridge...where it goes "But I believe there's something here to be learned of grace, because I can't help but love you even with a heart that breaks like the promises that you made." They've broken many promises on me, and sometimes when I hear that, it strikes something in me.
There's heaps more: a few by Brand New, Mew etc and I could go on for hours explaining each one. Usually it happens when the moment is right, and I relate more to the feelings that the writer is conveying in the song rather than the music itself. It's a really good moment nonetheless, like it gives you hope and meaning and everything, I can't even describe how amazing it is when moments in music really catch you.

Funny my second choice was going to be the middles section of "Today Has Wings." That part makes me feel like I can fly.
