Monsters of Folk was a huge disappointment to me...
Despite the fact that I've never heard of them my vote went to the latter because of this.

Traveling Wilburys. Tom Petty, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lyne all making music together. Does it get any better than that?

I'd say this sums it up perfectly. Not to mention they sounded like an actual band, Monsters of Folk didn't feel cohesive enough as group.

Exactly. Thats what bothered me about MOF. It's like they all contributed their own parts separately and they don't mesh well together at all.

I'll have to check stuff out to see. I just cant stand Tom Petty at all. Most overrated artist to me out of all the overrated artists out there

Click the + at the left of "End of the Line" and then click play at the bottom. Petty sings some of the verses, but after that it's great. And it's not shitty Petty-style music.
I think Handle with Care has less Petty if you still don't like that one.

Eh...i think Led Zepplin takes that title...unless we're talking solo artists. In that case my vote goes to John Lennon.

John Lennon was not that great except for a few moments out side of the Beatles. Fact. The Beatles were fucking amazing. Also fact. Led Zeppelin is in fact overrated. Third fact

I'm not looking for an Internet fight or anything, I'm honestly just curious as to where Petty being overrated came from as he's my favorite artist and I literally know no one else that listens to him. And I say that not in the sense that people don't listen to him because he's bad but because he's almost become sort of become underground. People outside of his normal fanbase tend to not even know he still puts out CDs, yet every show he plays sells out.
I mean, in terms of bands from the 70s that still put out music, Petty's name is rarely ever in the media. He's never been built up as one of the greatest bands (like the Stones or Springsteen or Aerosmith, etc) and he tends to have a very dedicated fanbase, as he's hasn't really been worried about branching out for well over a decade. He plays the music he wants as opposed to belting out the same album year after year.
