What kind of lyrics are good for pop/punk bands?
Mymelodies are catchy but the words tend to be "bigger" but are usually strong and meaningful.
Most bands in the genre usually stickto short words and write about girls/partying etc.
Thoughts?
Do what you want to do, who cares what other bands are doing?

i believe the best way of writing something great, is not to try to find out what is best fitting with the genre you are playing, but what is best fitting with you.
There might be 10.000 bands playing punk pop out there, and there will be some that just mocks other bands style (blink or green day clones, for example) or others that just "learn the lesson" from those bands that they love, but put their own personality in what they do. Its just a matter of personality, and you'll add a value to your music ;-)

yeah expecially over the past 3-5- years, all pop-punk bands (usually the ones i call the "myspace bands") basiclly just copy eatchother, i bet with not even knowing in my opinion. i bet they see one band, they think they can do that/do better than that. and subconciously sound like them. its hard for a "pop-punk" band to get big anymore. ya know like in the early 2000's they totally dominated the mainstream music scene (yellowcard...and ll thoes one hit wonders, ect lol). now that myspace and the internet ,ect is so "needed" if you will for musicians nowadays, its hard to be "original". or to get away with saying their original, ya know. thats why i try not a judge bands so much anymore, ya know. whatever sounds good to me is what sounds good to me. it doesnt matter if it sounds just like mayday parade/all time low/BLG/we the kings/FTSK, ect.
i think lyricly bands are getting better. at least thinking better about em lol. maybe not accomplishing it, not its in mind and you can hear it. i am one fo thoes people that is a sucker for a good pop-punk FTSK-esce dance-ish song now and then.. but my lord. do they ALL gotta be influenced by that lol. well like i said, maybe they dont notice... and you can usually tell when they do and i feel like thoes are he bands that dont go anywhere.. as much as i cant beleive it i feel like people are getting smarted about bands and music in general thanks to the internet. they can pick out the "copy cats" really well, and know "fake" shit, ect.
yeah i rambled, so what... lol
