NOT Underoath vs. NOFX

Let me express how frustrating it is to read all of the stupid things people are saying about this so-called "rivalry" between NOFX and Underoath. There ISN'T ONE!

NOFX come from the school of punk music that says it needs to be offensive and in your face in order to be effective. In many ways, NOFX defined the genre that is today called punk rock. They are old school in comparison to Underoath, who I would definitely not call a punk band in any sense of the word. However, I'm not here to define what punk is, because that's a terrible argument that will never rest.
The thing is, everyone has their own idea of what punk is, and thats why so many of us are so passionate about it. Fat Mike has a sense of humor and perspective that doesn't always work so well on a group of people who are as equally as passionate about their music's purpose and message. NOFX wants to spark change by aiming at Bush, Underoath want to spark change by touching people and sharing their beliefs. Fat Mike challeneged their beliefs, just as they should be able to defend themselves. However there comes a time when too much ridicule can make a person or group of people question whether they are perhaps out of their element. This may or may not have happened during the warped tour experience for Underoath.

I just want to say I'm sorry for typing so much, but i've been reading all of thes threads about the issue here and I felt I needed to say my piece. Fell free to tear me apart as I'm sure will happen. Happy Hunting.

And for humor's sake, I saw a clip of some show on Fuse in which Fat Mike interrupted the warped tour bible study in order to stir up the people attending, at which time El Hefe from NOFX walked in and Aaron from Underoath asked who he was. I laughed. How can you make it on the warped tour and not at least know members of one of the seminal punk bands still in existence? oh well, Define the Great Line kicks anything NOFX has put out since 2000 right in the pants.

I mean, I listened to Never Trust a Hippy, and while I enjoyed it, I really think I liked Define the Great Line better. But I just want to be clear that I never once said Underoath is better than NOFX. I just can't make statements like that

underoath is def. a better band. nofx's music is feeble minded and simple. i dont hate them or anything and im not a huge UO fan either, but nofx is anything but insightful. these are also 2 very different bands and people will like them for different reasons.

i dont know about you but i hit puberty awhile back, if you havent hit puberty by 18 then im guessing you still haven't. i can't even make out any lyrics on the new Underoath but on chasing safety the lyrics werent too bad, slightly cliche, but not as predictable and dim-witted as ive seen from NOFX. Geogre Bush sucks, War is fucked up, argg argg argg, etc. but hey there buddy, when you are able to count and recognize numbers up to 18, then come back and reply.

btw, i respect nofx, they have been very influential, i just dont like their music.

it's not a "real" genre per se, but i think it fits because they're obviously hardcore influenced but they're also pop-rock bands.

ive already said that UO writes cliche lyrics, at least on theyre only chasing safety. i dont know what the hell the lyrics are on the new one. the reason i think UO is better is not the lyrics. i like the way the music sounds better, NOFX's music and lyrics are as basic as it gets, punk. NOFX is a much more simple band whether you'd like to admit it or not. btw, i like politics, i just dont like listening to people sing about them that are hardly educated in the area. and i dont give a shit what you say about UO, i dont even like the band.

Everything you say about NOFX applies to Underoath. The chord progressions on They're Only Chasing Safety aren't that amazing and are pretty generic. The new cd isn't much better. and their older stuff was fairly generic metalcore with some keyboard thrown in. They're not amazingly talented at their instruments, which is why it's stupid that you continue to respond.

Couple that with Fat Mike, whom other posters who have told you, basically invented punk rock bass playing.

Most importantly, we're talking about punk music...it's not the most complicated form of music on the planet. To say you a punk band isn't good because they're not complicated is incredibly stupid. It's not merely a matter of opinion when you start criticizing bands for doing things other bands you're promoting do. that's just poor judgement.

What you're doing is just like saying "i fucking hate ap.net", but posting here all the time. Nothing you say holds any merit because it both applies to the band you're criticizing as well as the band you're kind of promoting.

praising UO. did i not make it clear i dont like them??? and that i only think they are a better band and not my favorite band??? its my opinion dont get all upset over it. people will have opinons on the AP forums, are you going to bitch everytime someone says something negative about a band you like. there is a handful of punk music i do like, NOFX's lyrics are just bad though. so, i realized something today which is very disapointing. Seeing as im a fan of underoath i saught out to defend them. And soon realized their lyrics are very weak. here is the best I can find, It's pretty good i think. Couldn't say if it's better than any NoFx though.
