Anyone applying to/ or know anyone in Osteopathic school? I'm in the process of applying now. Half the time I'm pretty confident of my chances of getting accepted ot a school..then the other half of me is like..theres now way...oh well. Not really sure if I want to do primary care or not.. I sahdowed a DO who does nephrology stuff and it was pretty cool.

eh...I dunno I probably won't bother with applying to DO schools...I mean, u guys know as much as MDs and work as hard as em too...but u get paid a little less and the respect for a DO is much less...just go for the MD.

how's ur GPA and MCAT?

ehhh most of my friends want the "MD" in their name , but the whole ego thing doesnt really matter to me.

My mcat isn't competitive enough for allopathic med school and I promised myself I wouldn't torture myself over taking it again, so the DO schools im looking into accept people with my score (its pretty average for DO schools) so I'm just gonna crossmy fingers and hope I get in at least one school. - I don't know, I can always go into what ever specialty I want so who knows.

cool cool. I don't care much for the title either but with my parents it's a whole different thing.

what's allopathic med school? I'm guessing it's just what we normally perceive as Med School...I know that a lot of people who apply do let's say max 15 applications...5 of which are to DO schools. how many DO schools u applying to and where are they?

yeah allopathic is regular med school (i actually didnt know that until a little while ago)

my good friend wants to apply to both, but his parents are like "no no no you must be an MD" even though its really the same. I applied to ... 15 schools I think, haha. I went online to find out average mcat scores for osteopathic school, and I just applied to all the ones I thought I had a chance at.

My dad who knows a bunch of DO's said that most of them are DO's cause they pretty much just wanted to be a doctor (and couldnt get into med school) ..so who knows.

no i'm not an MD, the difference between me and radiologist is I take the actual x-rays and perform exams and a radiologist will read them. There is however, a job like that for Radiology it's called the Radiologists Assistant, much like a Physicians Assistant, basically you do the job of the Radiologist for less pay and less respect.

ah I see. I'm guessing to be an RA you need a lot less schooling than an actual radiologist. That's the only advantage I see to a Physician's assistant...along with having a structured 9-5 job unlike MDs.
