As of now I am in my first year of college (community college) and planning on majoring in teaching, but the whole time I have had doubts as I feel there is something better out there for me. I love music. It's a huge part of my life and I seem to have a grasp for wanting to do something with it but I need to win my parents approval for it since they are paying for my college. I recently heard of someone going into Music Business. I was wondering what type of jobs are involved with it, the income, and how in demand the field is. If anyone has any information about it that would help me, I would appreciate it.

It's such a broad major. You could be anything from a tour manager to working for a record company or even being an agent. The possibilities are endless and music industry isn't leaving anytime soon.

I'm planning on going into the music business. However, my school doesn't have a program for that, so I'm doing business management so I can get into the business while still having the regular business degree to back it up.

lots of jobs, A&R, productions, live, booking, management, sales, advertising. Business is a bussiness. All business is the same it's the trade and how u apply it. I think that maybe you should start thinking outside the box more, plenty of opportunities in the music biz, just gotta be creative and then stick to ur guns, hollaaaa ~Oh Romeo!

in case you could use a differing perspective, i wanted to do music business for awhile until i realized it's not at all different from regular business. you treat the product the same -- YOUR opinion of it doesn't matter, what matters is how many people like the product and how well it sells. so you have to support anything that works well in the market, regardless whether you hate it. that would take all the passion out of music for me and really cheapen the value of my involvement with it.

That's why I don't think I can be in it. Making music is for me. Selling music is not. It makes me feel like shit 99% of the time

You don't necessarily need to major in Music Business to get into it. You can major in Business and get into the music industry. I had a professor who works for ASCAP and he said that the majority of the people that work with him don't have a music degree. So, you don't have to major in Music Business to get into it.

Music Business is hard. But it's huge, and as long as people are listening to music, there will be always something to do.

The jobs range from PR, Anr, management, art and design, promotion, booking, press etc - literally hundreds of different roles! If you have an interest you are bound to find something in the music industry which you will like.

If I were you I'd stay with education. The music industry is dying. At this rate, you are probably better off at starting your own label rather than trying to work for another one. The chances of success are probably equal there.

Anyway, I respect anyone who wants to be a teacher. Easily one of the most important jobs in our country, and you can get great benefits.
