Worst Concert-Related Injury

So after getting roughed up a bit at the Every Time I Die/Four Year Strong show last night, I got to wondering what are some of the worst injuries people have suffered while at a concert. I had a crowd surfer's foot hit my eye and I have a cut underneath it and a few scratches around it as well.

So AP, what's the worst injury you got at a show?

at a Blink 182 show on the Dolla Bill tour, the pit opened up right next to me so I was on the edge of it and some kid got pushed to the ground and slid into the side of my knee making it bend an awkward way. I had to wear a knee brace for a couple weeks after that...sucked.

During MO's show I got punched in the spine, probably because I called this dude's girlfriend a whore but whatevs. I also got kicked by a crowd surfer and passed out during SOTY at warped tour, but the worse injury came from othe guy slapping me in the chest in order to wake me up.

the singer for Touche Amore whipped me with the mic cable across the stomach on accident. even with a button up and an under shirt on it still stung like crazy and left a nice red mark for a couple of days. otherwise, i've been real lucky. done plenty of stage dives, been dropped plenty of times, and had dudes much larger than me land on me but i've come out pretty good except for some soreness. we'll see what happens after i see converge though. im expecting bodily harm.

At Taste of Chaos in 2007 I got smacked in the face with a camera during Saosin's set and my eyebrow split open. I had to get carried off once they pulled me out of the crowd because I had bled into my eye and couldn't see where I was going. Very lucky I didn't need stitches.

About four months before that happened, Jordan from New Found Glory hit me in the (other) eye with the mic during "Hit Or Miss" and my eye almost swelled shut.

With the amount of shows I had gone to before those incidents, and the amount I've been to since, I'm almost surprised those are the only things that have happened other than some bruises.

Take It Back played at a house behind this church near me last November and this kid was in the circle pit (though he was the only one in it practically) and he'd ram into people at every curve. I happened to be standing at one of those curves and the kid ran into me and somehow hit me in the forehead in the temple area. Hurt like shit for the rest of TIB's set.

Umm, I don't know if this counts as an injury or not, but I had a pretty sweet asthma attack at a concert between bands once... I had to have my friend drag me out of the "pit" (it was an open area, so yeah.) and dig my inhaler out of my bag. I was laughing while I was wheezing my lungs out because everyone around us was FREAKING. OUT. They thought I was going to die or something. I also had some kind of attack-thing right before Jimmy Eat World... Security lifted me and my friend out and I went and sat on this water cooler on the side next to the stage, then we went to the bathroom. I found out that if I would have gotten sick, like, ten minutes later, I would have been sitting next to Hayley Williams on that water cooler. Go freaking figure.

Edit: After looking at that again, it makes me seem like an asthmatic loser. Awesome.

as for mine... back in 2003, was seeing some shitty hardcore band, got sucked into the pit, knocked down, hit the floor face first, boom, no more front teeth, plus an awesome black eye and the right half of my face was swollen for like a week. had to get permanent crowns put in.. best show souvenir ever. ahah

and i turned my ankle once dancing at a reel big fish show. hello air cast.

Now AFTER all the bands had played, my buddies took me to the hospital. Apparently I'd gotten a concussion.

I was walking by Escape the Fate and Craig called for a wall of death so I figured, "hey why not? let's fight the crime of bad music tastes." So I go into it and right when he screams go, this girl has a seizure and so I'm stuck, standing there having to listen to them.

Someone was crowdsurfing and they had a chain or something that caught my hand. Don't wear that stuff in the pit.

Ohh and Pouyan from Scary Kids was swinging on the rafters at this venue a few years ago and kicked me in the face then crowdsurfed on the girl infront of me and she fell back so I had him and her on me. (It was a small venue)

I've never actually been hurt at a concert, but I the only one I've ever felt like I was in danger was when I saw Converge in april 2008. Some dude got knocked down behind me and then someone flew into me and I fell backwards over the guy on the floor and landed on my hip. Generic synth-hardcore band opening for We Came As Romans, it was their Ep release so they sprayed silly string everywhere to be 'fun', but then when the two-person pit started one of the guys slipped on the silly string and fucked up his ankle. His foot was bending the wrong way and everyone could see the bone. They played another complete song before they stopped and turned the lights on the place. It was a small show so pretty much everyone in the room saw this guy with the most frightened look I've ever seen on a human being sit in the pit for three more minutes before someone called an ambulance. It was very sad.

I usually just chill in a calm area and enjoy the show. Don't usually get too involved in anything... I did have a LARGE crowdsurfer fall on me during Underoath @ Warped Tour 2009 that kinda hurt. Nothing bad though

punched in the eye at a small Confide/Agraceful/Memphis May Fire concert by one of the first bands. They came out after they played and moshed... the guitarist punched me so hard in the eye I couldn't see out of it for 3 days. Everyone was asking if I was ok and I was just laughing. haha..

Once at an Alesana show, one of my friends got kicked in the head by a crowdsurfer who was dressed up as the"nurse/joker" from "The Dark Knight". Next time the crowdsurfer went up, he got hit in the 'nads.

some chick next to me in the pit had pepper spray that went off in the middle of some band. i was really confused as to what had happened and thought i was dying for a while. this whole section of the floor cleared out while the band was still playing and they were really confused. i have to remember who it was. i felt like shit for the next couple of days too.

Went to see NFG, four year strong and a day to remember with a broken toe and during literally the first song someone stomped on my foot. I wasn't going to miss the show so I stood there the whole time in pain. When it was over I couldn't walk to my car so I had to do like a shuffle drag foot thing. When I got home there was blood in my sock and the nail had broken off. Took a year to fully grow back. It was worth it. No regrets.

i haven't really gotten badly hurt, which is good because i'm an enormous baby. but, some kid was head banging intensly in front of me, using the stage rail thing as help, and went way forward and then backward at full speed and his head hit my head super hard. then, like ten minutes later, some girl stage dives and her foot hits me right in the forehead. i couldn't walk straight out of the venue, it was lots of fun.

this thread seemed like an appropriate place to tell this story even though its only semi-related...but on friday at harvest of hope, dear landlord's set (which was one of the most fun i've ever seen) almost had a serious disaster. they were on a side stage where, earlier in the day, there was no barricade, but during we are the union a bouncer punched a kid for stage diving, so they put up a flimsy-ass metal fence with no base as a barricade. the second dear landlord started the first song, everybody went nuts and the barricade collapsed on the people in front of it. the band kept playing and finished the song, causing people like me who weren't right up front to not notice the people trapped. i didn't hear about or see anybody who got seriously injured, but after this a bunch of cops came to the stage to run security. they were not very nice. i watched a kid get dragged out by the neck for not moving when the cop asked him to. because he couldn't hear him. because he was 5 feet from the stage. it just turned into a bunch of scared/angry/out of their element cops against kids trying to go nuts, neither side liked the other, and i'm surprised things didn't turn out worse than they did. anywho, yeah, cool story. at least they got through the set. and it was fantastic. moral of the story, go see dear landlord.

was front gate at an FOB show (ik bring on the hate) and almost fainted cuz of dehydration, than went back in the pit and during saturday when wentz comes into the crowd i was 2 feet away from a high five than got kicked in the face by a 30 year old Asian guy moshing, and busted my face open, and than another time at warped i was front gate and this asain chick behind me grabbed my testicles to try and get me to move
moral of the story for me:avoid asians at concerts

Yeah I heard about that, but sadly I didn't believe them when they said they would come back and I threw away my ticket lol... I might be going, if I have the time/money.

When I saw Against Me! at Warped Tour 2008, I was front row, right in front of Tom. They were the second to last band of the day (Norma Jean on the other main stage after them), so the crowd was huge and had a crazy second wind. Lots of crowd surfers, so the security spent a good time of their set on the riser on the other side of the barrier, blocking my vision. I crane my neck to the side a bit to see and next thing I know a crowd surfer lands right on my hand bashing it into the corner of the barrier. My friend helps me up and I was bleeding everywhere. The security guy took me to first-aid and they said I had to go the hospital. Went to the hospital and waited for 5 hours or so and got 4 stitches (which took about 5 minutes). Also, the crowd surfer who landed on me took my hat when he ran off (it fell of my head when I got knocked down).

tl;dr
I went to the hospital and got 4 stitches around my eye (about a centimeter over and I would've been fucked) from Against Me's! set at Warped Tour.

i haven't had any which is amazing. i'm like 100 pounds though, and usually it's grown men stage diving so i just dodge/hide behind the person in front of me haha. i'll probably have at least a bruise or something at deathfest though with all these people going.
