The Decemberunderground tour ran from April '06 to May '07. I get how it can seem like they don't tour much though. They did no touring at all during '05 and '08, as well as the first half of '09. They usually tour for about 12-18 months on a new album and disappear for 24 months after that.

seriously, if you hate on new green day, and don't hate on new afi, you're an idiot.
Not really. See, I'm a fan of both bands entire discographies, old and new. I think 95% of the "hate" given towards new AFI is irrational and moronic. Even though they're no longer as fast-paced and aggressive as they used to be, their music remains inspired, provocative, well-written, and each album is very much a departure from the last both sonically and lyrically. Whereas even though I personally enjoy AE/21CB Green Day, I completely understand why many don't. Their trademark formula can get very stale. If you hate new Green Day because it's "too mainstream" or "not punk anymore", you're an idiot. If you can't get into it because it sounds rather regurgitated, well, I understand.

well thought out point here....but I have to disagree on the hate towards AFI, because I personally feel it's well deserved. AFI had an all ready long established career on the under-ground market and had built a very loyal/established fan base with people who loved their fast, intense, and somewhat hardcore sound....imagine being in a coma for the past decade and waking up to hear December Underground and telling someone that this is AFI...or if you showed them the video for Medicate where Davey looks like a complete tool bag...you'd have to ask "what happened"
Now I have no HATE for AFI...but the fact that Davey simply cant scream anymore and has the band as a whole have basically thrown off any ties to their old hardcore/punk roots, the hatred is certainly understandable.
Green Day's sound remains somewhat similar to their earliest beginnings...with 21 being probably their most "rockish" out of all their albums, and yet still pretty Green Dayish. They still continue to play old hits and toss in a few obscure pre-warning songs on a constant basis. Is the eyeliner un-neccesary? Yeah, lol, i have no defense on that. But they've always been a highly marketed/large stadium band since the beginning. A lot of Green Day hatred is based on "it's cool to hate green day" or "i like their old stuff better"...while i think AFI hatred is based on "this isnt the same band anymore" "i cant believe how corporate davey is".

I agree with just about everything you said about Green Day. There's certainly a lot of morons who jump on the hate train just to appear elite. I just meant if people get tired of their formula sometimes, I can sympathize. They're still a good band though, always have been.
As for AFI, they simply didn't want to play that style of music anymore. They all grew up in the 80s and were heavily into not only Black Flag, Misfits, and Minor Threat, but also The Cure, The Smiths, Joy Division, New Order, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Love and Rockets, etc. Davey and Jade can never stop talking about electronica (especially the 80s synthpop they grew up with) and Hunter is a diehard collector of soul/R&B vinyl. Their music tastes have always been extremely eclectic, and after making five records that were heavily hardcore/punk influenced (though they were already saying "We're not punk or hardcore" when BSITS and AOD came out) all of them were ready for something new.
They have definitely not "thrown off any ties to their old hardcore/punk roots". Sure, on the new albums, it's no longer present. In every other aspect, they're always paying homage to their old days. They just played the Phoenix Theater two months ago, the venue The Days of the Phoenix was written about, a place they played at frequently throughout the 90's. The PHOENIX THEATER. No other band with constant radio play ever performs there. They're also playing Slim's in San Francisco this month, another small venue they used to play frequently. On the Crash Love tour, they've brought Gallows and fucking CEREMONY as opening bands. They play multiple songs from The Art of Drowning and prior every single night. At some recent tour dates, they've even given fans a choice of what old mid-90s song they wanted to hear.
There's also this.

Ultimately, when it comes to new releases and evolving, I think "sticking to your roots" is a bullshit concept, enforced only by lazy-minded music fans. If a band is constantly playing old stuff live or paying tribute to the old stuff somehow, that's great. But the suggestion that any type of artist always has to maintain an element of their original style in every single project for the rest of their creative lives in order to keep their core fanbase happy, yeah, I find that incredibly stupid. AFI reached a point where they didn't want to write hardcore/punk music anymore after releasing five albums and endless EP's in that vein over the course of a decade. All four of them were ready for a change, so they did it. If they continued to play that style of music against their will for the sole purpose of keeping the fanbase happy, that would have been very shameful, and, when you think about it, not far from "selling out". Sure, it wouldn't have been for money, but they still would have been allowing exterior influences affect their creation. Writing music for the masses is stupid. Writing music for a particular fanbase is stupid. Artists should create the art they think is good, and if others like it, great. If not, fine. And there is zero doubt in my mind that this band has always done that.
And no, I don't think Davey's Morrissey-inspired look makes him look like a "tool bag", nor do I think he is "corporate" whatsoever. Anyone whose read the lyrics to the new album or even has basic knowledge on the topics it covers knows he is very much the inverse of "corporate". A suit doesn't change that. I guarantee if you suggested to Davey face-to-face that he has become "corporate", he would burst out laughing. I couldn't help laughing myself at that suggestion.

The AFI EP was released in 1998 on Adeline, despite them being on Nitro at the time. Adeline also did the vinyl pressings of Sing the Sorrow and Decemberunderground, Dreamworks/Interscope only did the CD's. So they were never actually signed to Adeline, but they have several releases with them.

These are two of my 9 year old son's favorite bands. You can take that as a slam to the bands for appealing to a 9 year old or you can take that as I have a really cool son! But if they come within 2 hours of me then we will be there...I better save up now though, Blink was $100 a ticket so I'm sure this will be similar. The shows I normally go to are usually under $20!

This is actually typical of any big time rock band, it's ridiculous, but people pay it.
No dates yet? I hope this comes to Denver, but probably won't seeing as Green Day & AFI both played big shows here within the year and probably wouldn't sell as well this time around. I've been a Green Day fan since the Pop Disaster Tour but didn't see them for again up until this past tour. It was probably one of the best shows I've seen. Green Day played for three straight hours and did a great setlist. Only thing I don't like is how BJA stretches songs out to 10 minutes just to do extended "heyyyyy ohhhhhs" several times. But they don't lose energy the whole way through, they keep it coming.

Hopefully I'll be able to make it to this... Didn't get to their last tour, unfortunately. I love 21st Century Breakdown... I don't get all the hate on it, I really think it's a fantastic album... Then again I didn't really listen to them a ton in the past, just a little here and there. Anyone who expects them to sound like they used to need to give up, really... They're older now, they don't want to write Dookie again.

I've got a friend who is going to come with me to this tour (providing it comes to a reasonable distance) who isn't a big fan of Green Day's newer stuff, post-Warning, but he just really wants to experience Green Day live. I'd say that's the attitude to carry if you've ever enjoyed any of Green Day's past work. They still play a great deal of older stuff, and they are unbelievable showman. If you've been a fan of Green Day at any point of their career, you should see them, end of story. They won't disappoint.
I think American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown were both fantastic, each in their own way. American Idiot, in my opinion, is a brilliant effort especially. To each his own, though.

Really disappointed, figured it would be a much longer tour. Can't afford to get tickets this weekend, so it looks like I'll have to pass on this tour. If a release happens to strike me at the right time this summer, maybe I'll end up hitting the Mansfield show. Don't really care for the idea of Green Day at an ampitheater, though. I find that they work far better in an arena setting.

Staying far away from this tour. Neither band has released a good album in years.
AFI's last album was shit, Green Day's was mediocre. I'll still go to hear totalimmortal, dancing through sunday, anything from DOTF or black sails, and then maybe just maybe green day will tone down the 21CB and include more american idiot (i don't care if it's new, in my opinion it's one of their best albums) and even dookie.
as far as the rest...yawn. miss murder can suck it.

Actually, I paid $69 with no fees. I've got the receipt to prove it.
I'm stoked for this tour. I saw Green Day this past summer and they played for 3 hours. It was just such a great show. I saw AFI more recently when they headlined a radio show. They put on a great show, unfortunately for them the crowd kinda ruined it. So it will be great to see them together.
PS: "Comfort Dental Amphitheater". Just like Invesco Field will always be Mile High Stadium, Comfort Dental/Coors Amphitheater/whatever they're calling it these days, it will always be Fiddler's Green.

3Z1hYhrGdOc
I couldn't help laughing myself at that suggestion.
so great. agreed. all of this.

Just bought my PIT tickets for the Susquehanna show! Kinda shocked that I got them. $85 bucks is a hefty price, but I haven't seen Green Day since sophomore year of high school (unless I included when they played Good Morning America in New York)
Does anyone know why there are 2 different prices for LAWN seats?
There's a $35 and $20 for Lawn seats.

There's no difference between $20 and $35 lawn seats. When the $20 ones sell out, they'll increase to $35.
Also, Susquehanna Bank Center's $20 ticket just went on sale -- about an hour after the other tickets. The $20 seats were previously shown as "sold out".
I got lawn seats for Susquehanna since it was only $20 and there weren't any service fees.
That's an amazing price.

Knowing Philly, the lawn may sell out.
But I'm pretty sure you can sell your lawn seats for over $20 since I know that will be selling out soon and Ticketmaster will have to sell the $35 ones.

pretty fucking gay that the prices are pretty outrageous. i saw green day last august and i paid $55 i think. this time i paid $70...i'm just gonna tell myself that the extra 15 is for AFI. by the way.... AFI > Green Day. GD is one of the best live bands out there, and they're a pretty amazing band in general, but there are probably only about 4 or 5 bands in the same league as AFI. hopefully the irvine show doesn't sell too fast, i'd like to go to that too. but it might be about 2 months before i have the money. i don't care if i'm in the top, i have a close seat in san diego, i just want to witness this greatness more than once.

between the last 2 times i've seen AFI, they played torch song, beautiful thieves, end transmission, too shy to scream, medicate, and i'm trying very hard to be here. and i know they played veronica sawyer smokes at some of the shows. i'm hoping they throw in cold hands, sacrilege, or okay i feel better now. i'm trying very hard to be here was amazing live, so was medicate and beautiful thieves. torch song is definitely my favorite on the album, it's a shame they didn't play it the last time i saw them (bamboozle). crash love is definitely worth listening to, it's super solid. some songs more than others, but it's a fantastic album in my opinion. it's got kind of an 80s feel to it. might take a few listens through to grow on you. as for green day, they played a lot of 21st century breakdown when i saw them in august. my current favorites on that album are east jesus nowhere and american eulogy, both fantastic live btw. i also like before the lobotomy and !viva la gloria! they didn't play either of the viva songs on the last tour though. i'm hoping both bands will be shaking up their setlists for this tour. i'm pretty sure green day will, they seem to play a large variety of songs, and a ton of them. they played for 2hr 45min-3hrs when i saw them. afi is starting to fall into the nasty habit of just playing the singles. they haven't played anything from black sails in years and they don't even play days of the phoenix all the time anymore. they just play songs from sts, du and crash love for the most part, with 1 token old school song. i'm hoping that changes.
gusta0117

ive been listening to 21st century breakdown the past few days. the singles aside, its definitely not as catchy as their past albums but some songs are good. they could have easily cut out five or six of the songs and made a much more solid album.
as for AFI, i started listening to them as sts, so that is good news for me, i never dipped into their older stuff

I didn't think Green Day would be playing really long sets on this tour since the shows are all outdoors where there are usually curfews. They're playing Fiddlers here in Denver which is somewhat notorious for its early curfew, hoping to get a long show like we did last summer.

Girl's Not Grey
Leaving Song Pt. II
Silver and Cold
Dancing Through Sunday
Miss Murder
Love Like Winter
The Missing Frame
Beautiful Thieves
End Transmission
Medicate
Maybe toss in "I am Trying Very Hard to be Here" or, if we're really really super lucky, something old. But doubtful.
Because no one at the show who likes Green Day would have known the band's older, better material, and we're all dying to hear the worst songs on the band's latest albums

i think it's amazing how well green day manages their shows. The fact that they got bigger didn't change the way they did things, instead they are making the best out of their success, being able to play a 30 song set, bring fans on stage on multiple songs, play covers, talk to the crowd, pay for service fees for some shows. Although most bands 'sell out' and change, green day managed to absorb it and use it to their advantage. I find that remarkable.

if i somehow ended up with tickets to the irvine show, i would be fucking stoked to see them play burnout, paper lanterns, give me novacaine, 2000 light years away, and when i come around. seen green day once on the pop disaster tour, and four times on the american idiot tour, 3 being within one week. didn't see them last year and am still not tempted enough to shell out the money to see them this year. hope they end up playing chain reaction or something and tickets aren't too ridiculous, i think it's possible.

Denver show was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! I was having an insane time at the show so I couldn't recall the full setlist. They played Murder City, which I see hasn't been played a lot lately. They played Cigarettes & Valentines twice in a row, for the purpose of them recording a live album. I got to see Give Me Novocaine and Letterbomb, which was awesome for me. They did a great job of mixing up the setlist from last summer's show here.
Only down sides were AFI starting 10 minutes early, so we missed the first 2 1/2 songs trying to get inside the venue. A 15-20 minute rendition of Shout was almost too long. I've also determined Billie Joe needs new stage tricks. Because I've had enough "hey ohhhhs" for two lifetimes.

fuck you for getting holden caufield. damn, i wanted that song so bad
I'm pretty sure Murder City came right after Holiday, and then Novocaine and Letterbomb. Davey sung on Holden Caufield which was right before Geek Stink Breath I think (these two songs followed Cigarettes & Valentines).
Also, Billie Joe played a small snippet of "Olivia" Last Night on Earth.

This has to be one of the best shows i've been to.
3 hours, a shitload of songs, and overall great entertainment from the guys in green day.
