I think the title's pretty self-explanatory. Just review the trailers you see each weekend. I saw two movies this week.

TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY

The Grudge 2 - When did we start making sequels to bad movies? C-
Tenacious D & The Pick Of Destiny - It's been in development for awhile, but it's finally coming. This will be amazing. A-
Stranger Than Fiction - Really interesting idea starring Will Ferrell in what could be a very great movie. A
Gridiron Gang - So it's...the Longest Yard...with teenagers...and without comedy? Blah. D

THE DESCENT

Saw III - Could be great or terrible. Trailer looks badass though. B
Crank - I'm indifferent on this now. We'll see. B-
The Wicker Man - Looks like another cheesy PG-13 "horror" movie. C

The Departed: trailer was good but it didn't get me any more excited than i already was. although if i knew nothing of this movie before watching the trailer, i think it would have been much more effective B

Borat: i really like sacha cohen, but i've only seen a few episodes of his show. i think borat looks like it captures the show's kind of humor much better than the ali g movie did (although that one had some great moments). not sure i'll get to this one in the theater, but after laughing through the trailer, i'll definitely check it out on dvd A-

Smokin' Aces: had no idea of this movie's existence until seeing this trailer and consider me sold. you can't really tell if this movie's gonna be great or awful (and i get kind of a revolver vibe, which isn't a good thing), but joe carnahan's narc was great, and that cast is just awesome, so consider my interest effectively piqued. A-

The Amatuers: another movie i had no knowledge of before watching the trailer. to be honest, there's a good chance i might never see this movie, despite liking the trailer. jeff bridges is in his dude-mode here, which makes me laugh every time. the premise is a good one too and the cast is very good. that said, i'll still be waiting on reviews before making a decision B+

Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny: jack black is wearing a little thin on me in anything but supporting roles these days, but this is the part he was born to play. i've never been all that into the D, but i get the joke and it's funny about half the time (maybe less). trailer had a few laughs, but nothing that's gonna get me into the theater when this hits. B-

The Marine: this is a tougher one to review, because it's a movie i have no intention of ever seeing, and no amount of marketing is going to change that. however, for its intended audience, i think it's a pretty good sell. if the gay love story shit in superman returns put you to sleep, and you wondered why wolverine wasn't played by a wrestler in x3, you will LOVE this movie (considering i'm on an emo site, i kinda doubt that's the case though). for me: D for those who like their action movies dumb, loud, and dumb: A

Man of the Year: i can't muster up any interest for robin williams in comedic parts (rv) or dramatic parts (the night listener) anymore, and barry levinson's last movie was envy. so the fact that this trailer got some laughs from me and actually made me curious to see it seems like a minor miracle. the basic premise is "what if jon stewart or bill maher was elected president", which is sounding more appealing each day (hell, "carrot top as president" is sounding more appealing each day). looks like a possible globe contender, but don't expect any oscar nods. B+

The Prestige
The Fountain

Both = A+

agreed

Deja Vu - looks to be really good. With Denzel Washington and James Caviezel you can't go wrong.
I will say this one will be a fun movie, not oscar worthy but a fun movie. A-

Hugh Jackman is going to win an academy award next year. He is going to be in two movies that will most likely get nominated (The Fountain and The Prestige).

Also The Illusionist looks to be good as well. Edward Norton is always amazing and Paul Giamatti is on of my new favorite actors.

This should be a sticky. Good idea. Also, Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny will be freakin awesome. I'm a big fan of Jack, I can't wait.

Catch a Fire: we're starting to get those trailers for indies that no one speaks a word of all year long until all fo a sudden they're in the oscar race (can't say this is one of those, but it sure looks it). this one's a political thriller set in africa (not sure which country, but it sounded like south africa) which put me in the mind of the constant gardener a little (great company, considering that one made my top 5 last year). tim robbins is the only name, but this doesn't look like a film that needs them: A

The Last King of Scotland: this is another in the category i mentioned with catch a fire, but in this case i'm willing to go out on a limb. i'm calling it now, forrest whitaker will be oscar nominated for this movie. in it, he stars as the former ugandan dictator idi amin. can't say that i know much about the true story on which this film is based, but i definitely want to hear more now: A

School for Scoundrels: i've liked all of todd phillips' comedies so far (none enough to buy though), but i can't say that i'm too interested in this one. jon heder does nothing for me as a performer (though i did like his voice work in monster house), and while i like billy bob thorton, i'm not exactly running out to the theater to see him doing the same bad santa schtick for what seems like the umpteenth time. the supporting players look pretty solid (sara silverman appears twice and says nothing?!), but there weren't any big laughs from me, so this is looking like a pass. if it had been a winter/early spring release, it might've stood a better chance, but this is looking like an exceptionally strong fall this year: C
