He literally has one of the best voices in music. Not in the scene, not in the mainstream - just music in general. So good.

The video from January, where he played his respective parts and looped them together, sounded catchy; something akin to that angular Disco pastiche Post-Punk stuff from the early '00s. This performance sucked. Stump is a performer I clearly believe to live-or-die by the studio, which I'm fine with. If he's no longer a part of the raucous and dumb FoB, which is made by ridiculous live shows (which I love, by the way) and white kid angst, then I have no qualms with him playing "grown-up songwriter" in a blazer and t-shirt making dance-y grooves that are predominantly studio-sculpted. I just don't have a reason to see him in live.

This is an interesting opinion. I like that you're recognizing that what he did in FOB and what he appears to be trying to do alone have different merits and functions, but can be enjoyed in separate respects if you acknowledge that. Maybe your comments stand out to me because I don't anticipate that most of his audience will be quite that discerning. It will be cool to see how people react to his reinvention.

I can't agree with that. Without even giving this much thought at all, I'll name some singers that are better than him: Marc Broussard, Brandon Boyd, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Maxwell, Matt Morris, Robin Thicke...

That list can go on for awhile. I'm a very big fan of Pat Stump, but to say he's one of the best voices in music is just crazy.

It's not, because he's arguably better than everyone of the names you just listed. Robin Thicke? Really? Stump has such a versatile voice and one of the widest ranges I've heard in a long time.

I guess just the current state of popular music, I don't really know how to simplify that more lol sorry if it's vague.

It's not that I don't think he's good, because he is. He's just being compared to some insanely talented vocalists in every single genre. If you're saying he's one of the best in general, then I have to respectfully disagree.

Nah, I wouldn't say you're wrong. This really all comes down to personal preferences, and some people might like his voice and some might not. It has nothing to do with being right or wrong. Like, Brandon Boyd is one of my absolute favorite vocalists, but I have a few friends that find his voice annoying. I still think he's fantastic, but they never will. Like I said, it's all about taste.

If you honestly think he has a bigger vocal range than Robin Thicke, you're out of your mind. I'm not even a fan of Robin Thicke and am a big fan of Pat stump, but the fact that you would try to argue that he's better than any of those singers is just crazy. Objectively, that's just not right.

Objectively Robin Thicke has a greater range. His range is far cleaner and his technique is, according to any voice teacher, healthier and better. The ranges of every musician I mentioned are cleaner and less strained than Pat's. I love Pat, but he strains when he hits the high parts and he doesn't make clean transitions between notes.

Yeah, I knew he always wore hats and what not. I just didn't know that was the reason why. He's been wearing hats since TTTYG and he was only like 17-18 then. Regardless, no one should be balding in their twenties.

Still have hope for this record, though. His first live show was bound to be a little rough. Once he gets his act together, it'll come through. And he always delivers on record, at least.

I have trouble bringing myself to say he's a poor live performer because his acoustic performances are always spot on and, often, arguably better (in my opinion [which shouldn't have to be stated, because it would naturally be my opinion by virtue of ME saying it, but I don't want the Objective Police to arrest me]).

Those are virtuosic parentheses, my friend. And yeah, he is good acoustic, but when he's all up and energetic, he can't sing worth shit. I'd rather he sat still and just let the eight wonder of the word emanating from his throat keep the people entertained.
