Date: 8/2/2006
Venue: Tremont Music Hall, Charlotte, NC
Bands: Mae, The Spill Canvas, Inkwell
First of all, I would like to say that the venue that these bands played at is one of the hottest places I've ever been to in my entire life. Anyways, I got to the venue early for a meet and greet with Mae and asked them some questions about the new record and if they were playing any new songs that night. They indeed did play a new song that night which I will get to later on.
The first band up was Inkwell who are from Orlando, FL. They played about 6 or 7 songs of their CD "These Stars are Monsters" and a couple of an older CD that was not put out by 111 Records. These guys are crazy live and they put on a pretty fun show. I would definitely pick up this CD if you haven't done so, it's quite excellent.
The next band up was the Spill Canvas. The temperature in the venue continued to get hotter and hotter and I began to lose more and more water. Anyways, the band played mostly songs off of One Fell Swoop including "Lusta Prima Vista", "Staplegunned", "Natalie Marie and ICC", "Self Conclusion" and some other songs I can't remember. They also played a new song which I can't remember the title of but it sounded very good. The only song they played off of SACC was "All Hail the Heartbreaker". I think they played around a 10 song set and played about an hour.
Anyways, the crowd went nuts as Mae took the stage for a very long and fulfilling set. THe only problem was that I was so dehydrated at this point that I almost passed out. The band played a new song called "Crazy Eights" and also played "Where the Falls Begin". The rest of set drew heavily from "The Everglow". "Anything", "Suspension", "In Someone Elses Arms", "Everglow", "Mistakes We Knew Were Making", "We're So Far Away" and "This is the Countdown". From Destination Beautiful they played "Embers and Envelopes and a few other songs. I vaguely remember their set because I was recovering from dehydration during part of it. In all, it was a good concert althought the heat really ruined it for a lot of people.
