View Full Version : The Wall of Shame: Spammiest Self-Promotion Messages Ever

The only reason I have a Myspace now is to amuse myself with the incredibly ridiculous amount of "band spam" I get. Some of it is just really absurd.

ITT: Post your favorite/least favorite/weirdest/most annoying spam self-promotion message you received from a band.

Maybe we can shame this practice out of existence. I'm all for bands promoting themselves, but some of this comes off as cocky and desperate.

Exhibit A
Band: Amleah
Site: Purevolume
Message:
Let's get one thing straight, Amleah is amazing. If you agree PLEASE buy The Firefly Design from iTunes and tell all your friends. You're our only hope. ~kiss~ Amleah

lolwut

Exhibit B
Band: COLERA MORBUS
Site: Myspace
Message:
AGUANTE CHILE!!!!! AGUANTE CURICO!!!!

(location: chile)

I never created a myspace account and the example above is one of the main reasons (the other being Myspace sucks in general). Too bad all those AP spam threads about Uggbootsforlife.com or whatever got deleted.

I like the messages that are like: "If you like Slayer, then you will like us!"

-_-

I think they search for keywords or something. You can forget about posting a comment on any band's page EVER unless you want to get a flood of:

"LIKE BAND X,Y,Z?? WE ARE REAL COOL YOU WILL LOVE US!!! CHECK US OUT DUDES ADD US AND THEN BOOK US YEA WE'RE REALLY PROUD OF WHAT WE DO LIVING THE DREAM"

Ha ha, well said.

I miss the good ol days when bands got together to make music, not advertise. Even the "Underground" punk bands these days advertise up the butt on the space.

I am happy I deleted both myspace and facebook accounts.

Believe it or not, I haven't received any PM spam from here so far.
Reading threads in the music forum though...

My band has had several bands leave auto-playing media players full of their garbage music in our comments. Talk about obnoxious.

I had a band leave a comment on my Myspace that read, "I stabbed my floor and it didn't cry."

I think the worst is when they would comment with an embeded automatically-playing music player filled with crappy tunes and spam my comments with them.

That's probably pretty effective at making people click on your link to see what the hell you're about. I might have to steal that one.

I never used the old thread but I'd definitely use this one if it gets stickied. Nice job.

That's the worst.
Especially since our player doesn't automatically start, so people thought their shit was us.

thanks for your maturity guys. I know you spent a lot of time copying and pasting that terribly written message

WTF Maturity is? having hair in the face? Nahhh

A self-professed "psico-experimental ambient" band called BM.

Just to see how this would work, I left comments that said "I stabbed my floor and it didn't bleed" on a few popular bands' profiles. Seems to be generating a bit of traffic, actually! And we're even thinking of using it for a song title.

But... but shouldn't I send it to the band who spammed you?
