Yes, he was. Only because he played in New York. Had he played harder he could have easily gotten more boards per game, he wasn't NEARLY the defensive monster people made him out to be for a decade. awesome in his prime but not even close to the best center in the league.

the answer i was looking for. he was a great player statistcally, but never came through in the clutch. great players put their team on their back and take them to victory. mj, isiah, hakeem, bird, magic.

it's all about the ewing theory. this theory says that not only the new york knicks, but the hoyas as well, played better when he was injured or missed extended periods of time.

Who can forget Ewing's missed finger roll from 2 feet at the buzzer against Indiana in 1994's eastern conference finals. Haha.

Ewing didn't lead his team to a title. Hakeen did.

Some of the greatest players EVER are overrated because they don't match up to the hype they got. Nobody is saying Ewing wasn't a damn good player.

what about to the finals? none (dont say 99)

94? we were a john starks boneheaded play away from the title from what i remember (i was only 8)

and the knicks have only won 2 championships in their history. so youre saying every player theyve ever had is overrated besides guys like willis reed?

You're kidding, right? Don't be an idiot. The fact that you guys think Ewing isn't overrated and can't formulate a reason why is showing YOUR bias. And for the record, I hate Kobe. And I loved Ewing.

Wow, so not the point. Who was rated as high as Ewing? Blackmon? Starks? Come on. Please try to put together something that makes sense. The point is that Ewing was considered to be an elite center in his day, some might have even called him the best. He wasn't.

anyone that played on the greatest team ever assembled...the dream team, is not overrated...well maybe Christian Laettner(or however you spell that)...and like someone said...50 all time greatest....in that case, i can say John Stockton was overrated, he didnt lead Utah anywhere...

1. Shaquille O'Neal
2. Hakeem (who the fuck says you can exclude him? That's bullshit.)
3. David Robinson (89-96)

There's a reason Patrick Ewing was only 1st team All-NBA ONE time in his entire career...there were better centers in the league.

Nobody ever said that Ewing was the greatest center ever..so I don't see how he's overrated. He was a good player, not a great one. That's basically it.

I really can't get through to you can I? EWING WAS A GREAT PLAYER. Nobody is arguing against this! Some great players in all sports were overrated. Reggie Jackson is the first one that comes to mind. Back to Ewing. 50 greatest of all time? Ok, maybe. But if anything, that's something that was VOTED on, basically only offering more reasoning as to how he's overrated. Does he belong on that list? Maybe yes, maybe no. That's another argument for another day. (actually we had a thread on that a few months ago).

You can't be serious about Stockton. He doesn't have a title, instead he was just the greatest passer of his or maybe ANY generation, an outstanding defensive player, and a serious scoring threat. The guy shot .574 in a season. As a GUARD. That's unheard of. His career average was .515. Insane.

JTrain12
08/06/06, 09:58 PM
last time i heard, great players are measured by the rings on their fingers...so he dont have shit...i never said stockton was overrated, but i can say he is, cause him or malone never got it done...

Haha, really riding this title thing, aren't we?

Well, let's see.

Both players had sharp statistical declines late in their career, YET:

David Robinson's career averages are higher/better in all of the following statistics:

Points.
Blocks.
Rebounds.
Assists.
Turnovers.
FG%.

Essentially every important statistical category for a center there is. Actually, the only real statistic Ewing had better was FT%... by .005.

NEXT.

I used to love the knicks and Patrick Ewing..I had a Ewing jersey..

I thought the guy was always the heart and soul of the knicks from 85-99 or so..When the Knicks were selling out everynight he was one of the causes. Once he got too old the knicks fell apart because they never built around a player. I dont watch the NBA anymore.

I just wish the guy won the nba title..and that fingeroll he missed was in 95..in 94 they made it to the nba finals and lost
