Im Not Scene

Went to this show tonight. Didn't really care for the opening bands, although The Christmas lights weren't horrible. Good old war harmonized really well.
But on to Circa.
Anthony made mention a few times to it being their first show back in a while. They had a few fuck ups, which they themselves pointed out. Anthony actually said "It's better to have a few fuck ups, than a lot of fuck ups."
They played a balance of old and new music. They played three songs from their upcoming album. One was "Get Out", another was entitled "Strange Territory" or "Strange New Territory". I didn't catch the name of the third song. I loved the way that Get Out sounded live. I enjoy the record version, but it translates extremely well on stage. Strange Territory was exactly what the title suggests. It had a 1/2 beat to it, which was completely different than any of the atmospheric sounds Circa usually employs. I liked the chorus a lot, but really didn't care for the music during the verses. Maybe it will sound better on wax. The third song was back to a more familiar Circa, but still not the same format they've used during their first two albums which is absolutely okay by me. I enjoyed it.
I thought it was a funny choice of an encore, choosing to cover Nirvana. I don't know which song, never was a Nirvana fan and they didn't say which song.
Anywho, Anthonys vocals were on point. I have seen them twice before, and I must say that this was his best vocal performance. They thanked us for showing up and letting them rough out the edges of their performance after it's been missing for the last year and a half.
It wasn't the best show I've ever been to, but it was definitely enjoyable. What pissed me off is that I saw a flyer that said The Chariot was playing in the same town on the same night. I almost would rather have gone to that show because of the opening bands at this stop. Just my personal opinion!
