Which do you prefer?
I preferentially use Last.fm because i've had a membership since high school, however, my friends have started using Pandora, which i find inferior.
Please state why you use one over the other with examples.
Furthermore, which do you feel provides better suggestions for music you would enjoy?

I've never really used Last.fm's radio thing and I rarely use Pandora anymore. And they just started using Pandora?

I already do, i can't convince them that pandora is fucking bull shit.
It seems like everyone is using Pandora these days. I don't know what that is about. I've had a Last.fm account for nearly four years now. I rarely use the online radio service, though.

I've never used pandora, but I enjoy last.fm radio service because it plays me things based precisely off of what I listen too most accurately out of any other online music service I've ever tried. I listen to last.fm radio if I don't feel like going through all my music to pick something to listen to or if I simply don't know what to listen to at all.

Everyone uses Pandora these days. I don't really get it. I love finding out about music in different ways, like on this website or through word-of-mouth. I think Pandora is an ambitious effort - the whole music genome project, trying to categorize and link all types of music...but that's extremely difficult and although they're doing a pretty good job of it, it's just not for me. I don't use last.fm either; I usually just play my own iTunes

Pandora blows. It's impossible to find new music on it because I already know every damn band they play for me.

Pandora is pretty much Last.fm with a fraction of the features. Seriously, just go on Last.fm and play a band's radio station. Bam, Pandora. Once you start getting into scrobbling, events, friends, etc there's just no competition.

I like Last.fm more, but most of my computer time is at work, and the site is blocked, but for some reason Pandora isn't, so I use Pandora more frequently but only for that reason.

i've had a last.fm account since high school, but i use pandora................i'm not sure why... i guess it's because i'm just familiar with it. maybe i'll check out last.fm more often.
on a side note, i was more of an imeem user. imeem was awesome. i used to use that a lot.
The only reason I ever use Pandora instead of Lastfm is when I'm at school and that's because, despite being on an education line, I have the slowest streaming ever and Lastfm radio doesn't work, whereas Pandora does. But Lastfm is still 10 million times better.

i have a pandora one account and have pretty much ignored last.fm except for scrobbling until this point, but pandora's blocked at work, and i recently (as in 5 minutes ago) discovered that last.fm is not. so looks like i'll be switching teams. :-(

last.fm radio is awful.
It really is. On Last.fm, I usually only hear about the same 6 artists when I listen. Then again, Pandora isn't much better to that degree because I always get the same songs played.

I'm not a fan of Last.fm's radio. Pandora's is much better if I have a big variety of music that I want to listen to.

that's how it works. do you really have any clue about an artist after 1 listen? i don't think so. their system reflects this.

Every day it recommends me Plastic Beach. Bugs me since I already own it and have listened to it. And I understand when it recs something barely listened to but recently listened to should not do that

I just tried this, and it kept cutting off the song after like 30 seconds and redirecting me to a homepage or something.

You logged in, right? Maybe log out and back in. The only problem I ever have with it is that when I stay logged in from a previous session it doesn't recognize me, so I have to log out and back in.

every time it redirected me to the homepage like thing I logged in again. I'll close the tab, try it again and see what happens I guess.
edit: up found the problem. I have the password saved on my computer, so I guess I got it wrong the first time and so it's redirecting me was just it's way of saying "hey you messed it up" hahah.

Last.fm is much more than just a radio site. The radio portion is only a small fraction of its features. It's easier to find a radio station for a band, you can go to any profile and start the band's radio station. Also last.fm connects to your itunes so it better knows what music you like and can better recommend music for you. It also has a much wider variety of music on it, last.fm is better by a mile.

Im not a huge fan of Pandora, but its pretty cool. It linked me to a similar artist to the one I was playing, and gave reasons why the two were similar. Cool stuff

I prefer last.fm mainly because I like how it tracks what I listen to via scrobbling. I've never actually tried the radio feature on it because I prefer knowing what I'm listening to. I've been a big fan of shuffling, I usually pick an album and listen to it start to finish.

I don't need "radio", so Pandora is virtually useless to me. I do use and love Last.fm for it's scrobbling features, though. It's such a simple idea but it's really cool to visually see how much you listen to something.
I do, however, use Lala on occasion. That's a fantastic system if you want to get a taste of an album before you go out and purchase it (besides illegally downloading something, obviously)

Pandora is way to corporate. They don't let very many REAL indie bands on there website. They are snobs. Last.fm is cooler.
