When I say music software I'm referring to DAWs (ProTools, Ableton, etc.) and software instruments.

So, how do you feel about it?

I've tried, but I'm too much of a n00b to figure out how to get it to work.

There's a decent amount of free stuff that can be downloaded without breaching copyrights. Paying for these softwares is supporting the music industry as well.

I'm not against it, i guess, but i've never used them.

It really shouldn't be, but I would if I really wanted to.

I'm in the middle to be honest. That software is so expensive. I have Abelton 5, which only has four tracks, so not much to work with. I received it along with my Line 6 TonePort. I'm looking for new software.

i think it's okay if you just use it for personal use, but if you're making money off it, then no

I concur with this statement.

To be honest every bit of software I have had up till now has been downloaded, but I will probably be buying myself a macbook pro soon and may end up purchasing logic or ableton when I do.

Edit: Actually I guess I did kind of pay for cubase le when it came bundled with an audio interface, and I also sometimes use free software like reaper which I would recommend to others.

there are some cheaper options. Mixcraft is a program for PCs that's pretty much the Windows equivalent to GarageBand. When I bought it, i think it only cost around $65

Eh I don't understand what's wrong with it? Is it because before bands/artists used to have to have to go to a studio/producers/etc. or what? :-S

Too expensive not too, but companies like Pro Tools found a way around that with the fact that you need a board to run it anyway, so eventually downloading programs will be useless unless you drop 1300 on a good board. native instruments is fucking ridiculously priced. all i'm getting essentially is a disc with some paper in a box. if you don't know how to use the stuff then no harm done.
