alright, well. this was one of the worst (not in a bad way, just not that good) concerts I, personally, have been to. but, it wasn't just the bands' faults. the venue didn't have air conditioning, and if they did, then it was barely on. Chicago has been in a heat wave, and last night, should have been the last night of it. Anyways, it was extremely hot.
Doors: 5. Show: 5:30.
This Providence took the stage a few min. late. They played 7 or 8 songs. about 50/50 between their last album, and songs from their upcoming FBR debut. I've heard their last album, and didn't really think much of it, and that's how I thought of their performance. I just thought they were generic, and sound just like every other FBR, or wannabe FBR band. They have a "dance" song that's heavy on the bass and is supposed to get everyone moving. Lame.
Next was Cute Is What We Aim For. Now, I've read all the crap on here about them. And my views really changed with a lot of it. I saw them at Bamboozle, and they were actually pretty good. Especially for no one really knowing any of their songs, everyone was into them. Tonight, a lot of people were there for them. Give them one year and they are going to be the next Panic! @ The Disco. Shaanti's voice is excellent live, and he's a really energetic frontman. Don't doubt this band. They actually derserve a lot of the hype that's been given to them for what they are. Except, here was the problem. They played like 8, 9 songs. Well, around song 6, a minute into, it didn't sound that good. It sounded god awful, and they all just stopped playing. They forgot their parts. I've never seen this happen before. So they asked the crowd if they should start over, or play newport living. Newport living one. They didn't play lyrical lies or teasing to please. "energetic set".
Hit The Lights. They're way too popular to be on this tour, apparently. Everyone there was for them. I loved them at Bamboozle too, but this set was very "poppy". They again, only played around 8 songs. I hope that when they do get big enough to have their own headlining tour, they remember their roots of their ep's because some of those tracks are far superior to songs such as Speakers Blown and The Call Out.
Paramore. It took them a half hour to set up the stage, which, if you know what the beat kitchen looks like, there isn't much of a stage. And this is the tour where the matching uniforms are unleashed. The guys are in all black, with red roses. Hayley took the stage in a white idk, "butter churner's" outfit with a lightbulb lantern. You'll understand what I'm getting at if you see pictures or see the show. Easily, this was the band to see, and completely worth the ticket price. I don't think Paramore's cd was all that great. It had some standout tracks, but Paramore can make their lesser songs better live. They're just "one of those bands". It was so hot, that they slowed things down in the middle with two acoustic tracks. Their "My Hero" cover from the Superman soundtrack, and I believe the next one was "Franklin". I could be wrong. My friend got one of the set lists, so if I can, I'll try and post that. I know they played 13 songs. Ended with Hallelujiah, and encored with My Heart. They have a piano intro now, and added piano parts to some songs, and little interludes. Definetely an entertaining performance. Only disappointment was they went back to playing Emergency without the screaming. Not a big deal. Go to this tour to see Paramore, and Cute, once they get their act together.
