Just wondering if anyone else on here has an interest in this, or knows what you have to take to be an archeologist or anything.

i'm majoring in zoology but i'm thinking about taking some anthropology papers sometime in my 2nd year. this stuff really interests me but at the end of the day i'm more interested in interacting with what's alive & kicking, not what's 6 feet under. it would be a fascinating career choice though

I did Archaelology for a year in college, and i got an E.
I didn't enjoy it. Dendro Chronology sucks.

It is a fascinating field, but I've heard it is very competitive. So, I just take some classes as electives.

I graduated with a BA in anthropology and now am in grad school for the same.
Archaeology is a sub field of anthropology, so your best bet is to major in that. some schools offer classical archaeology, but that tends to be an interdisciplinary major based on greco-roman studies and is more concerned with the "classical" society than prehistoric. there is digging involved, but also analysis, interpretation and other branches of it, including urban.
sample it first, because it is competitive and highly specialized, so its no walk in the park to get funding and permits to dig. but if you're really into cataloguing and ancient history (you do need to memorize dates and locations of dig sites beyond olduvai and turkana, but you do learn that the Yavin 4 ruins were in Tikal, which is cool) the like, then it might just be for you (ive done field schools, and they are a riot, srsly).

I used to want to be one pretty badly...Still kinda do, but its one of those things that takes alot of knowledge to do, and then once your doing it it takes forever to get to your reward. or to make a discovery or pretty much to do anything. Its avery frustruating feild.

youd be shocked to find out, that with a major in anthro, you might find other parts of the discipline more fascinating.
