The following is a mini interview of generic questions that we posed to all bands that wanted to answer:
Lost Apparitions
www.myspace.com/lostapparitions
1. How did you get your band name?
A lot of the members of this band have interest in things relating to the occult, supernatural, end of world theories, pschedelics, ect. A lot of the topics in our lyrics are about weird shit like possession (our song Do It Yourself Exorcism), ghosts keeping you company when trying to fall asleep(Hey Zeus), Astral Traveling or out of body experiences (The Circadian Flight), so the name Lost Apparitions gives you an idea of what to expect lyrically on some level.
2. How did this band get started?
Good friends with good ears, drinking good beers holding good guitars creating good vibes
3. What bands are you influenced by?
We are influenced by anything and everything that we view as forward thinking. Some of these bands could include anyone from The Mars Volta, The Fall Of Troy, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Led Zeppelin, Rush, to John Fahey(bluegrass). I personally am a pretty big fan of this guy that goes by the name of Lichens. Its just this one guy with a looper who writes really ambient, spiritual sounding music. He was also in a band called 90 Day Men that broke up like 5 years ago that I would highly recommend.
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would it be and why?
Any of the bands listed above. Because I would say that at any of these bands concerts a high percentage of the crowd is probably fairly open minded and would enjoy our music.
5. If you were a furry, what animal would you be? Why that animal?
a humpback whale, because they have better communication skills than humans.
6. Why should people listen to your band?
I can't tell you why you should listen to our band, but I can tell you why you should listen to our new cd.Seeking inspiration and hoping to discover the hidden truths of life, my bandmates and I decided to fast and we secluded ourselves to living in a cave. After 29 days in almost total darkness, an angel appeared to us and dictated our new cd to us. He said the cd would be called "Old Friends On New Planets", and that it would be released on "May 27, 2010". He used our bodys as vehicles for him to create the music he said "needed to be made."
7. If you were chosen to be in Guitar Hero/Rock Band, what song would you want in the game? How hard do you think it would be to five-star on expert?
Probably our song Hey Zues, or our song Multiplication is vexation. Our song Hey Zues is super flashy and fun and guitar driven so it would be fun. I think it would be pretty damn hard on expert. Otherwise our song Multiplication is Vexation because its about a 10 minute long song with a really jammy vibe, guitar solos, and a bunch of trippy effects.
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
Probably our good friend Tim Hanten who passed away a little over a year ago. He sacrificed everything for his music, from being essentially disowned by his parents, to living on the streets, everyday the only thing he cared about were his friends and his music. He was a huge inspiration to us and many other people, especially in the music scene in Dubuque IA.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
I would make the millions of bands that are As I Lay Dying clones not exist.
10. Memorable tour experience?
We played at this place called "The Cesspool Castle" in Missouri. It was this dude named Gene who owned the house and he had all this cats. All over the house there were signs saying not to let the cats out. Gene had to get up early that morning and left the house to ourselves. Just as we were about to leave our old bassist, Phil, left the door open and a cat got out. The cat went in the sewer on one side of the street, and as we were panicking trying to figure out what to do, about 20 minutes later it came out of the sewer on the other side of the street. I ran really fast and caught the fucker and put it inside.
11. What does AP.net mean to you?
Not much.
12. What is your favorite song to play?
Whatever new song I'm working on
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
Virgin Islands
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
Ina Gadda Da Vita by Iron Butterfly, Long Cool Woman by the Hollies, any Beatles music
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
Bring people back to life.
16. Do you feel that your band has "made it"?
Yes.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
Half of the members of this band should be dead. Alex and Alan both survived accidents with about a 10% survival rate in the last year and a half. Alex was in a horrible 90 mph car accident, and Alan had a huge chunk of glass from a broken window sever an artery and 4 tendons in his arm.
18. What's your favorite holiday?
Groundhogs day.
19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Eat food or watch pretty girls eat food.
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
Our singer is poor and will eat lady bugs for about $5 a pop .
