Lately I've been obsessing over over the SYG's early demos from the deluxe edition of Mutiny. Any suggestions for stuff similar to this?

-a_dNZQPpIM

I love all of their stuff, but these songs just capture their energy so well. Any other suggested music with super catchy vocals, positive lyrics, and the occasional city-leveling breakdown?

Why would you want a band that sounded exactly like SYG? Those bands all have a similar vibe in which they have positive lyrics and lean more to the hardcore side of things while remaining fairly poppy and accessible. As the original poster said, bands "...with super catchy vocals, positive lyrics, and the occasional city-leveling breakdown?" All of the bands I mentioned are apt.

if you think have heart was a pop punk band you're a fucking idiot. also show me a polar bear club breakdown.

Not once did I refer to Have Heart as a pop-punk band. Folks need to chill the fuck out.

thanks everyone! my computer actually crashed the day after I posted this, but I'll try to check out as many of these as possible in the next few days.

of everything mentioned on here, I'm already a huge fan of NFG and the wonder years (+1 to drevans18 for the washington square park reference), and pretty fond of polar bear club, this time next year, fireworks, daggermouth, and all or nothing (I thought about including most of these bands in the original post, but didn't want to be too broad, haha).

I like what I've heard by have heart, but I just have a hard time getting into bands that aren't melody-driven. that being said, have heart is probably my favorite hardcore band, although my exposure to most of this genre is admittedly pretty limited.

really looking forward to checking out such gold, saves the day (I know, I'm way behind), lifetime, paddock park, bangarang, strike anywhere, and all the others.

Um pop-punk=/=poppy hardcore. I would definitely say Have Heart is of the melodic persuasion if not poppy. Our definition of what's "poppy" may differ. I'm not thinking of it as saccharin sweet, but catchy as fuck? Yes.

This.

Too bad Paddock Park is the most generic band out there, they didnt even write their own music, ADTR's old guitarist did, they are a shittier and more watered down version of them.

Really? Not one member in that band wrote a single lyric?

They might have had a hand, but there was a big controversy about what happened, and one of the reasons Paddock Park is basically dead in the water.

Paddock Park was never anything great, they were just good to listen to to kill a few minutes. I guess it's a good thing that ADTR is shitty and watered down, too, though.
