Can't believe that one day, two years ago, sitting in my room crying bleeding so much, but now it's all over, thanks to music, it makes me feel like I don't need anything else. Has anyone else had this feeling?

such an attention seeking place the wrist, I'm going to be honest. Funny story, I was play fighting with my dog the other day and she scratched my arm pretty bad that it looked like I'd been cutting myself, got a few lol's out of it.
Don't really want your entire life story no. We've all been through shit, I've been through some pretty heavy stuff but didn't instantly reach for a razor blade

Not sure if you're being sarcastic here haha if not, then really? the worst early teens do here is all turn into lebians (seriously, it's beyond a joke, all down to this series called Skins..it's meant to be a drama about college kids..except until that program came out I'd never met any college or university kids like them..oh and there's two lebsians in it)

I'm guessing 30H!3, Metro Station and maybe Cobra Starship....because there about as emo as can get, but they don't talk about cutting there wrists, they talk about more important things, like jesus and god and even buddah too!

And yeah, you seem like a complete attention seeking tool, if you hated yourself so much, you would have acctually tried o kill yourself, not leave marks on your wrists so that your bff could be all like "OMMGGZZ babezz rr u ok? hav u beeen luking at yo' pete wentz postaa fo' 2 long again?"
But back too the point , The Reasons and Plea From A Cat Named Virtute by The Weakerthans deffinlty saved my life, just makes me think "Why the fuck are you feeling sorry for yourself?" :-)

Actually, that was one of my rare moments of sincerity. Yes, depression, both clinical and subjective depression, is not uncommon among teens. There have been myriad studies that corroborate this claim. It's disconcerting.

You don't have to have a "fucked up childhood" (by conventional standards) to have depression. Also, depression, being, by medical definition, a chemical imbalance, is a physiological condition.
Ultimately, I don't think it's wise to apply personal experience as the norm and begin contrasting all others by ours.

Yes sorry, but to say listening to Insane Clown Posse and Aiden saved her life is somewhat of a stretch
If she has clinical depression I think it would have taken a little more than that. You are looking at this thread from a very realistic/caring/serious angle. Which the internet is not.

What compels someone to find meaning or merit in their life is a subjective experience. I'm not commenting on her specifically, but I can't deny what she says, I can only honor the experience, you dig? Whatever it is that music does to you, I would not attempt to negate that.
If she has clinical depression I think it would have taken a little more than that.
There's inherent flaws with the medical community. One of them is that it applies an narrow, compartmentalized view of mental "illness" in the name of objectivity. It's dangerous to assume what it does, what it can do, what it means to someone as if it's a universal experience and what one does to alleviate or naturalize or own what it is they feel.
You are looking at this thread from a very realistic/caring/serious angle. Which the internet is not.
You're right. I should have made a bunch of really clever and novel jokes about this kid. I don't care if she's a troll or not. I don't care about her, frankly. Conversely, it's incredibly disconcerting to find everyone commenting on a condition like this as if there's a universal way to gauge certain life experiences.

People are fucked up. It doesnt matter what age you are, no one has any idea what another person goes through. Just because some people handle their pain in different ways than others doesn't mean that it's not a valid reason to cut. And yeah, the wrists might be an attention grabbing spot, but maybe it's their way of seeking help without actually asking for it. People are so fucking ignorant sometimes. This topic really pisses me off because my best friend used to cut and tried to kill herself. Her life is so messed up and it pisses me off when people try to just blow it off and be like "just see a therapist" or "its not that bad, suck it up"
Anyway, I haven't been in pain to the point of hurting myself, but music has saved my life. Not so much physically, but like psychologically, definitely. I don't know where I'd be without it.

Andrea, you're going to compare one line of logic to another, and if you go where I think you're going...okay, you know what, I'll go there. When you're a teen, yes, you're much more susceptible to the institutions and their socializing properties. There's thousands of soc studies that corroborate that. However, in this instance, if the kid doesn't like Emocore or whatever, then that doesn't make him ignorant unless he's condemning a genre he knows nothing about. If he actually didn't know of any of those bands, then yes, he's ignorant. If he did, he's not, he just knows what he likes. I didn't like Bob Dylan when I was 15. I knew of most of his work. Did that make me ignorant? No. I just didn't like him then. I do now (though much less than, say, a couple years ago). Taste doesn't "refine" with age. It just changes.
I know what you're trying to do, and good, call me on my shit if you perceive I have been hypocritical, but in this instance, it's apples and oranges and I'm right, because I'm awesome.

See, then I agree, that's ignorant, but I don't think that has anything to do with age, per se. I've never been one to say taste refines with age. It you didn't imply that, then my apologies, but that's bullshit, in by my estimation. Taste is, well, taste.

I however tried to delve into stuff that happened before my time and appreciate what inspires some of the new stuff I like. The old stuff is much better anyway. But I see what you mean
Weelll, yeah I guess I see where you're coming from, but my friggin age doesn't necessarily show how intelligent I am about music... Sooo, all I've ever heard that's called "emo" actually IS shit like My Chemical Romance, but I have "delved", and I'm just not really into it... It's ok, just not for me. Like grunge. To me? ick. Anyways..
Ohhh trust me, I am aware most of the new stuff is shit now anyways! Hence the weird looks I get when my friend's parents recommend music and I tend to like it...
And I do delve into the older artists. Accuse me of anything but not knowing about musical roots and legends and such. Some of my favorite artists of all time are The Cure, Miles Davis (Kind of Blue), David Bowie, The Ramones occasionally, Bob Dylan, some Hendrix, Cocteau Twins, Pink Floyd, etc. I don't even just listen to singles, I listen to entire albums, because I like to know what I'm talking about when it comes to music ... And I discovered I liked them because I used to like more modern bands, and looked up interviews or blogs or whatever to see who inspired them.
So I could see where you're coming from, but just because I'm 15 doesn't mean that I simply must suck at life because I wasn't at Woodstock or I didn't see the premiere of the Thriller music video or whatever, but hey, it's not like I got to choose when I was conceived...

Nah, you are right. I just didn't take kindly to the generalizations, i guess, taking into account my own age as well.

OK yeah, you're right there. And people who have been alive longer than 12 seconds would know about the artists, but maybe not how the artists work, or how and why music changes, or more extensively about the music and what it means and why. I'm not claiming to be an expert, or even anything close to that. If I were, I would have had to have lived through everything or be in college with a music major. I'm just saying that I want to know, and hopefully might know, more than the average 15 year old. Which was the point I was trying to prove with that guy jabbing at my age vs. how much I know about music...

Because the lack of musical knowledge (or knowledge of almost anything, really) in the people I know in my generation depresses the hell out of me haha. What's wrong with wanting to know about things just because I can? I kinda want to prove to myself that I can learn for myself and not only for school or my parents or anything. Maybe that's a bit selfish, but I like knowing things anyways. Plus, I am a lazy person. If I was only interested in knowing it to know it, I wouldn't anyways because I need to really love it, so of course it's "an organic extension of intellectual curiosity", to use your words. I fucking adore music, it's a lot of what I think and care about.

Why? Who cares? Also, how do you know what your generation knows? Do you understand how absurd that sounds?
What's wrong with wanting to know about things just because I can?
Why are you asking me that? That isn't at all what I said. Why do you want to learn things just because other people your age don't know them?
I kinda want to prove to myself that I can learn for myself
You're not learning for yourself. You said yourself that you wanted to learn stuff the average (and what does the average 15 year old know? Tell me. You can't.) 15 year old doesn't know, which is absurd and limiting and really, anti-knowledge. Do you actually want to know something, anything, or do you just want to imperialistically gather up information, make it yours and lord it over others your age as some sort of proof that you're above them? Why not, as I mentioned before, organically gravitate toward things that catch your fancy? What you're talking about doesn't sound knowledgeable at all, actually.

15 year old girls who think they know everything about music because they listen to classic rock and not radio pop piss me off more than the kids who just stick to what they know. But I guess that's just me. People's attitudes toward music tend to piss me off, and I know that's wrong but it happens. It's the same thing as the kid who discovers the Grateful Dead and suddenly thinks he's the height of cool for not listening to rap anymore.

It's not so much I care about the people's opinions, I just find it ironic when people talk shit on others for liking "shitty" music, when they just like the most mainstream alternative rock groups and play it safe liking things like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Sublime, etc. It's the thought that these people feel like they are somehow above the radio pop listener, even though they like the things that millions of other people do. It's not the opinions, it's their sense of entitlement and the fact that they think they are on the cutting edge of music, when they are as generic as white bread. /rant.

In her defense, 90's emo isn't a very broadly covered genre - not a whole lot of people know about it. The only reason I do is because of some iTunes Essentials collection, and I honestly don't know if I would found the older stuff otherwise.
I do, however, prefer newer music for some reason. But it doesn't mean I don't appreciate the older stuff. I will say though that Christie Front Drive is one of my favorite bands.

See, then I agree, that's ignorant, but I don't think that has anything to do with age, per se. I've never been one to say taste refines with age. It you didn't imply that, then my apologies, but that's bullshit, in by my estimation. Taste is, well, taste.
My taste has nothing to do with my age. I am only 20. I missed out on a lot of good stuff while it happened, but happen to enjoy a lot of older things immensely now. Doesn't matter what age you are until you make a blanket statement as a young kid writing off a genre you don't know shit about. Then it's ignorant douche baggery.

Neh, no matter what age you are, if you make a blanket statement writing off a genre you don't know shit about it would be instant douche baggery.

Yeah throwing out the most popular classic rock acts doesn't do much but make you look more ignorant...I wasn't around for the emo movement either. Doesn't make it any less awesome. Second I agree that grunge is a bore fest. Third, The Ramones are garbage, and it was only cool to like them my freshman year of high school since everyone had a shirt. And The Cure? Yeah pretty sure a lot of people have labeled them as emo. You don't have to like older acts just because they are old. But respecting a genre as a whole instead of writing it off cause people tagged it emo is fucking stupid

Did you see that Intervention rip off on TLC where the girl had the abusive dad (and she was raped every night maybe by him, I'm not too sure) so the rest of the family went on the run and then the mom came out to the girl by having her girlfriend take her to starbucks and tell her that the girl's mom was a lesbian, which only made the girl resentful and drove her away from her mom and the girlfriend. So when the mom wanted to break up with the girlfriend she used the daughter's resentment as an excuse and said that they needed some distance and the girlfriend killed herself in their living room by doing the whole gun in the mouth thing in front of the mom and then the girl's sister had to pick her up from school (or a friend's house) and tell her that they were on the way to the mental hospital because the mom had a break down because of it all.
I can assume this isnt as interesting.

such an attention seeking place the wrist, I'm going to be honest.

The "young kid" part means nothing. Ignorance is ignorance. Making said statement at 20 is as ignorant as making it at 15. I don't know why you continually use her age in this.

there are many reason as to why this kind of stuff is an act. she has the typical, "all my friends want to kill themselves just like me" thing going in full force. she has a desire to be dark and "emo" as she puts it, and then after all that says her nickname is darka and that she is pretty awesome. shes crying out all right. crying out for atttention.

Can't believe that one day, two years ago, sitting in my room crying bleeding so much, but now it's all over, thanks to music, it makes me feel like I don't need anything else. Has anyone else had this feeling?
