Oceana ‘Clean Head’ coming May 2010 on Rise Records.
In February of this year Oceana entered the studio with producer Matt Goldman in order to record a b-side EP to their previously released full length album, ‘Birtheater’.
The Undesigned spent the day with the band and discussed the upcoming EP.

Was never a fan of this band when they were breakdown-y and the same as all the other bands like them, but Birtheater was a pretty interesting and decent record. I'm interested to see what the new stuff sounds like.

i still can't put my finger on this band. the vocals in that clip remind me of Mew.
please tell me their not recording any of their new material w/chango studios. those guys can't produce a decent record to save their lives.

After listening I'm not really sure what to think, Sounds completely different, Almost like that's a different band.

They did not re-record Birth.Eater, the new EP is four brand new tracks.
I had the pleasure of hearing them in their entirety last night and I am very very stoked for people to hear this music. It's out of this world.

I would be alright with no screaming, actually. I REALLY love his voice when he gets aggressive...more of a yell-singing than a full fledged scream. It only happened a few times on the last album, but when it did it was golden. Either way, this sounds very promising...I learned to LOVE Birtheater after repeated listens.
Stoked. Song clip sounds awesome.

They did...for about 6 months. They're back now, and I'm glad.

Was it all singing? What aspects from Birtheater did they put into Cleanhead? That demo sounds nothing like Birtheater lol.

Clean-Hand is a b-side album from Birtheater (i.e. songs that they wrote for the album but felt they didn't belong on it)

I heard that the guitarist-Jack Burns left. I wonder how this will effect their touring right now and future touring. Jack was an excellent guitarist but I hope they find another member so they can continue on. I'm so excited to hear the new EP! From the few minutes I heard it sounds breathtaking!

I really like his voice on the new track. This EP could be interesting. I could definitely go for less of a metal approach.

Woolgod is a damn good track. This is a much better sound than the music they shat out before. The breakup/reformation was exactly what they needed. Color me excited.

I think they're trying to turn Oceana into that TROME project Brennen and Denny had (still have?). Who knows though, maybe I'll like the other new songs on the EP or I might wind up liking Woolgod eventually, but right now, I don't really.

It's a really good song. I'm sure it'll grow on you. I doubt all the songs will sound like it.

Wait, I'm forgetting this is a B-SIDE EP, so that means they originally wrote these songs for Birth.Eater right? That makes my last post sound stupid now since TROME started after Oceana broke up.

That's what they claim. Could have just been the lyrics that were written.
I'm really stoked on this album. I've been a huge Oceana fan since the days of Keith being the singer/screamer of the band. They have come a long way with Brennan leading the pack. Some new member changes and all to go along with that. Unfortunately, I have never seen them live thus far, but guess I'm gonna have to change that lol.

Im not down to write a full out review but I love Clean Head. I thought Birth Eater was a good fucking album but this new record is awesome.
So glad this band got away from shit like 'The Tide'. They have way too much talent and musical depth to just fall into that generic category.
