it's good that you did a search, and i applaud you for that, but i still think you could've asked this in the official ava thread instead of making a new thread, unless it's like completely dead or something, i wouldn't know. some people on here are anal about threads like these that aren't completely necessary.

eh yeah. who wants to sift through 20 pages of text and spam that isnt even on topic anymore.... rather have small threads that die quick

i listened to the flight of apollo. the transition it sets up into young london is wicked sexy. i really liked the echoey intro and bridge, although it def could have been shortened. i mean the song is repetitive and sounds like a lot of their other songs... but hey, no one every criticizes Blink for doing that.

The one thing that annoys me is the long instrumentals at the end of the songs. Maybe it is because I am used to them at the beginning so it is weird at the end.

I personally really like it, I think my favourite so far is Letters To God Part II, I just love that intro guitar riff. I also like Epic Holiday and Young London, but the whole record is solid.

It's not a massive step away from what they have done previously; but then, by the same token, I don't hear anything else that sounds really remotely like their music. People say its repetitive, so are many other bands.

I say, if it's not broken, don't fix it.

I totally disagree, and its letter TO god part II, unless Tom has gone completely schizo by now (in which case it would be "from god")...he does have a song called Hallucinations...and he does believe in aliens....hmm
Ah well, could work either way ;).

But i was expecting it to be more like the original. It doesn't sound ANYTHING like the boxcar song :(.

did you really expect it to be like the original? AVA doesn't sound like BCR so to expect that song to sound like BCR is just wrong. Especially with the direction AVA took on their previous record.

Love the album. A few songs at the end are kinda boring but Shove/Young London/Epic Holiday make up for it. Another great AVA album.

I'm impressed that the free release process is working so well. It's the first step towards the whole "modlife" music generation.

As for the music, it all sounds pretty much the same, very similar guitar riffs and Tom's voice sounds very whinny.

Its not blink, or even boxcar for that matter but its still something to listen to

I'm glad Modlife is working out for them. I'm a premium member myself and I look forward to when they do live streams of concerts, seeing as I probably wont be able to see them live. Especially if I'm not moving to Cardiff this summer..
I think LOVE could have been so, so, so much better if they just put a bit more effort into it or hired a pro producer. The melody lines in most of the songs seems recycled along with the guitar riffs, and it gets boring.. I like the album though, I just think it could have been much better, cause it has alot of potential.

That has been the complete problem with AVA from the start. They need a producer. Although still, I do like this album.

yes. I guess Tom is just too stubborn and wants to do everything himself. With this album I understand that they didn't have a producer cause they were paying for everything themselves, but on the previous two records they were on a major label who would have paid for it.

I can understand perfectionism, but you need to understand when you need an outside ear to hear it and say how about this as well/instead? It's what can push a good song to a great one half the time. Exactly, I wouldn't ever put out an album without a producer if my band were indeed big enough to put out albums on a major label.

true. I would never go into the studio without a producer either (on a major label of course). "Love" could definitely use a pro producers ears. Too bad Tom can't see that. Just imagine how fucking incredible "Love" could have been with a great producer who understand the whole AVA thing. So awesome. But then, there's the money.. haha

Better than I hoped and I listened to it a lot more than I thought I would.

The music, songwriting, instrumentation was really good (especially on the first half of the album) but I still can't get past Tom's voice to listen to a lot of AVA. IMHO, he just doesn't have the pipes to carry this type of sound.

My favorite AVA song, interestingly enough is probably Rite of Spring. I-Empire is the only album I really got super into. Like the singles they've released plus a few other random songs.

From the new album though, i gotta say I like Young London, The Flight of Apollo, and Hallucinations so far.

love this album.. People get caught up in how much better it could be.. Tom bs.. ava vs. blink bs.. Its a solid album that's inviting and at the same time not overly ambitious.. to me it's just angels and airwaves doing their thing, its sad that that thing isn't what some people want and they feel they gotta bitch about it to absolutely everyone!

Listen to the album with canalphones that actually go into your ear. Make sure you get the ones that have a high bass frequency since everything sounds so much better. With these you can definitely hear all the wonderful engineering that was done on this album. I heard a lot of stuff that I didn't hear with the normal shitty headphones. Also make sure you listen to the entire album in a completely dark room with one candle lit. It's the little things that make a lasting album.

Completely agree. Apart from the candle bit. I don't own candles.

But yeh - you can hear so many sounds that go unnoticed even on decent speakers. At the end of Young London, in the outo/intro-for-the-next-song, there's a kind of woosh sound in one ear, then the other. Sounds awesome through in-ear headphones.

I only said the candle part because in an interview a few years ago Tom said to listen to WDNTW in a completely dark room with one candle lit. haha, i just thought it was funny to add that in. closed eyes is much better for me to concentrate.

I really disagree, and really wish he wouldn't have named it that. It really doesn't go with anything Boxcar did. I don't get why he named it that.

Anyway, I didn't think the album was that great. It wasn't terrible, and way better than I expected, but still not awesome. A lot of it just sounds like everything else they've done, with just a few standout tracks. It's probably overall better than I Empire, but still nothing I want to listen to all the time.

I feel like there's just a few decent songs off of every CD. If they would have just skipped all of the songs that sound exactly the same and skipped the ones that just aren't good and just released one CD with the good songs on it, I would like them a lot more.

I feel their albums have gained filler as they progress. I think Whisper is borderline perfection for what it is, I-Empire had a little filler (was Jumping Rooftops absolutely necessary?), and Love was about 1/3 filler for me but also contains some of their best songs. I love Matt's keyboard work, it made LOVE feel like an absolute whole.

I agree that a lot of songs sound similar. A person has to spend a lot of time with particular track before they become distinguishable, however, I do think that started to change a little on LOVE, possibly because I felt they'd eased off on using delay and phaser effects all of the time, so a lot of riffs started to stand out more. The only example of typical AVA phaser being used I can think of is on Epic Holiday, and that song is strong enough to benefit from it.
My friend Izzy said that Angels & Airwaves were awful the other day, before continuing to state that Blink 182 were rubbish. Could have smacked her. I wouldn't mind if she listened to good music, instead of dubstep, or god awful bland over-rated bands like Arctic Monkeys.
