View Full Version : Which band has regressed the most?

I know TBS is old again...but up until now which one?

i don't think you know what you're asking. But an example would be Brand New putting out a simple pop-punk record, as that would be the opposite of progression for them.
But i feel like you simply want to know which band made albums that were not as good as its predecessors.

AAR have never been very good either imo

I'd like to think AAR regressed the most, but I really think they just developed into what they were always trying to be from the start.

the only real choices here are TBS or Used...these are the two traditional/classic bands when discussing which band is getting worse with each release.
I mean come on..AAR is still the same pop rock music since their inception and RJA/Saosin just blow chunks anyhoo.

Your opinion is your opinion, but most people would disagree with that.
I impulse-voted AAR, but I regret that decision, it's clearly the Used. RJA had a decent debut and a shit follow up, Saosin just kind of took no risks on ISOSG, and I'm a fan of all TBS. The Used got worse and worse with every album till they got to the point of Artwork, which is bland, utter trash in my eyes.

TBS for sure, New Again didn't have one song I enjoyed.
I didn't even like Louder Now, although I can see how most people would. Spin being the one listenable song for me.
TAYF and WYWB were both genius.
John Nolan coming back is the best news I've heard since the Blink reunion (we all remember those Oscars and how good it made us feel, and how pissed the people are who missed the tour and as of yet have not felt any benefit from their return)
Used is a close second. But I figured they would get bad as I watched it happen with each album. TBS being awful was a tragic surprise.
And I still love AAR. I mean Mona Lisa and Another Heart Calls were enough to win me over.

Definitely. S/T is one of my all-time favorite albums and I can't stomach to listen to either of their last 2. They get my vote just because of how high they fell from.
I think everyone on here has defintely regressed. TBS a whole lot but I think The Used was better than TAYF and I don't think New Again was as bad as LFTL or Artwork. And Louder Now wasn't like disgusting.

Yeah honestly, it's between The Used and Saosin, with The Used pulling ahead by a bit, in terms of regression. That's only because The Used have come out with 2 disappointing CDs (I really liked ILAD), while Saosin have only had one disappointing release up to date.

Damn sir. Thank you for correcting me.
I remember we had to watch it in my Video Productions class (the grammy's) and I just kinda figured with a video productions class we would watch the Oscars.
I was high my whole senior year so I get confused.

I was so upset with both of these CDs (for the Used, Artwork was better but it wasn't great). Saosin...I just don't know what they were thinking.
The Used has gotten progressively worse every album but they're still yet to release anything nearly as disappointing as the shit stain that was ISOSG.

I went with all american rejects just because I felt like they had the most potential to be a good rock band for the next decade after move along, but they kind of took a step back with their last album. All of the other bands have always appealed to 15 year olds so its kind of hard to regress when you've always been screaming about how girls don't like you.

it was a toss up for me, between AAR and TBS, i picked TBS
For me, TBS just made weaker albums, but The Used had such a strong debut and in my opinion, made a bad second album and followed it up with some embarrassingly awful albums after. I give Saosin a little leeway on their crappiness cause of the vocalist change.

I won't go into a long ass rant about why he is, but every live video, he brings the overall tone down with his bad singing. I've seen numerous videos where, Beau, Justin and Chris look embarrassed afterwards and on one ocassion even said it was terrible. Their personalities don't seem to mix well at all as Cove is a scenester. Not to say the rest of the band is innocent in their terrible second LP, but his bad singing/lyrics does have some anchorage. I'm not saying you're wrong though. Just my opinion

I'll agree live, he's god awful. I was just talking about recorded stuff, where I think the biggest drop comes from the music. No matter who was singing on the newest record, the music would have still been terrible. Cove's melodies, lyrics and singing are awful on ISOSG but the s/t shows that the band can be good with Cove.

I couldn't really say I 100% like the s/t, some of the stuff was really good but the rest was god awful to me, I suppose it comes down to preference. I don't think Cove brings anything redeemable creatively, recorded or live. Yeah , on ISOSG the music was pretty bland too.

I loved it, it was no TTN but I thought the whole thing was great. I think Cove's vocals on that record were perfect, it's a shame he couldn't pull it off live and now it seems he can't even do it on record. I do think the band could do better with some one else, but they'd have to commit to making better music themselves first.

AAR have progressed alot in my opinion, I also think TBS keeps their sound fresh for each album they've released. RJA is/ always has been pure shit and Saosin's first full length release was great, but the other releases were soooo damn weak to me. I'm going with Saosin.

AAR. I used to love them now they're just plain awful
I'd say The Used.
Their self-titled and In Love and Death were both very good, then it started rolling downhill.
I don't think you can say RJA regressed, they only had two albums, and I thought both were very good, even with the two different styles.

Saosin doesn't. Even if it did, it's about the biggest drop and TRJA was never exactly good to begin with.

Saosin's latest disappointed me the most, but it has to be the Used. They started out huge. They had solid albums (though none I particularly cared for) and were the most popular of all these bands, at least in Australia. Their music worsened and the new album didn't have a single song even played in Australia by the music channels that used to hold two-hour specials on them. RJA and AAR were never very good to me.

i sort of chuckle at all the people going crazy over how Saosin has "gotten worse". Anthony Green wasnt in the band long, and they only came out with translating the name which is decent, but it was just an EP. Saosin Ep and Saosin the LP are pretty much the same thing. It was decent but clearly different without Green, in essence, it was a new band and the old band really didnt do anything astounding. And their new record wasn't god awful, it was just an average cd that had nothing special on it. To complain and go crazy about Anthony Green is Saosin is a waste of time because they only came out with 5 songs. How can you regress from 5 songs?

I'm not one of those people that think AG is Saosin at all, although I do think they made their best music with him, but the thing that makes it my favourite has nothing to do with Anthony, it's just that I think the music's better. I actually preferred Cove's vocals on the self titled, which I also loved. But I do think the new record is god awful, I like three songs on it, and not very much. So yeah, I'd say that's a pretty big drop.

Not counting The Used or Soasin (because I haven't heard their latest couple CDs to compare), I voted RJA. All-American Rejects have been relatively untalented since the beginning and TBS has just suffered from having a musical chairs of a line-up. RJA have started off strong (and by strong i mean most of Don't you fake it but their newest release sounds like uninspired, generic radio rock.

I humbly disagree. If you initially have 5 good songs, then you have the potential to be a decent band and put out quality records. With five songs you aren't even established yet as a band.

Same with RJA.
