Park's (http://www.absolutepunk.net/park) latest Lobster Records (http://www.lobsterrecords.com) release Building A Better _______ has debuted at #176 on this week's Soundscan Indie Album Chart. A big "congratulations" goes out to Park!

sadly...the indie album chart only takes about 800 albums sold to make it on...
Not very "congratulations" worthy :( Actually, very disappointing.

People, selling over 700 albums in one week is pretty amazing. Despite the unrealistic ideas you get from the soundscans that are posted on this site, there are tens of thousands of records released every year and most don't even scan 50 a week. You need to understand that all of the numbers posted on this site are the exception, not the rule. It's pretty easy to sell thousands of albums in a week when you are on amazing tours and you get tons of video play on FUSE. Considering Park doesn't have a booking agent and is touring like crazy to promote this album (drawing 100+ kids everywhere on their own), that is pretty impressive. Especially considering all of the politics involved in getting a good support slot on a solid tour. The more people buy the album the more available it will be and even more people can pick it up.
ps. Lobster has been promoting this record a bunch and has done a good job getting the word out so far.

people have been blinded by the likes of fall out boy, taking back sunday, thursday, underoath, selling alot of records. It is really hard for bands to sell lots of records peoples expectations these days are ridiculous.

i went to their record release show the day the album came out and there were only like 40 people there, max. they didn't even headline the show, they played 3rd of 4 bands.
it was sad. i hope this album does well.

That wasn't my point at all, I think it's great for them to sell X amount of record, unfortunately we don't know how many that is.

hahaha yea i always laugh at that too. i mean i understand you thinkt hey can be huge, but there are sooooo many bands out there that have a sound that could make them huge. 85,000 records is no joke.

Yeah, this show was in a crappy venue on the very outskirts of LA on a Tuesday. That's about 2,000 miles from their hometown. Just because they play a show on the day their CD is released doesn't mean it is their CD Release show. Thay actually haven't had their hometown CD Release show yet. It's on Aug 11th and I'm sure it will be PACKED!
well, she quoted "congratulations". which means she meant it ironically or she's quoting someone else.
this is the only cd i bought this week.

You, my friend, are crap. Why rip on another indie band? There's nothing wrong with Park or GCH, it's you that sucks.

ok im a park fan and think they are nice guys and liek to see them play but it is disapointing 1.they do have abookign agent, hes just not part of an agency, they torued with the starting line for example, they do get on decent indie tours. 2. its their 3rd full lenght 3.they are on a somewhat bigger indie label (who obviosuly doesnt push them and its sad) hopfully this was their final album in their deal and they can move on to a better label

Yeah, they do have a booking agent - but over the years, they tour a lot, but they also tour ALONE a lot. bigger tours would be a huge driving force for this band. (shit, i can still remember seeing them with moneen once upon a time)
2. its their 3rd full lenght
So? It may be the third, but it's still amazing, and they're just taking their career at their own pace. this point seems pretty irrelevant. Oh no! my bad, they're not blowing up after 3 studio works - sorry they're not Cartel or Hit The Lights buddy.
3.they are on a somewhat bigger indie label (who obviosuly doesnt push them and its sad) hopfully this was their final album in their deal and they can move on to a better label
Lobster is only a "bigger" indie because Yellowcard got huge, and now Over It is getting huge. Look at the rest of their roster- Mock Orange, Staring Back, Buck Wild, Joystick, Whippersnapper, Anchors For Arms, Days Like These, Lorene Drive.
And I'm sure lobster is pushing the album as much as they can. Lobster has always struck me as a label that would do as much as possible for a band they signed no matter what. I mean fuck, They've stuck with park for what, 5 YEARS now? That's fucking devotion man. If that's not supporting and helping a band fuckin grow, I dont know what is.
Every Park record release shows progress, and every album has a signature sound that only Ladd and his crew can come up with. So seriously man, dont say lobster isn't doing enough to support Park, because Lobster has done NOTHING but show them support.
and to be completely honest - If they are done with their deal with Lobster, I hope they renew it. I dont see a single label out there that would be a better fit for this band to mold into.

Park does not have a booking agent and has not had one for over a year. Yes, they did have a booking agent when they did touring with larger bands (The Starting Line, Moneeen, Yellowcard, Boys Night Out) BUT that was a years ago. I know for a fact that their drummer Miles books all of their shows. They haven't done a support slot since mid-2004. Lobster does push them a bunch. I seem to recall seeing many full page ads in Alternative Press devoted only to Park as well as banners on tons of websites. They don't have a video right now or commercials, but Lobster did those things for Over It "Silverstrand" and I'm sure they will do them for Park once the CD has been out for a couple weeks.
