I think the last thread I created was that popular Selena Gomez and the Scene thread, so I might as well prove that I'm cool with this one. Seriously, though, I really like The Gorilla Variations. It's a far cry from my typical pop music, but there's something really pleasant about this album. When I want to chill to some really pretty background music/sounds, this is usually where I go. (I guess it originated as a soundtrack to some art piece about gorillas or something, thus the name, but then evolved into a whole album.) The artwork is nice, too:

I'm creating this thread to recommend it to others who might not be familiar with it, but I also have the self-centered agenda of wondering what some similar albums would be worth checking out, perhaps also by one of the people behind this project.

I thought it said "Fenn O'Berg" at first and I got excited. But this is interesting. I like it.

Oh, you want artists that are similar to this? Well Four Tet, Fennesz, and the Books are the first couple that I think of off the top of my head.

EDIT- And I'll add Gas, Kammerflimmer Kollektief, Loscil, Oneohtrix Point Never(?), Pantha Du Prince, Tim Hecker, and William Basinski.

It sounded really familiar upon first listen in that, "I've heard this somewhere before" way. But it's pretty good. Balmorhea is sort of similar? I don't know. That's the feeling I get from it.

There was a Four Tet thread (Yours? Vinh's? Todd's?) that I popped into a while back, and I liked what I heard, but I haven't taken a deeper look into them yet. I'll have to check them and the other two out. Thank you. Glad you're enjoying this.

Definitely Vinh's. And I added some more artists to that list.

I like Rounds and they have a 2010 release, but I haven't got that yet.

There Is Love In You (his 2010 release) is definitely one of his weakest albums.

I might have mentioned them to you before.

Woah, yeah, you did. Sweet. Thank you.

Bump?

Bump because I'm listening to this right now, and I feel like randomly proving that I totally like cool music, too... sometimes... Anyways, I still haven't checked out anyone Brian recommended me in this thread yet, besides I think Four Tet a little, maybe. Yeah, I suck. I'm aware. I'll get on that eventually. I promise.

Shit, I forgot to download this. I guess we're even then, Tim?

The song you posted is pleasant, but doesn't do much for me. I guess I just feel like there's not much to it. For some reason it makes me want to listen to Ravi Shankar. Is that weird?

You forgetting this one and me forgetting a bunch of yours? Sure, sounds good.

I can see that.
