Anyone else excited for this? If you ask me, Dreamworks is putting out the best animation that's not called Pixar right now (although I think Monsters vs. Aliens was their Cars...blah). Probably gonna do a HTTM Friday night but definitely plan on checking this out Saturday or Sunday.

It looks fun but I'm not sure if I'll see it in theaters or not.

I don't think it looks too great from the trailer. I never like anything Dreamworks animation studios puts out...well, except the first Shrek.

Dreamworks is the second best American animator but far from worldwide.

I'm excited for this movie, but other animation studios are catching up to Dreamworks. And no one can even touch Pixar.

Dreamworks is more concerned about sequels and producing movies like Shark Tale, Bee Movie, and Over the Hedge (which are all worse than Pixar's "worst" film- Cars- which still sits at 75% on RT).

Truth of the matter is though, I wouldn't mind working for Dreamworks, hahaha.

Saw this last night. It was really good. Not really worth the 3D price though. Still worth watching.

Just saw it. 3D was better than Avatar, in my opinion. ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE 3D. I know the year is young, but I'd be shocked if this doesn't make my top 25.

Anyone else bugged by the fact that Gerard and Craig had accents but no one else, and not even culturally accurate accents at that! I definitely loved this, visuals were great, did not like Astrid though

Just got back from the movie with my niece and nephew. They loved the shit out of it. I would've liked it more if Gerard Butler wasn't part of the cast.

loved this movie. i'd put it at an 85%. i'm still bewildered by the 97%, that's gotta be exciting to have a movie rated on RT like it's a pixar.

I don't see how this thread doesn't have that many posts. I watched this movie last night in 3D and it was so amazing. Could have easily been a Pixar production. I love Toothless! One of my favorite movies so far this year.

With the way people are talking about this movie, there's a good chance that this will be Dreamworks' first Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature against a Pixar film since winning the first one with Shrek in 2001 (which to me is a little weird, since Monsters, Inc. was better than Shrek, in my opinion.)
[Wallace and Gromit was produced by Dreamworks, but 1) wasn't made by the studio, and 2) wasn't up against a Pixar that year.]
Unless Toy Story 3 ends up being everything it could be. Then it'll be interesting to see what happens.

I mentioned this in the Best Song That Ends a Movie thread, but I thought Sticks and Stones by Jónsi was the perfect way to end this film and I'd love to see it maybe go up for Best Original Song next year. The songs at the Oscars aren't always terribly interesting so it'd be neat to have Jónsi possibly play there.

I went to see this after my shift one night and i figured it just be ok but damn was i wrong, this was suprisingly the best movie i had seen all year (until kickass). I dont think i have ever just sat and watched a movie with a big smile on my face for the entire movie.

Right there with you. This is better than Toy Story 3. Sadly that will mean nothing to the Academy.

Just curious: Why do you guys like it better than Toy Story 3?

Don't get me wrong, I love it, but I don't think I'd even rank it above Despicable Me. Third best animated feature of the year ain't too shabby either.

Well, to start, the animation is vastly, vastly superior. And I think it told a way more compelling story. TS3 was just more of the same (not a bad thing, I really love Toy Story 3, too). As good as the end of TS3 is, the last half hour of HtTYD was so exciting and so intense man. I just loved it.

And again, not to discredit Toy Story 3 or Pixar. But there's no shame to say that it may have been outshone.

Valid points. I need to watch HTTYD again because I only saw it once and in the theater when it first came out, so I hardly even remember the last 30 minutes.

If it wasn't for the last twenty minutes (everyone knows what I'm talking about) of TS3, I think How to Train Your Dragon would deserve the Oscar by A LOT.
