Hey guys so i'm off to college next year, and i'm currently between university of vermont, and the university of rhode island. This may sound a little rediculous but one of my last deciding factors is the music scene in each area, mostly the punk/hardcore scene if one exists. So i was just wondering if anyone knew which area would have a better punk/hardcore music scene? Just cuz i plan on starting a punk/hardcore band in college and would like to obviously find members in the area with the same musical interests.
Thanks and help me decide i u can

Rhode Island would def be your best bet. but I'm not sure how thriving there music scene is, but your close enough to MA/CT/NY so that should help.

I'd go with RI, closer to MA so then I could see your shows.

The thing is that Vermont has something where kids who are into music can be in a certain dorm together, I thought that was pretty cool. But yeah i was also considering what you said xbuzzlitghtyearz

i go to school in RI and go to the shows u talk about, its pretty good. plus theres a lot more venues like at least three in providence, then u got worcester, and boston, hartford would be a stretch to make a trip for on a school night but the other locations are much more manageable and ideal, hope that helps. as for the people you could definitely search through this website and find many other people from many other colleges who may want to start a band with you. there are a lot more people at a lot more colleges to choose from if you went to URI so you would have a better chance of finding some band mates, maybe even me lol. PM me if you need any other information.

Thanks a lot dude. I'm now leaning towards URI a bit more now
Rhode Island has a great community/scene, with bands like Lightning Bolt, New Flesh and White Mice. Look it up, but there is like, a really great art/music/punk scene all together, I think localized in Providence.

CT and RI have a much better scene. Boston is dead lately.

rhode island's got a better scene.
but if you like vermont more, go there. speaking that i'm sure it can't be too far of a trip between both if you really want to see a show.

Not the hardcore scene.
Actually, that's true. Hardcore is the only genre that still remotely exists around here.

What other scenes used to be relevant in the area?

Pop-punk, post-hardcore, metal. It used to be crawling with local bands. Not too many of them were that great, but at least they existed. There are so much fewer local shows in the area lately, it seems.

If you're going to University of Vermont Burlington campus, there are a few venues like the 242 main and the Higher Ground around there.

I totally agree with you. When I was in highschool I would go to local shows every other day, and since I graduated it seems like they all left when I did. Members of bands went to college..genres grew stale..a few of the bands grew big, so much changed. Saddens me haha.

I'm from Providence and we have an awesome music scene over here with bands from here and also surrounding Ma and Ct cities like everybody's said. But not only that, Providence is honestly a great city in general, awesome restaurants, art, music. i love it
